Fantastic video! I love book hauls but I rarely see old school horror novels being shown. It’s a breath of fresh air so keep ‘em coming! Lol I hope you like Fear Street and Stine’s other teen horror. If you don’t dig the Fear Street Sagas as much, definitely keep an eye out for his regular Fear Street books. I like the Saga but they’re very different from the original series. Fear Street books are definitely getting harder to find though. They used to be everywhere a few years ago but not so much anymore. Occasionally I’ll run into a bunch but not often. It’s sad. Lol I’ve never heard of Naked Came the Sasquatch but I would have snatched that up too! Great title. Lol

I'm going to keep trying for the early Fear Streets, but may need to check em out on Kindle (or resort to ebay lots).

Nice pickups! If you're ever in Oregon, you can't go wrong with Powell's. They have more than one location, but the one in downtown Portland is basically an entire city block sized building of books. Some of the new books are pricey, but you can score great deals on used copies.
@AdamCesare7 жыл бұрын
I was in Portland (well, the outskirts) 3 or 4 years ago for Bizarro Con. It's one of my life's big regrets that I didn't extend my stat long enough to go to Powell's... :(

I'm always down for watching a horror book haul! I've been really getting into short fiction lately so I was excited that you showed some anthologies. I haven't read any of the books you bought so I can't tell you which ones are good. Now I really want to do some used book shopping. I'm blaming you! =P

I will totally own up to that blame! I'd encourage it even! I'm an enabler.

Best find: in Albuquerque, my wife found a decent but definitely well-read copy of the 2nd edition of Kathe Koja's The Cipher at a Salvation Army. Two days later, found a mint first edition of it at a different SA. I think they were a quarter a piece. That was a wild week.

I would say my best find was The Teratologist by Edward Lee and Wrath James White (crucified fetus cover), signed, for $7.00. Also, I met Whitley Strieber, at the local Borders. Had him sign a copy of Communion, which i no longer own.

I went to a 2nd & Charles book store with 3 used books I wanted to buy written down on a piece of paper. They didn't have any of them. I decided to glance in the free bin outside the store and found a first edition hard cover of Tabitha King's Small World with the dust jacket. Guess what one of the books on my list was? Apparently, they turned up their nose at it so I got it for free. Talk about a one in a million chance of that happening. That's my favorite find. If you're interested, I posted a pic on Twitter today of all the used books I've found in the last three months.

Some of the best stuff I've found at stores has been because it was either shelved in a bargain bin or because the owner didn't know what they had. Getting more difficult now that internet price guides are always just a google away. Headed to twitter in a few.

Hi Adam, found your channel while searching for some good horror book reviews, wondering how well you might know your horror authors, and the first one you mentioned is Charles L Grant!!! Nobody seems to talk about him anymore, and he's so underrated so I'm pretty stoked I've found your channel :)
@AdamCesare6 жыл бұрын
Hi Melanie, this makes me overwhelmingly happy. Welcome to the channel. New videos go live on Fridays (and sometimes sneak out Thursday) and all my movie reviews end with a book recommendation (so the book recs aren’t limited to my “book only” videos). I also write novels, stories, and comics, and offer a free sample of my work for newsletter subscribers. Related to Charles Grant: one of my best used bookstore finds was a copy of his anthology NIGHTMARES, signed, for about $2. Have a great day!

If your ever in Salt Lake City, Utah you have to go to Ebornbooks, its this massive 3 floor used book store, it's fun to explore the bottom floor is creepy, there was a section was closed off at points and the section with the foreign language novels had no lights but you could still go in. The one downside is it's owned by the mormon church so their more expensive books are mormon gospels, but it's a great place non the less.

Oh man, I always seem to learn about these places too late! I was in SLC a few years ago for a con (great town). Will need to remember this if I'm ever back.

Best horror score in the last year? I picked up a really nice copy of The Elementals by Michael McDowell at a thrift shop for $.50... a couple of weeks early I found a trashed reading copy of the same book at a different thrift store... my biggest score? I used to work in a library and the Friends of the Library had a recycle bin for books they didn't think would sell. I was allowed to search through it and found a nice paperback copy of Rage by Richard Bachman... At least lately I have had a lot better luck with library sales and thrift stores than used book shops..
@AdamCesare7 жыл бұрын
I only have Rage in one of the omnibus reprints. That IS a good score! Likewise, only have the Valencourt version of THE ELEMENTALS... which def wasn't 50 cents. I've got to go out on the hunt more.

booksalefinder dot com is a great way to find library and other book sales... also I always check the Sci Fi, Mystery and general fiction section for horror.. unless there is a horror section books can end up in any of those sections.

The best find I found in a used bookstore, was a signed copy of, Howl-o-ween by Gary L. Holleman dated 10/31/96

Got that same copy of Prime Evil new in the early 90s (yeah, showing my age here). Unfortunately, I no longer have it. I do still have my copies of Dark Forces edited by Kirby McCauley (gets my vote for being the supreme horror anthology from that era) and Cutting Edge edited by Dennis Etchison, which has not aged nearly as well as Dark Forces, in more ways than one (it is literally falling apart now). Another good anthology from that era is the zombie-themed Book of the Dead, edited by Skipp and Spector. My first exposure to Joe R. Landsdale.

Thanks! As far as vampires go I did a list a few months back with some off-beat recommendations, all are worth checking out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHmTZodtfL51sKM For werewolves, my colleague Matt Serafini is getting ready to relaunch his novel FERAL. Highly recommended if you like bloodier/more extreme takes on monsters. As of writing this comment, only the paperback is out, but the ebook should be later this week: amzn.to/2fyWVsE

for vampires, check The Strain trilogy by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan. It is way better than the TV show they made about it
