I have always loved and preferred long hair on a man. It looks great! Thank you! I learned watching. My son is 22 and has gorgeous thick curly hair and even though I don’t cut hair, I learned to cut his. We’ve varied the length (never a buzz cut), from below the ears -a little more Timothee Chalomet-esque-to very long, over the years. His hair is so thick, heavy and very curly so I have to be super careful not to cut too much because when a little weight comes off it will “boing” up quite a bit.” I knew how to snip into the ends (just from watching my own stylist cut my hair) but it helped to see how you thinned out the middle section in the back. Also, it never occurred to me to cut little sideburns. I’m in the US but I wish we could come across the pond and let you get your hands on his hair-which is beautiful and I’m sure has so many options. I have taken him to get professional cuts a few times, but have never found anyone that could do it better than I do, I suppose just because I know his hair. (I will say, I’m an artist so sometimes it’s a bit more freehand like I’m trimming a bonsai… haha, but that seems to work well.)

I’m a woman with wavy hair, fairly thick. Almost all trained beauticians have NO CLUE how to cut, much less STYLE it. It takes an exceptionally well trained and experienced barber to handle curly or even wavy hair! This was a marvelous cut & style!

I agree, I have curly hair but it's quite fine and prone to frizz or fluffiness, especially in damp weather. I've had issues with hairdressers taking too much off or not really understanding curl patterns. It makes me anxious to get it cut.

Great video. Interesting to hear why Dan is growing out his hair because mine is exactly the same reason. Turning 40 next year so I wanted to have longer hair for the first time since the late 90s. Had a number 1 all.over in April and then a tidy up on the back and sides in June. Nothing since. I'm defo in the awkward stage right now and I've been tempted to get it cut but staying strong for now.

Dan, how do we research barbers in our area? I have been watching your vids for one or two years now and I don't know how to research barbers who specialize in men's medium length haircuts. Men's salons/barbers are all fades and women's salons that offer men's cuts only show women's hair. I grew my hair for 8 months and went to a very expensive stylist and he chopped my hair off after asking for texture and shape. Literally, he cut 5 inch sections down to 1 inch.

To get that curl pattern back: brush a curly hair approved conditioner through in the shower and scrunch it to form large clumps when rinsing then add Curlsmith in-shower style fixer and use a micro fibre towel to get the moisture out 👌🏻
