So happy to see this video,such a stunning selection of colours.You really do have a real gift for selecting your colours to create the palettes.Some of the colour names are just delightful like 'Hippo Skin Purple' makes me think of the dancing hippos in the disney animation Fantasia. I love the fact these beautiful colours are created by artists,they are like little treasures. I loved the 'Tiffany' colour and the metallics am sure will look amazing in your nightscapes palette and in the paints created with it.The swatch book also looks amazing and is a great reference you can come back too. I found myself tryig to picture the amazing paintings you wil create with all these colours and sense you expanding your colours will change your work and take you in new creative directions which is exciting.Look forward to seeing the other palette videos that will follow this one but also to seeing the future paintings you will create with them. It's lovely to get to go on this new journey in your work through these videos you share with us and to be inspired on our own journeys. I still think you should look into working with a handmade paint maker to create./curate a palette of colours because I just know if you did it would be stunning palette to own,with your real eye for putting colours together it would be something really special. And I think I will look into getting some handmade watercolours myself,having seen how amazing they are through your videos.

It's an exciting journey, this art malarkey, isn't it?! It's so lovely to have you all coming along with me for the ride! I'm watching this over a year later... I'm in the U.S. too. I've ordered handmade wcs from Etsy and gotten some from the UK and from Spain. So much fun to get these little treasures! Mostly I've gotten mine from the U.S., but I find that shipping from UK to US is very affordable, but I guess not the other way around. I too am late to watching this. I'm eagerly awaiting my order from KWARTS. I find that to make the shipping worthwhile I need to order a certain amount. Shipping costs are brutal everywhere and they make it difficult for artisans to sell their goods. It's such a shame because I'd love to buy a pan or two from various makers but the shipping costs make it prohibitive.

Thanks for sharing this Natasha. I think it would be very beneficial for both sellers and buyers to have the option of buying dot samples at affordable prices. Handmade watercolours can be more expensive than Daniel Smith or Schmincke and sometimes they are not what we expect because the pictures of the swatches are not the best or colours even change depending on our devices just to give an example.

I know! I love neon pink but neon colours are never lightfast - they're pretty much the most fugitive of all paints. Hello, thank you for the Video, from your oppinion, whats the biggest difference from big brand wc like Dainiel Smith, Senelier , Schmincke, Qor etc with hand made artist? Are the quality are better? Im interested is some of them on etsy, but its so hard to find the reviews of them, and some of the price tag for a halfpan are to high for my wallet (98$ for 6 halfpan😳)
@NatashaNewtonArt3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I would say that the handmade paints feel different - they seem to take a little longer to rewet sometimes (although the same could be said for certain pigments from the larger brands) and the texture varies more than it would do with the mainstream paints. But they feel so special when you're using them! They smell amazing (due to the clove oil used in them), and the colours seem unique and, to me, just so beautiful. I also love supporting small businesses! $98 for 6 half pans does seem expensive - I haven't seen any that cost that much! But you do usually pay a little bit more for handmade paints; I guess because of the labour-intensive process of making them.

Handmade watercolors really do open up a whole new side of watercolors 🌈. I am wondering though, when you buy handmade watercolors, do you use them in your professional art as well? I don't know much about them but how would you go about finding information on their pigments and lightfastedness? (like the pink and iron colors you showed). On another note, I don't know how you resist the urge to open and swatch all of them the minute you get them lol
@Vanitasmortedigital3 жыл бұрын
On the Etsy shops that the handmade watercolour sellers have, most of them do have information about the pigments and binders they use in their paints and lightfast information as well, and when you order from them they also send this information with the paints too,they also all have contact details so you can ask any questions you may have about their paints. I found when I asked questions via their email or contact platform the sellers/makers were happy to answer them.Most of the handmade colours would be classed as artist's quality,and some may not be but sellers have all this information on their Etsy shops.
@MayMay003 жыл бұрын

@@MayMay00 Find a shop on Etsty from a maker you are drawn too and order a small set or maybe order the three primaries and see how you get on with them.This way you can improve your colour mixing and try out the handmade paints.These paints do cost a liitle more,but it's because of the pigments used in them and binders plus the makers time too.But you know you will be getting a good qaulity paint made with a genuine love for the craft by the maker/seller.

Hi, how long is handmade watercolors shelf life is? Do they not get spoiled after just a few years or months?
@NatashaNewtonArt3 жыл бұрын
All paints will have a shelf life to some extent, but watercolours seem to last a long time in my experience, and I can't see why handmade watercolours wouldn't be the same if looked after well. Just always be sure to leave your palette open for a little while so that the paints can dry fully after you use them! This way you won't have a problem with mould and they should last longer.
