Great to see the crew treat the Huey in a way that it might live on for the generations to come. It appears some people in the comments don't understand that a warbird doesn't deserve to be abused instead of being preserved.

I'm a former UH1 MTP...looks like they have some newer avionics on board... my guess is a GPS of some sort as we didn't have them in the late 80's....wonderful video... I love watching all the old steps from the check list... brings back some awesome memories... thank you... :)

Sure looks like they used the old Army checklist for starting a UH-1. We cut way back on the amount of time it took to get the bird up and ready quickly, and just as safely. Not sure why they still spent that much time in the startup procedure. Yup, I have over 4000 hours in a Huey most as an IP. But, still fun to watch them crank up......a beautiful helicopter to fly...thanks guys

The people that flew those machines in Vietnam were incredibly brave. Landing in small clearings in the jungle while receiving fire from all sides, and sitting there waiting for troops to load/unload would have been a frightening experience. I recommend reading 'Chickenhawk' by Robert Mason about his experiences in Vietnam. It's quite an eye opener.
@Jammoko
@Jammoko 4 жыл бұрын
Yup, Rob Mason's book is one of the best of the many books about Helicopter pilots in Vietnam... he really goes into the details about the physics involved in making a helicopter fly and his training and subsequent tour. For those that want to get a small taste of flying a virtual Huey go to... www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/helicopters/huey/ Beware though... you will need a pretty tricked out PC to run the simulator software and prefrably some quality hardware to replicate the controls i.e. cyclic, collector and anti-torque pedals. If you have never flown a rotary before... its a pretty steep learning curve even in this DCS simulator. As they say... "people fly fixed wing planes, pilots fly helicopters!" :)

All these people with their negative and criticizing comments are idiots! I'm sure you all have lots of REAL LIFE helicopter seat time, huh? Un-damned-likely. DCS doesn't count! Look, read the description! It is the only Huey in the UK that was IN Vietnam. She is a museum piece, not a combat bird anymore. They spent tons of time and money to get her to the gorgeous like new shape she is in! Do you HONESTLY think that they're going to just kick the tires and light the fires?? Of course not... I am a Flight Engineer on the ONLY B-24J that can still fly. There are 2 B-24's flying, ours and the B-24A (Doesn't have a bomb bay, was designed for personnel and cargo use). We treat her like a fragile egg. Not because she isn't tough but because if you bend it, there are no do-overs. So go back to your flight simulators and shut up or pay the money and get some actual rotary wing seat time. I have and it is the best money I ever spent!

Mike, where did this flight take place? I have been waiting for an old Huey that was in my unit to be put back into flight condition. She is in New Zealand and was purchased for thistle dusting. Fond memories of her because she decided to have a catastrophic engine failure at 600 feet with 5 souls on board. Yup. I'm watching this as a retired instructor pilot with 5000 Huey hours and I hate to be critical, mate, but I've never seen someone make so many torque changes in cruise flight. Hopefully, you never flew the lead ship in a formation flight - trail would be furious! I am envious though! I have to pay to fly these days and I don't get enough time to maintain a decent control touch. Also, I believe this aircraft and I served 'together' on Lane Army Heliport in An Son, Vietnam in 1972. I was a Huey crew chief at that time assigned to H Troop, 10th Air Cavalry, a sister unit to the 129th. Keep the dirty side down, Mike!

@@mikedurham3564 He's probably an experienced and proficient pilot who'll do just fine without my help. I'm guessing the British forces don't conduct formation flights so my suggestion is mute. Gli elicotteri,come sappiamo, si possono anche fermare in volo, e quindi dall ' alto ha la possibilita' di guardare meglio alcune cose a terra. Giuseppe Perrotta di Mazzarrone, provincia di Catania. Cordiali saluti.

That Huey looks in mint shape inside and out! Nice video the pilot makes me a little nervous. He keeps farting around with his eyeglasses too much. Must be sweating.
