On the contrary, there're lots of sci-fi TTRPG. 1st edition of Traveller was released in 1977 and remains one of the most popular TTRPG ever, it even has retroclone in the person of Cepheus Engine. There are Coriolis by Free League, Mothership by Tuesday Knight Games, Cyberpunk (2013/2020/v3/RED) by R.Talsorian, lots of them + games based on franchises (Alien and Star Trek for example).

You missed DC20 which is shaping up to look super amazing. and Starfinder is one good scifi ttrpg. Bit wordy....I wish they would cut it down honestly and streamline stuff, but if you like D&D 3.5, or pathfinder 1 or 2. Starfinder Enhanced edition just makes it better.

I'm actually pretty excited for the DC20 RPG, but I haven't heard a lot of people talk about it since the Kickstarter ended. I think it'll be a great game for those who want a ton of character customization while still staying with familiar areas like classes/species/stats, etc.

The dagger heart system mentioned here sounds reminiscent of the Star Wars rpg from fantasy flight games. (Eote etc)Also you should check out DC20 by the dungeon coach. It’s shaping up to be a great game.

My thoughts exactly.
@paweszymkowiak707227 күн бұрын
Exactly! I heard the description of Dagger Heart and I immediately went "Wait, why he presents that as something groundbreaking? I've played like that already!". The FFGs mechanics build upon Star Wars RPG line is called Genesys and has been released as a framework rulset to work in many settings, with sourcebooks for some of FFGs original universes. Also, most modern mechanics allow for degrees of succes/failure to be determined by the roll.

We are sitting at the exact same table that you are, Phil! We share a love of Daggerheart, Draw Steel, and even your thoughts about "Choosing a Flavor of 5e" because you Just Can't Quit D&D (ours is mostly Tales of the Valiant). Of COURSE there are more than just these new games coming out, and tons of great not-new ones, but love to hear about the ones that you are most excited about! And none of them have to be "D&D killers", even; we just have an embarrassment of riches and truly a system for everyone and every thing. It really will be an amazing year ahead, won't it?

Happy holidays man. I am personally excited for Daggerheart and Draw Steel. The hard part is getting my table to try literally anything that doesn't have the D&D logo on it. A few of my players are big Sanderson fans, so that might be an option. Maybe 2025 will be the year.

Part two!!!! For a Sci-Fi game I think starfinder also fits on the list. Also I know Pathfinder second edition is technically already released but with the remaster version I think it could still kind of fit as a new TTRPG. Plus it has a super-rich lore history and does an amazing job at creating compelling characters and is very well balanced mechanically.

I started to run Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. My players are excited because they think it brings more depth to the roleplaying. I personally also like the scaling better. If anyone is interested,the starter set has enough material in in to last a full campaigns length in Ubersreik, your favorite vermintide hangout. Im not buying in, but im curious how the upcoming tainted grail ttrp will perform.

Daggerheart is the one that I'm most excited about, though I have a feeling that a lot of groups will drop the initiative-less setup in favour of more structured play. Us humans don't have the acting / comedy / improv chops to know when we're taking too much of the spotlight in combat, and even with the initiative tracker tokens, it can feel like one character gets to shine at the expense of the others. That's pretty much my only gripe with it though, I'm in love with everything else about the system - including the fact the Combat Wheelchair is part of the core rules and EVERYONE knows sign language. Discworld is going to be a tonne of fun too - I just need to find some players with a similar enthusiam for witty puns! Happy holidays to you from (sometimes) sunny Scotland!

@davidmcculloch770912 күн бұрын
Daggerheart has some cool ideas, but ultimately it’s a less interesting Genesys which inspired the narrative roll system (as stated by Genesys). It didn’t catch on, but it’s a better system.

idk about dnd dying in 2025, I tried telling a group of complete ttrpg noobs that dnd does not equal ttrpg and that, for what we were looking to play, it would be best to use a different system and they said "no we wanna play dnd." In session 0 I almost completely converted the entire system to something completely different by asking what "settings" they wanted to adjust XD Like it was a video game.

Given my feels on 5e, I have no faith in WotC making a good sci fi rpg. For the time being I'll stick to PF2e for fantasy, and I'll check out Starfinder 2e when it comes out. I'm curious about Daggerheart and... uh... the MCDM rpg too. Cosmere RPG... well, while I do quite enjoy the books, I have never once thought "I want to play in these worlds" so unless the system is stellar (I haven't looked into it) and not a pita to put into a different setting, I imagine I'll be passing on it.

It is ridiculous to state that Daggerheart, the Discworld RPG or the Cosmere RPG will be a DND Killer. You would have to ignore math, pattern recognition and logic to state this - and I think you very much are.
@BonusAction27 күн бұрын

@JScottGaribay27 күн бұрын
@BonusAction Every TTRPG has a few tables that prefer their game. The definition of a D&D killer is a ttrpg that fully arrives and actually competes with D&D a national and international level. Thank you for the video.

Lmao, Daggerheart. Earthdawn has done all this since the 90’s. None if this is new. D&d absolutely needs de-throning. The game that will be and should always have been king since the 90’s is Earthdawn. The only fantasy rpg for series role-players and great system mechanic buffs alike.
