Thanks for the kind words and you are absolutely correct, I'm in the absolute worst geographic location for this sort of thing. With that said, if I was close to him or if he was close to me, we'd try to work out a deal. Here, I could have all of those 100% restored and try to sell the whole lot for $200 and a flea market flipper would offer me $50, and then I'd say something ugly. As far as shipping, I just mailed a '50's kiddie record player within the state and it was boxed as small as I could get it and have it arrive safely, and it was a few cents shy of $40.

I have the same problem with classic cars all the good stuff is too far. How good are the Westinghouse and Trav-ler records players? Kinda like the Westinghouse H86ACS1.
@radiotvphononut2 жыл бұрын
@@cipherthedemonlord8057 I'm pretty sure the Westinghouse is a "one tube wonder" and the TravLer might also be the same. The biggest issue with those is they require a 3 volt crystal cartridge and those have not been made in decades. If you're lucky enough to find a NOS cartridge that is still good, it's probably going to be expensive and your only other options are to install a modern 0.5V ceramic cartridge and live with very low volume, or build a preamp circuit to boost the cartridge output up to 3V.

I am pretty much a record player person myself. There is a few really really good ones in that pile I see a brown Columbia 360 in a leather case. Definitely the ones with the VM 1200 record Changers and push-pull amplifiers would definitely be worth restoring. That round Emerson that looks like a ladies hair dryer I actually have that in Black. Definitely definitely a lot of good stuff in that pile. I can also tell you there is a Motorola 3 channel in that pile and a gray case. Now I noticed there are no 45 players in that pile these are all three speed and 4-speed phonographs. RADIOTVPHONONUT would have every one of these running and perfect mint condition.

I repair vintage hi fi equipment for a local store in my retirement. Usually Pioneer Marantz ect. But every so often someone brings in one of these that has sentimental value to them. The biggest pain is the dried out idlers. What I do is sand down the diameter a bit then affix a same width flat belt over it. It works great. About a year ago an elderly lady I would guess at 90 years old but as sharp as anyone brought a mono RCA yard wide console that another shop had for a couple of years and all the did was put a large scratch across the top of it. I rebuilt the amp fixed the rubber parts and repaired the scratch and cleaned it up real pretty. When she picked it up with her great grandson I had a Tommy Dorsey disc playing on it. She started tearing up and said that was her husbands favorite song. I will never forget that.

This collection just took me back fifty years when he swung around and showed the grey/white Westinghouse with the tone/volume knobs! I had the exact same one in my bedroom, bought from my elementary school at a thrift sale for a dollar. It had a two tube amp (35W4 and 50C5 if memory serves) and a BSR UA15 four speed turntable. I played the crap out of it for years. Nice haul. I never saw so many in one place.

What's so cool about these types of suitcase record players to me is, every single one of them is a slightly different design that does basically the same thing, but you can tell at some point in the design process some dude sat down with a piece of paper and a pencil, and just drew some crazy ass design with a few knobs on it, and a slightly different shape, and some different colors than you would expect, and then it got approved! It's just so cool how every single one of them has a slightly different look. I've got about 10 of them myself, it's hard to resist the damn things when you see them for sale somewhere!

My parents got my sister , my brother , and I two different PHILCO STEREO RECORD CHANGERS with "S AND H GREEN STAMPS" in the early 1960's . My brother and I shared one and this one had speakers that were both removable . My sister's record changer had only one removable speaker . My mother and two of her sisters would combine their "S AND H GREEN STAMPS" books for different members of the family .We were all teenaged "baby boomers" and that was great ! I still remember that they were the tube - type sets that used the "60FX5" tube . There's a 2 cabinet Admiral stereo portable in the right most stack bottom and the third stack from the right second up (you can tell because they look identical). Those Admirals are AWESOME (I have a complete 2 piece unit). They have a PP 6BQ5 stereo console grade amp loud enough to fill an entire house with music. **Both units need to be kept together.** One cabinet is the speakers (they separate from each other when the case is open), and the other cabinet is the changer and amp (without speakers).
