HUGE CLOSET CLEANOUT ✨ decluttering, organizing + inspiring transformation *help!*

Something I learned over many years of doing closet cleanouts and perhaps an unpopular opinion, is that I often regretted donating things that I didn’t wear for 6-12 months. Because years later the trend came back or my style changed, or I started a different job, and I needed those items of clothing. I think there’s something to be said for holding on to items you do like and that fit, even if it’s not something you wear right now. That seems like a more sustainable option, as you will likely come back to it the next year, or a few years later. But that’s just my experience and thoughts :) love watching your videos, and with your personality I would watch absolutely anything you upload, I just adore your bright and vibrant personality x

that's me but i don't like following trends because #1 they're so ephemeral and stupid and #2 why go with the flow? i only buy stuff i know i'll feel comfortable with (which are shirts and pants mostly) but also important for university (like the occasional business casual outfit)

right Ive had that before but more i held on to something then felt bad but got really into it a couple years down the line. Now I just donate stuff that i haven't worn for literal years, doesn't fit right and therefore I always reach for smth else, or I truly personally don't like the style of/dont feel confident in. I've also seen someone on tiktok keep their impulse donates for like a year then go through them again before final donation which I also think is a really good idea if you have the storage space.

also important how well you know yourself tho, some people as soon as they're not wearing something frequently, they will never pick it up again. I'm not like that, sometimes it takes me a while to lean into something (I think because of oversitmulation) and you're obviously not but I've known people who are.

Yes! My mom had her wedding crinoline and it hadn’t been used in around five years, so she donated it, but since then, we’ve needed it 5-10 times due to costumes and other events! We have one now because I needed one for a Snow White costume, but it’s so unfortunate.

Having an emotional attatchment to clothes is so real but sometimes we dont want to let go even though we know we prob wont end up wearing it. This is why I get rid or clothes when im sad or mad..limits the attatchment then turns out I dont even miss those pieces and enjoy the extra space💀

Sometimes with clothes, it helps when I say out loud what I like about it and how I feel in it. I have a free clothes shop nearby, where you trade and donate and I always haul new stuff into the house, because it gives me a certain feeling. But that feeling is within me, not per-sé because of the clothes. For example, I got rid of a blouse yesterday, two blouses actually and a pair of gloves and a dress. The dress reminded me of Mary in the Nativity, blue and wavy, but it made me look like a grandma instead. But Mary was a fashion (blue, wavy, dress) inspiration, so that was noted. The blouses were Scandi-hippie (like a swedish decorated horse, but blue and white) and it did not fit me. The other blouse was giving 70's theater-kid and circus-performer. Those are all lovely things that I like and I asked myself if I have anything else in my cabinet that would make me look like a 70's theater-hippie and a circus performer. And yes, I do. So I do not have to leave/abandon that part of myself, it is nice to write down that that is currently my thing and once you notice your 'things' you will see how many of the same styles are in your cabinet. I can safely say I have about 15 Mary's, 10 hippie-from-the-70's and at least 30 circus-performer outfits. I probably don't like all of them and at some point, the ones I do not wear, will have to go and find someone else. That being said, my others are 'Snowwhite, bride, mermaid, 90's popstar, 80's weirdo, medieval businesslady, cutesy living plushtoy and dramatic goth. I think everything in my cabinet fits into those boxes, if you count the circusperformer and the hippie.
