Use a large piece of wood on the side with the piston so it doesn’t move the non damaged parts. My dad owns a frame machine but loves that little hydraulic extension.

It would have been nice to know what what you were pushing against inside the trunk. And because the tool pushes both ways aren't you creating damage on the other end?

Rear-end damage seems tougher since the quarter panels are welded-on. I have repaired front-end damage with cheap Harbor Freight tools (HF). New front fenders just bolt-on and their upper supports (inner fenders and radiator-support) are thin sections fairly easy to bend back. If the lower frame rails are bent, that is tougher. I used the 10-ton HF porta-power to push the frame rails back to center the front bumper after a side hit in our 1996 minivan. What to push against is the trick. I secured the minivan in our concrete garage and could push against the concrete door opening. The top strut mount was bent inward, so had to wait until years later when the transmission was out for a rebuild so I could push against the engine block to bend it back (other side of engine blocked to frame). It had a little too much camber until then, though drove straight with minimal tread wear. Shops with a frame machine can secure the vehicle in the rigid frame and pull or push from all directions. Us shade-tree guys must be more creative. After my 1985 M-B car took a front 45 deg hit, I chained the front top corner to a tree and backed up several times to jerk the top rail back so a used fender would bolt up. If buying a wrecked vehicle, I would prefer one with upper front-end damage since it looks horrid, but you can just bolt on new fenders, hood, and grill, as long as all damage is in front of the front axle, the vehicle will likely drive straight. I've also used my $90 HF wire-fed welder to fix many car things, which paid for itself many times over.

where did u mount 10 ton porta power to pull front rails? how?
@williamgrissom90222 жыл бұрын
@@vandalov777 I pushed with the porta-power, with its base against the concrete door opening. I built the garage myself and used rebar with the blocks filled with concrete at the door opening and where part was below ground in a hillside, so knew it wouldn't crack. I got much of the bend of the M-B out by backing up and jerking it with a chain on a tree, as explained above. But, later found a new hood wouldn't latch because the front radiator support was shifted sideways ~2". Not having a concrete garage this time, I wedged the car between 2 trees with wood blocks to the lower frame rails and bent the front frame rail back, pulling with a come-along. I stuck a thick steel pipe (~1.5" electrical conduit) in the frame rail hole and pulled at the end ~4 ft out for leverage, with a chain from that end to the other frame rail to form a triangle. I ran a rope thru the chain, to stop the chain from whipping if something broke, and stood behind a tree as I cranked. You must overbend a bit, relax to let it spring back, and check. Don't overbend or now you would have to apply forces in mirror image. Much easier setup for body shops which have a "frame machine" to secure the car and the pushing and pulling devices, but only took me a few hours for the tree support thing.

Hi Nobori, I have a queston, I just picked a sedan from Copart that has some trunk damage, to be more precise, the damage is where the spare tire is kept, someone hit it from underneath and it crunched part of the compartment where the tire compartment so now I have to pull this out. I just bought a porta power but I don't know where to base this unit from, I could use the other end of the tire compartment (since the compartment is a circle) as the base but I don't know if it will cause any damage to the area been used as base. Could you please give me your advise?

very important message: when using this tool... remember it pushes "both" ways...so where the foot is placed needs to be much stronger than where you are pushing...or you are creating more damage at the other end.... real professionals take years to learn to do this work properly first time

Im looking for a Newer Mini (2010-2017) with Low miles along with Color Change to Yellow. Or Older Mini cooper (2006-2009) and full Service (water pump, batter, plugs, brakes...etc). This could be a good topic for your channel. Let me know. Regards, Herman.
