"Do You Believe in Love" was the first top ten hit for the group off their 2nd album titled, "Picture This", peaking at #7 in April of 1982. Try not to read to much literally into the video. Its just a fun video for a catchy song. The first of many hits by a truly great and talented band that could not only sing, but made music with instruments.

Good one, Lex! Yes, Huey Lewis and the News always had an old school doo wop /old R&B vocal harmony sound to their songs. Similar to Hall and Oates. Check out more of their songs and videos, they are good. Lots hits during the '80s and early '90s. Bluesy pop rock. Typical late '70s, '80s and early 90s, too with the saxophone solos . lol

If you're going to listen to Huey Lewis, there is an essential list of songs that you have to listen to. Everyone typically knows The Power of Love from the box office smash, Back to the Future. Huey even does a cameo in the movie as a judge at "Battle of the Bands" tryouts. The other essential songs are The Heart of Rock and Roll, Back in Time (Also From Back to the Future), Workin' For a Livin', Hip to be Square, I Want a New Drug, Stuck With You, and Doing it All for My Baby.

Like another person mentioned in their comments, videos in the 80's were 'different'. A LOT of big movie directors got their start directing music videos. They would do all sorts of funky things (as you're finding out as you go through 80's music videos). Sometimes it would be social or political commentary. Sometimes it would be artistic. Sometimes it would just be silly. Mostly the video was left to the interpretation of the director and probably didn't always line up with what the real gist of the song was about. But we got a lot of cool videos and movies from it. As for the guys hanging around the girl in this video. I always thought it was more like they were subliminally in her head. Not physically present. Great song otherwise. A lot of great songs from Huey Lewis and the News!

As already mentioned, Huey Lewis and the News were one if the great super groups of the 80's and their album "Sports" was HUGE. The album's songs were golden...not a stinker in the bunch. Their videos were super imaginative and were in constant rotation on MTV. And...if you want reality, watch the evening news. Their videos were about imagination and fantasy...but they were all really interesting: "If This is It", "The Heart of Rock and Roll", "I Want a New Drug"...were all excellent songs with equally excellent videos. Check them out!

I saw them live in L. A. Right at their peak. It was one of the greatest shows, if not the greatest I have ever seen. And I've been to well over a hundred concerts. So that tells you how truly great they were. It was definitely the happiest concert I ever went to. EVERYONE had a perma smile the whole concert. Another truly amazing thing was. They had a huge horn section. With 4 different saxophone players. And each sax player did a solo. Well each player in the horn section did a solo. It was totally f#$king awesome. You two need to checkout more of their songs. To really understand how great these guys were and are. Most of their music generates a positive attitude. Which is very rare now a day's. Really even back then it was rare. Oh, Brad good job with your truck. It really SUCKS working on vehicles. But like a fool, I always do it myself also. Take care.......

That was a thing back in the 80s. Guys would take a picture of a girl they liked then followed her around until they were madly in love. Soon she would move in and sleep in your bed. And while she is sleeping the guy would call all of his guy friends over to sing love songs to his girl. Perfectly normal for the 80s.

Great song! Produced by Huey Lewis and The News. Back in the 1970s, Huey Lewis was in the band Clover. That was founded in Marin County. I remember them! On the last album, Mutt Lange produced and wrote their songs. The band used to perform with Elvis Costello. But Clover broke up. In 1980, Huey Lewis and some members of Clover founded The News. In 1982, Huey Lewis got permission from Mutt Lange to rearrange and cover Do You Believe in Love. Written by Mutt Lange. He sampled the music from Jeff Lynne ,who wrote Sweet Talkin Woman. He never filed a copyright lawsuit: he prefers being friendly towards other musicians, which does pay off. The irony is that 2 decades later, 1990s, Mutt wrote and produced with Bryan Adams, who in the 2000s, had Jeff Lynne produce his album. Back to Mutt Lange. In 1979, he produced Highway to Hell , and in 1980, produced Back in Black, both for AC/DC. In 1981, Mutt produced the album 4 for Foreigner. All of these albums are bestsellers. Also in 1982, Mutt sang backing vocals in She Blinded Me with Science for Thomas Dolby. Strongly suggested video: Huey Lewis sings It Hit Me Like a Hammer. Written by Huey Lewis and Mutt Lange. That song was written and recorded 9 years after Do You Believe in Love.

I remember when I was in 9th grade (1984-85), both the boys and the girls listened to Huey Lewis. Brad, you're not wrong about the video being a little creepy. But it's a fun song, so don't worry about it.

The song "Hip to be square" should be next, it has a 1950's feel.

80's, it's more innocent time, vid is a little 'funny'.. Had he in "photo" as to say itwas a dream, but now it's changed, now I've got you and it's gonna last: they're togeather for real now. More innocent than I guess vid or 2022 makes it seem. Love it. Thanks again guys.

The video was to show he indeed wants the girl, but it's more of his emotions talking. And it was done in a cheeky way by having his band mates with him as his hearts pines for the girl who doesn't appear to be aware of how he feels about her.

The Huey Lewis song to really listen to is The Power of Love (which was featured in the Back to the Future movie and was perfect for that).
