Unfortunately, Huey can no longer perform. In 2018, he was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease, which severely diminished his hearing. In his 70s now, he lives on his ranch in Montana. He dropped out of college and traveled around Europe, busking and earning just enough to "see the world" while learning to play blues harmonica. Ultimately, he returned home to San Francisco and joined Clover, who eventually got some gigs in England through Nick Lowe and were Elvis Costello's backing band on his debut album (except for Huey since Costello didn't need another singer or a harmonica player). After Clover disbanded, Huey started his own band that became The News after a new manager got them a recording contract. Huey Lewis and The News was the rare straight ahead rock band to dominate MTV and the Top 40 in the '80s. Thanks imadrummin and Harri.

There is hope!!!, Huey was recently (a yr or 2 ago ) in touch with Brian Johnson of ACDC who has had hearing issues (surprise not!) and Johnson has recommended a revolutionary hearing aid system that can amplify reduced hearing. Not sure of the details but it's worth checking the story.

Great group from the 80's-90's. They had a lot of great hits such as "Do You Believe In Love", "Workin' For A Livin'", "I Want A New Drug," "If This Is It", "Stuck With You", "Jacob's Ladder," "Hip To Be Square" etc.

They played at my college in the mid-80s. A DJ friend got me a backstage pass & I met Huey & the band. Each was very pleasant & nice guys. Huey & I talked about chin clefts. My paternal grandfather had a very deep chin cleft that was difficult to shave. My current husband has one, but keeps a beard or goatee because he doesn't like it. Huey has a great chin cleft!

I was so lucky to see them before their album Sports in our little town in the Bay Area 🌉 I remember the song with all the cities names. I was soo excited when The Heart of Rock and Roll cam out! I also got to see them on NYE in the 80’s. Plus, I have his autograph on a Post It when my friends and I ran into him on Stinson Beach 😍😛

Back in my high school days in Northern California my high school use to get two groups called “Clover” and a competitor group “Soundhole” to play at all our high school dances and at our Friday lunch time concerts. “Huey Lewis and the News” was formed from the members of both groups. They were so good! Ram

I met Huey in 1985 when The Tower of Power horns were touring with him. A real humble all around nice guy. Band leader of Tower of Power, Emilio Castillo credits Huey with saving their career and helped keep the band alive by having the horns tour with him. Back in the mid 80's, ToP had a lot of bad habits shall we say and thankfully they're clean and sober now.

went on a honeymoon cruise to bermuda in '84. this album [ sports] had just come out and had it on the cruise with about 10 other cassettes. heard the tape one time and i might have well thrown the other 9 overboard. a whole week poolside with huey on my walkman. great times

This was the 3rd single from their 1983 album " Sports". Inspired by a discussion of where the best Rock and Roll was in the US, when the Band released their copies for promotion, the name of the town they went to were in the songs contents. Made it to Number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100's, 1 of the Band's top 10 hits. This song cannot be improved. Everything, including the video is so freakin enjoyable. New sub here. I was lucky enough to see Huey and the News for my 20th birthday in 2017. Sadly he had to retire from live shows not long after due to hearing issues related to Ménière's disease. They put on an incredible performance I'll never forget. I grew up listening to them and countless other great acts of various genres since my parents were both 80s kids.

I’m not sure which guy in black you’re talking about, but Mario the bass player often stood still while playing, sometimes with a lit cigarette in the strings. Check out I Want a New Drug, look for the long live version with Chris Hayes sitting on the stage holding an orange guitar, he rips a killer intro.

This song is actually a cover song. The original is from a band called Exile but, it was the HL&TN version that went up the charts. The original is good but, it sounds less polished and unrefined. Sounds more like a final demo and TN's version would be the final, polished and updated/upgraded superior product. One of those times where a cover is regarded as better than the original.

This song does not fit them. 😖 Produced by Huey Lewis and the News. Years before the band was formed, Huey Lewis was in Clover 🍀 Their last producer was Mutt Lange.
