Spent 5 years in a huey... also combat time under fire... took a beating ! Outstanding machine ! Med evac "Dustoff" saved a lot of lives !

I was a Huey mechanic and door gunner sometimes and the whop whop sounds bring back memories.

Rode in one of these over Gainesville Georgia a few years ago. Pilot took us around just like this but added a couple of low-G drops (rapid descents) along the way with 9 people on board. When the collective was pulled the classic Huey chop-chop was loud as hell. Very thrilling ride even if slightly risky. Pilot served in Vietnam as Huey pilot so he knew what he was doing. The power on hand is amazing.

I rode with GA based Sky Soldiers as well, but in Northern Indiana for Rotors and Ribs. Our machine was the "Comanchero" with some dude and a rope on the nose. Pulled same moves. I wouldn't say there is power on hand. Maybe for the time, but this thing is what 1,400hp at the shaft? AH-1 Cobra seats only two and is 1,800hp at the shaft.

In Germany (West) we call this Huey "Teppich-Klopfer" (carpet-drummer). I flew with him by Search-and-Rescue (SAR) missions. Oh what a unchangable sound🌈⚠️

When I was going through Military Police school, we got to ride in a Huey (mock combat assault). The pilots were older, probably getting ready to retire. We lifted off to an altitude of about 50 feet, flying up a snaking riverbed. We were really moving!. The pilot pulled up on the collective, and we popped up to about 100-200 feet, then he lowered it and we descended, flaring just above the ground. Most exhilarating ride of my life!!! The Army certainly got its money out of the Huey program for sure. So glad some are still flying. Thanks to all who restore, maintain them and fly them. I have no doubt younger kids probably went to into Army Aviation when they got older.

Was the Military Police school at Fort McClellan Alabama. I too was there and rode in a Bell Huey 1979. They had the doors closed because of winter. They vibrate hard upon landing.

Wonder what the Master Caution light was about at takeoff shot? 3:35 minute. I was a 67N 1982-88 and 92-94. Love the sound, feel the beat, and the smell. What a ride. Most of our pilots from 82-86 were straight out of Vietnam and could give you a ride of the lifetime. Doing door gunner training and qualifications was a once and awesome experience.
