Originally proposed by the Thailand-based property developer Reignwood Group, and designed to be the largest amusement park in Asia (to have covered 120 acres (49 ha)), construction stopped in 1998 following financial problems with local officials, while a 2008 attempt to start construction again also failed. I find it bizarre that someone actually pays security for abandoned places like this. like if they're abandoned in there's no plans for them why keep pouring money into protecting it. I mean I guess you want to keep the investment from getting destroyed but why keep putting money into something that is going to go nowhere. I feel like I understand it on some level but at the same time it just feels so bizarre.

I don't know about China and their laws, but in many places in the US, you are still responsible for your property even after it is abandoned. Even if someone breaks in and hurts themselves, you are responsible. So you pay the absolute cheapest security firm to "guard" it. That way, if someone gets hurt and sues you, you turn around and sue the security firm. The alternative is to sell/forfeit the land which typically isn't allowed until you clean the land up.

Very late but I did do some research on this theme park, here's what I found: - The abandoned crap was up for auction, April earlier this year - This isn't a government project - The company and investors, 淮南志高动漫文化科技发展有限公司 and 志高集团 were listed as untrustworthy due to not being able to pay back astronomical foreign loans - The project had a budget of 1000 million yuan, spent 600 million and fell through - The company filed for bankruptcy - The project occupied land illegally, land that they weren't allowed to build on - Many suspect the entire project was just a massive ponzi scheme. I read posters claiming they have inside information/worked on it, stating that the quality was beyond sub-par and there's debacles when it came to construction. Many investors sadly do stuff like this to scam the government/investors. There's lots of photos of the place on Chinese social media sites, it's probably a relatively popular destination for urban-ex types in China.

@@ANGEL-kp6nt You don't need a VPN. I'm from Australia. I'm fluent in the Chinese language also, that's why I can find this kind of stuff easily. FYI, there's far bigger failed projects than this tiny theme party by the way. Here's an example: you【】tu.be/P9I8S【】IDWNus Remove those big brackets. Basically a regional government of some piss-poor hole got a massive grant from the central gov (CCP), they wasted it all on these failed, wannabe "epic surreal" projects that are now abandoned. Everyone involved have been arrested under corruption charges. Also, this isn't "banned" in China, the state media talked about it in shock.
