Me and my kids listen to Huey Lewis pretty much every day. I was born in 1980 and I grew up to his music. My dad loved his songs and we sang them together on road trips and drives around town. My dad died last year, but all Huey’s songs are like a little hug from my dad every time I hear them. Thanks to Huey for his music, for being awesome in Back to the Future, for being part of the soundtrack of my life. ❤

I had four posters of Huey and the News on my wall as a middle schooler. I listened to the tapes all. the. time. My first big concert was to see them on the Fore! tour at the Worcester Centrum in Massachusetts. Flash forward about 17 years and imagine my surprise when I was eating a burrito in the West Village of NYC and Huey was sitting right behind me. I'm so glad I was introduced to some real rhythm and blues music in the 80's. Thanks, Huey Lewis and The News!

One of my bucket list moments was seeing Huey Lewis & The News about 11 or 12 years ago, playing a small hotel venue in the gardens overlooking the river out back on a sunny summer afternoon. That was immense to be a part of. You just don't see bands with an entire horn section anymore.

I started high school in 84. Never bought a HL&N album but the songs were great! And the videos. I guess they were so popular I heard them enough on the air or on MTV at the time. When I heard that Huey had lost his hearing and saw a documentary clip about it, I couldn't believe it. Such a cruel thing to happen to such a cool and talented guy. Glad to see him doing so well.

Off The Wall has sold over 20 million copies since its release August 29, 1979... I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that meantime dis For more context, it's a classic album and has produced some legendary singles. It's also a lot less flashy than all his future albums but vocally I'd consider it as perhaps his best!

@@christopherporter2459 Regardless of release date, those were all the albums to reach the #1 spot on Billboard, during the year 1984. "Sports" had the shortest stay, for only one week, but still amazing considering the company it had in the charts that year.

@@christopherporter2459 As stated in the video, Thriller and Sports were a couple of the number 1 albums in 1984 too. Sports was released in September 1983 but reached number 1 in June 1984. Thriller was released in 1982 but the song Thriller wasn't released as a single in the US til January 1984 (as the 7th single from the album). The music video having debuted a month earlier and was being played on TV a lot during 1984. So despite those two albums being released before 1984 they sold loads in 1984 more so than almost any other albums released in 1984 and so came to define that year too. I'm typing 1984 so much I sound like I'm one of those who takes Orwell's book a lil too seriously in the modern age. :P

1984 was a great year. On top of the fantastic music I met Joan at work. We went to her apartment a lot and listen to Huey Lewis while messing around. She wanted me to be her first and wanted it on July 20th, the anniversary of the moon landing in 1969. So we went to her apartment and listened to The Heart of Rock n Roll and Do Want A New Drug along with the rest of the great songs on that cassette. What a night!

DS guests are often fascinating people.. but I particularly love seeing a guest with hearing loss interviewed and integrated seamlessly just like anyone else, so it didn’t become the focus point or an otherwise limiting thing. Please keep having folks who happen to have disabilities on to talk about their expertise- and not doing it in a way that overly focuses on the disability itself. Huey is an absolute legend. Great to see his career continue to grow & progress even after hearing loss changed his options. Look forward to catching his musical when it comes to town.

Short tale...the year was 1984 early spring through late fall offshore onboard a North Sea pipelay-barge living in dormitory style twice X double bunk 12-hr shifts 24-7...every morning was Monday. I was in my early 30s when he came along--his band made me turn the radio *up,* as I did with all the great groups of the 50s, '60s, and '70s when I was in my teens & 20s. These days when I turn the radio on it's classic rock or actual _classical_ music. I don't have much of an ear for Spotify's top 20, although some of it's ok.
