Once as I was leaving with a large amount of groceries a lady (who had been huffing behind me the whole time) said to the cashier "some people don't understand what 12 or less means" to which the cashier said "ma'am, this isn't an express lane"

Commenting on purchases? I was once at Albertson's stocking up on supplies for a hiking trip. I purchased sleep aids, black trash bags, and duct tape for blister prevention. The checkout clerk asked "should I be worried?" I responded, "no, but can you tell me where I can find some lye?" The expression on her face was priceless until she realized I was kidding.

chest freezer tip - I use the cloth shopping bags to organize meats etc. The freezer is deep and things can get lost at the bottom. Put them in the bag and you can grab the handles to pull it all out easily. You can also store your bread on top - simply move the bread to the side to grab your bag, return the bag and put the bread back. You can even colour code your bags - green for veggies, red for meats... :)

Thanks for sharing. I live in Texas, everyone who's from here, is so chatty. Sometimes it's a pain and sometimes it can be a good thing. Back in the day, I was shopping and I had ginger ale and I was bald at the time, the cashier asked if I was okay. we ended up having a conversation about breast cancer. 11 years later, we're still chatting about our journey and treatments with cancer. 💜 I too love grocery shopping. We were food insecure growing up and so to have money to buy food is a blessing and I appreciate it everyday. If I don't ever have to see saltines with potted meat ever again, I will be a happy camper.

On the commenting on your order as they ring you out... When I had my first job as a cashier I was socially awkward and terrible at speaking to people. So I would try to make small talk as I am checking them out and I would ask them if they found everything they wanted, if they got help from anyone when they needed it, more ramble about an item they were getting if I loved it or thought it was useful or something. So maybe he was just trying to find small talk with you? Just a thought, love your videos thank you for always sharing your life and time with us

The best idea I have found for those cooking only for one is to make regular recipes, portion and freeze... to start it's a bit pricier and a bit more cooking, but once your freezer is stocked, you're only cooking once or twice a week, and you're still managing to eat with variety.

But then she commented about the thought of letting it go and I lost it. So funny.

Haha! I work as a cashier at the thrift store at the register some and I think it's like "cashier small talk" we just comment on what people are buying to strike up conversations. Today an older lady was buying a bunch of different kids clothes. I asked her if she has kids or grandkids she is buying clothes for and it started a little conversation about her grandkids and it was sweet. :)

I shopped this way raising my son as a single parent. I cooked to share and we had guests or took food to other houses too. I also gave away bags of food regularly out of our abundance. I hope this video is shared with students to teach them how to navigate our consumer oriented society with good health and financial management as a skill that can be learned and practiced. Please write a book so you get on national TV. I am very serious about this. You are a model of a woman who has chosen to create a family home that works for your family. Keep up the good work. You are an excellent example of true feminism as you are obviously well educated and an excellent communicator. You have created your own career as an excellent homemaker, an honorable and much needed skill set. I hold you in high regard.

My first job was at a public library. It’s a SPOKEN rule that you may not judge someone’s choices of what to check out. We literally were not even allowed to tell the cops what someone was reading. I always told myself that the person could very easily be writing a paper for school about whatever the controversial topic was. So when I became a cashier, I brought along the same attitude with me. If someone was buying massive amounts of junk food, I assumed they were donating it. Or doing a science project. Or whatever I had to tell myself in order to not judge their choices. 😁 At the end of the day, the store is selling it. The manufacturer made it. So it hardly makes sense to blame the consumer for... consuming.

@@tonistrickland4983 I’m a single senior on a serious budget too. My freezer helps immensely. I also can and dehydrate and use my instant pot💓 I tend to watch the weekly sales that come in the post- or download the Flipp app to see lots of your area weekly sales. When I find Chicken~ Whole, thighs or drumsticks packs for .99/lb ~ I buy a few and freeze, in size packs I need. (Bones become bone broth or soup) I just bought a pork loin roast on sale for $5, for nearly 6 pounds of meat~ that became a smaller roast, 4 thick chops, 4 thin chops, cubes for shish kabobs Produce: same. Those bags of salad that do NOT contain lettuce can be frozen and used in stir fry or soups. (Mostly kale and cabbage and veggies) Also, if you have a farmers market near by.... You should check with your local DHS to see if you qualify for help with a bridge card. (Bridge cards have a sister program called “double up bucks” in many areas. They match amount from your card for fresh veg etc. also food producing plants. Local state products) Please call 211 💟 They were able to guide me to local programs that have been super helpful 💜 they have fresh farm to table boxes and pantry items boxes available. Even cleaning supplies can be requested~ Some will even deliver to your door if you have transportation issues. Imperfect Foods offers lower income seniors 30% off (contact customer service) Delivered to your door. Know your pricing to know what’s a good deal Also use the fetch app.... I might eat out once a year. So I prepare and cook everything I eat.... my leftovers become freezer meals for when I’m too tired to cook. I make more than one serving when smart and portion the rest for later. Hope this helps you 😉

I moved from a smaller town in Texas with several discount grocery stores including Aldi and HEB to Colorado where they virtually don’t exist. The prices on everything here are so expensive and even the “discount” stores are marked pretty high. Walmart is the cheapest here. I miss those kinds of hauls! I used to love grocery shopping for deals!

i love to elevate my ramen with like a fried egg, maybe some frozen wontons that you can cook with the noodles, got a huge bag of chicken ones from costco, and the chili flavor ones are so good!! i bet if you google some toss in ideas to make it more filling it'd be real yummy!!

I always try to add an egg, egg drop style, to my Chicken flavored ramens. Just stocked up on canned chicken for the summer, too. Just recently bought some Chili flavored ones a couple of shopping trips back. Never noticed that flavor before. Haven't tried it yet, but glad to hear you like it. I will probably add beans and corn to that one.

Christine! Never let the joke go! Never let go! I am seriously envious of your WinCo and Fred Meyer. I'm in Michigan and we have neither. If I ever saw Honeynut Cheerios for .98 I would actually faint. Also LMAO at 'There are two types of people in this world: those who bribe their kids and those that lie about it'. I don't have kids but I have been known to bribe the nieces and nephews with all manner of food. Sometimes you just gotta do what works.

Canned pumpkin was on extreme sale recently at our sams club, so my cousin and I stocked up big time. People were all “ whatcha gonna do with that? “ “you must love pie” our family has judged us to for stocking up on various things. She has 3 kids and a husband. I have 2 kids, one is a hungry teen, my husband and my grandfather.

Hey Christine! I know that some may chuckle about explaining how to freeze some things but to some of us (me included) that was a foreign idea. We grew up with mom having to buy the exact amount of groceries needed for the week because our household was on a strict budget and also food stamps. Even if something was on sale we didn’t always have it I’m in our budget to buy extra for the freezer so I honestly didn’t even know that you could freeze a lot of food like bread or lunch meats. It wasn’t until I got older and that our family had more income that we even bought a separate freezer and had extra food to freeze. So I know some may chuckle, even I do now, but just be aware that their are some people who grew up with a different level of food availability that may not know that freezing bread is even possible. Thank you for your video content! You are fun to watch!

@@HeatherLynseyMusic weeell, I rather choose to save on something that doesn't come from animals and then buy more expensive eggs or meat. Your comment really only shows that you don't know anything about the poultry industry. And no, I am not a vegetarian, and yes, if you are struggling financially of course you do what is neccessary to get by. But if you can afford Starbucks, you can afford to buy eggs from chickens who aren't horribly mistreated.

Excellent deals! I'm jealous of the bakery thrift store. We had one next door to our apartment that we enjoyed, sadly the whole chain closed. I miss popping in to ask "what do you have today?" and the very nice chatty cashier would point out the best deals. And she would toss in a few extra freebies if I shopped right before closing.
