I like this being available for other aircraft besides those which already have onboard performance calculators such as A320, B737... Especially the smaller Ga and Bizjets.

Consider this: If you take on the 1-year subscription it’s 81.64 euros, which is 88.77 USD at current exchange rates. What do you get? Jeppessen charts worldwide, updated navigation database for your simulator and whatever addons you have, and an updated navigation database for SimBrief. That’s pretty much it, alongside some Work stuff like the overlays and whatnot. My hot take is that compared to a high-fidelity addon aircraft, it’s a waste of money. The PMDG 737s retail for 70 USD for their most expensive models, 35 USD if you want the -600. The Fenix goes for 50 GBP, which is about 64 USD at current prices. That’s about 20 USD less than a Navigraph sub, and you get to use these addons pretty much forever. Or at least till 2030 when MS shuts down the MSFS2020 servers. The other part of the equation is that you can get all these things for free, if you know where to look. Worldwide *updated* charts are available at many sources online, including chart fox, airnav etc. Navdata and the SimBrief part you can deal with, with just a bit of extra work to check which waypoints have been renamed, or you can simply not bother if you’re flying offline. On VATSIM controllers will just give you either radar vectors or ask you to fly an old procedure if they know it’s the same one just remembered. Or, well, buy a month’s subscription for the navdata only (much cheaper, but it’s hidden away on their site), get everything updated, and do this once a year, or after any major AIRAC changes in the locales you often fly, which will happen once in every 3 years or so. I remember when MSFS was first announced out everyone was vehemently against any idea of a subscription model, even though it obviously costs MS money to stream the data and keep the lights on at Asobo. Thankfully they’ve been resourceful enough to fund things through the marketplace, but by comparison, I’ve really yet to really see anyone complain about Navigraph’s comparatively insane prices. I mean, is a fully fledged simulator with lots of free content, aircraft, beautiful scenery, and everything that MSFS 2020 offers, of less value than a Navigraph subscription for 1 year? Or a high-fidelity addon airliner you can fly to anywhere in the simulator with, with complex systems simulated, many of which are nearly identical to their real world counterparts? It becomes even more ludicrious when you realise that the Navigraph sub would be nigh useless without these 2 other things. Well, market forces are king, I suppose. This is a well-documented phenomenon in economics but the name escapes me, where you attach value to something not based on its intrinsic value, but rather by comparing it to its equivalents. Other AAA games retail for around 60 USD, so MSFS is a price taker here. Whereas Navigraph’s marketing team was smart, they emphasised that a subscription for the real Jeppesen charts would cost thousands a year, neatly occluding the fact that these subscriptions are commercial ones meant for larger scale operations. Heck, foreflight offers a 10 USD a month subscription with IFR VFR charts, weather, flight planning, and these are certified for real-world operations… Well, it’s not my place to say anything about what you should or should not do. At the end of the day, the value you attach to a product only you can decide. If 90 USD a month is worth it for you, go ahead I say, and enjoy the benefits that come with it. But for anyone who’s looking for alternatives, there are free services online that give you 80% of what it offers.

Thought I read it wrong in their email at first, but if it turns out as expected then that will be wonderful for fsimmers. Tbf Ive been Navigraph subscriber for longtime but Navigraph have really delivered with simbrief updates and constant updates to charts. Credit where it’s due 👍

Awesome! This has been sorely missed! It’s great to see devs putting performance calculators on EFBs. In my experience, the PMDG is much too conservative for the 737-800. And it doesn’t even give data for “bump” performance. So hopefully this will be better on those fronts. Also, Boeing’s “double derate” system is silly. All you’re really after is an N1… there’s a different AT for each thrust rating that can give you the same one. At least I’m convinced there’s a lot of overlap. Oh well.

It would seem to make sense if they provide an API for it. Otherwise you get performance calculations based on the predicted weather when you made the flight plan. So would be neat if EFBs could get updated values.

This is one of those features that's so obviously useful that when I first got back into flightsim, I was like "why doesn't anyone make a tool that can calculate V speeds?" Then Fenix put it into their EFB, and my thought was "everyone else needs to do this". I guess they don't necessarily have to now. Question: How is this done in the real world? Are calculators provided by each airline in the EFBs they give to pilots, or are they provided by Airbus/Boeing?

Not sure how they handle obstacle then, do they have data for most airports like TOPCAT, or just totally ignore it like Toliss EFB? I kinda like old PMDG EFB's approach, you can input your own (although only one) data in the NOTAM tab, as sometime I do have the realworld obstacle data on say 737's take off table, but I want calculate B757 or A319 for that airport then.
