The 'old' Ork combat Patrol was 20 boyz, warboss in mega armor, 3 deff koptas and a dread. In the new kit the warboss is traded for the beastboss, the 20 boys for 20 beast snagga boyz, the 3 koptas for the 4 squig riders...what's the dead exchanged for? We're getting a lot less for the same price.

@@LordCrate-du8zm That's the thought process I was running along for why you'd opt to run them, but that's just from the competitive side of Warhammer. Personally, I don't plan on running that many bikes ever, that's way too many for me to have fun unless I'm playing a 1000pt game where I can take like... 12 bikes and that's it. Just ask the Aeldari player to join me. However, there are tons of usages outside of gameplay reasons you might own that many bikes. Having multiple bikes can come in handy for painting and scenery/dioramas. Personally, my plan if I get additional Jetbikes after this that I can't sell or trade is to buy an insane base and start detailing it so on the sides and in the background, you can see the Custodes and their bikes crashed into trees or mounds of dirt. The Chaos Primarchs all share the 100mm base, so if I made the center hollow for the 100mm base, I could have a display, showing the Primarch in a moment of triumph. Another fun option is taking the Dawneagle Bikes, kitbashing a marine on it and making it look like a White Scar got their hands on technology way too far out of their league and using that to proxy out for Bikes in Space Marines if your playgroup is okay with it.

I love how the Custodes box has too much in it to use in Combat patrol. But if you can get the old box and this box you are basically done for the most part. or even 2 versions of this box give you a great start for 10th. Could so some changes for Blade Champion into a captain if you have him some of the weapons/arms from the wardens or Guards and try and take a shield onto him, or just have both options for the Blade Champion (great sword or dual wield). Might have to get into Custodians now, maybe get one of the dreads or bikes.

​@@scolack123 I don't know Ork lore, but from the name alone I guess Beast Snaggas are monster hunters Anti-monster rules are usually anti-vehicle rules as well, so they'll probably keep that role in the new codex And, from what I've seen, combat patrols don't completely change rules ; they're slightly tweaked, but the datasheets stay pretty much the same

The Custode box is a solid A. What can I say that hasn’t been said before? Maybe that the only reason that it isn’t an A+ box is because it’s hard to make a bad Custode box. Like you’d actively have to try to make a bad one. I was originally kind of happy with the Ork box, but the more I think about it the worse it is. At very least it’s consistent with its theme and actually gives you an HQ who can attach to your unit. And if you want Beastsnaggaz, this is the best way to go about it. It may even be worth getting two if you really want Beastsnaggaz. But there’s the rub, you’ve got to want Beastsnaggaz. It’s an oddly specific niche in the army. Plus, there’s many ways it could have been better. Remember how good the Ork Boarding Patrol was? I struggle to give the -Ork- Beastsnaggaz Combat Patrol anything higher than a C+.

I thought the point of combat patrol was to be as close as possible to 500 points, being so massively high above the other armies gives them intense advantage. Maybe only guard could compete as it can reinforce the guardsmen squad.

Genuinely like both CP's and thats been 50/50 this editon. The Custodes CP pairs well with the new army box and old CP. Pretty much got yourself a full 2k army and the entire range outside of a couple leaders for around $600. I didnt expect the terminators to be in it so thats actually nice. No discount for Sisters any longer. I thought the new CP would at least come with one unit. The Ork one is exactly what I predicted it would be down to every unit. Its a great pair for their recent holiday battleforce. Its got far superior boys models in it, and does a better job of synergizing with the units. I think this CP will do well for beginners who like their aesthetic as well as veteran Ork players finally looking to dabble in Beast Snaggas

You could start collecting Custodes by buying two combat patrols and that would be a solid start (running multiple Blade Champions is a nice way to get your custodes rushing into combat with their once per game advance-charge with rerolls).

Just did the math, you can make a two thousand point army by doing the following: - 2x new Custodes Combat Patrols, build 1 terminator captain out of the six allarus terminators you get and run them as a 5+1 squad, the rest as regular Custodes. - Give the Blade Champions an enhancement each (I chose Veiled Blade and Ceaseless Hunter). - Add Trajann Valoris, Callidus Assassin, 4x Prosecutors.

I just bought a Ork CP on thursday thinking they a WAAAA sounded like a good time, Now I can add the new one to it and I may not have the most balanced army out there but i'll be able to put a good few points on the table at a reasonable price. Quite happy all told

I'm gonna be quite honest, it's hard to give GW credit for doing a good job with the Custodes box, because that army has about six total units, so it would've been hard for them to have ruined it unless they just made the box nothing but jetbikes...and I don't put it past GW to do something like that. That said, it _is_ excellent! Unfortunately I have to wait until I get paid but hopefully I can find a box still kicking around so I can combine the two and basically be almost _done_ with Custodes. The Ork box is like, sure. You're basically just buying 20 boys and some extra stuff. The Beast Snagga boys are cool, but I wouldn't want to build my whole army around them. It's nice to have this box to buy and basically just have a small Beast Snaggas detachment in my main Ork army because I do love the looka of the Beast Snagga boys and their boss, but I guess I do just lean more on the mech and green tide points of the Ork army triangle.

Seems like the best buys for starting a Custodes army is buying ONE EACH of both Combat Patrols. That way you get THREE units of guard, a unit of termies, some SoS, some Bikers and a Hero. I hope the old Combat Patrol Box doesn't sell out too fast on 3rd party websites.

What do you mean build around? They are the only three units we actually have. The bikes are useless until they redo them completely and the sisters are good for one screening before they are removed... Anything else is forge world and extremely expensive, but even then only Dreadnought, venetari and tank is of any interest, taking us up to 8 usable units + a few characters...

New Custodes box seems like a good infantry core, albeit takes away other elements that their players probably would've felt bad about buying separately otherwise (at least currently). But if the Codex release doesn't change much, a new player could probably just get two of these and then ham up on the FW range or Knights for armor. Honestly SoS should've always been a box of ten.

They don't just do that, and the data sheets might not be the same as the index ones. They're nice new models with a coherent look, that's why.

​@@chetmanley1885that's the theory but in praxis not a single combat patrol has datasheet changes beyond 'remove xyz ability'. Stats are same, weapons are same, etc.

I’m putting together my first WAAAGH and for my own theme reasons I was going to do half beast and half mech Orks so this box is going to save me money. I really like the beast Orks but I do think the old box is better

Get it twice ! With 6 allarus and 2 squads each of wardens & guards you get a SOLID basis. Add a trajann for one of the squad and maybe 1 box of bikes and boom, army done.
