A team defends with 11 players not just the back line and our front line and midfield defend so poorly the opposition just run right through them and now at the defence. Our defenders havent been amazing but our defensive problems are mainly from the midfield, not the defence

Watching this a bit late. Great stream as always. There's only more more important thing than signing players and that is signing the right players. We can't afford buying these mid players and putting them on long contracts. They will not leave. So while I am desperate for new signings we can't afford to make mistakes. So, if we can't get proper top shelf quality then we have to be smart - sign young talented lads who can become top players or loan the likes of Douglas Luiz with a option to buy. Solid points mate, but I think City might have gotten the kick up the backside they need bc now there’s a serious threat that we don’t make top 4-5 to guarantee CL. If we don’t get that, it’s close to £100m in rev that the club count on, which won’t be there. There’s no time for f’ing about and getting project players like they’ve done in the past which haven’t worked. The margins for error are way too slim. That’s all an opinion and an observation, so I could be wrong. But i think we can all agree we don’t have the quality of team to play Peps tactics to get into the top 5. So either City splash big cash and bring in the player necessary to get us there OR Pep does a massive rethink of his system to accommodate for the players he has and maybe a few decent ones for Jan if the board don’t get ready made ones. Otherwise, no CL next season barring a miracale

@MCFCTheMadHatter I really think top5 is possible. Even with this current squad - If everyone was fit. But they're not. I definitily agree. That's why Id rather want us to loan Douglas Luiz than signing Ricci. But some project players are just diamonds in disguise and if you're good at scouting you could bring in young talents that's ready to perform. But again, that's very difficult and it's a huge risk. And are we willing to bet the clubs future? I'm not. I want proven players this January. Yes and tbh I do think Pep would have an easier time changing the system if he knew he had the players available. Bruno G, Zubi, Baena, Wirtz type of quality. I really hope to see 2 signings for the back, a cdm and a versatile cf/false 9. Idk if that's too ambitious. I just don't see Pep changing his system and if he won't do that then atleast want quality in there. We'll see very soon I guess.

Taking a step back, in order to get top 4 or 5 depending on PL coefficient, Pep will either have to majorly adapt his system to the players he has OR bring in some serious quality and then maybe he’d just have to tweak a few things. Anything less than that, I don’t see us getting into CL next season Regardless of what players are brought in, there has also been a fundamental shift in perspective from opposition teams: City are no longer scary and teams are good with committing players forward and attacking. Combine that shift in perception along with Pep’s absurdly high backline (let alone inverting one) and it is a pretty good explanation as to why we’ve conceded 28 goals in 14 games Yes having basically no MF doesn’t help either, which is even more the reason Pep must adapt the defensive setup bc at current levels, we need to score 3 goals every game to win. Over the last 14 games, we’re averaging 1.2 goals a game while conceding 2. We don’t have the attacks or creativity to get that done currently That’s an atrocious, relegation form ratio and screams that the defense woes must be addressed, yet Pep seems not to see it or really want to address it. Unless that ratio gets fixed, no chance making top 5 Which then brings us back to the Jan window. Do you think City will/can even bring in the necessary players to turn that ratio around assuming Pep doesn’t change the system? Not sure. Seems like a very tall order

@@MCFCTheMadHatter Defence has been leaking goals. I do think that a stronger midfield that connects everything will do so we win most games simply by outscoring our opponents. But honestly our defence has been horrible aswell. We all knew how important Rodri was but who could have seen us leaking goals like that. It's shambolic. To me our weaknesses are obvious. Teams outrun our midfield and our defence is leaking goals. Football is a weird game like that. We can seem to vulnerable and weak, but if we adjust "small" details we can improve alot. This highline isn't a bad thing, if we had the players to play that. And it just all brings me back to the same conclusion: We need to sign players. A highline like that with fast pacy wingbacks and a enforcer like Bruno to break counters would be deadly... I don't doubt we'll sign someone. But if i'm honest this can go really good or really bad. Clubs are not willing to let their best players go and especially not in the middle of the season, so we'll have to pay and the City board hate overspending. Chances of us getting proper quality for a fair price is what worries me. Idk, I just pray the club pulls something out of nowhere

I have a theory regarding why we haven't bought players this summer (appart from Savinho). It has to be related to the 115 charges : I can imagine a scenario where the PL told City to lay low on the transfer market, maybe fall off the top for some time, in order for the heat to cool off a little bit. Then again, many top PL teams didn't spend much last summer, so it could just be that the league is enforcing FFP rules very very tightly this year as opposed as in the past. In hindsight, City should have sold a bunch of players after the Treble and brought in new ones, but I totally understand why they didn't. I sincerely thought we could run it back, and even though the season was disapointing in the end, we were close to a double (FA Cup final) and we lost on penalties to Madrid in the Champions League. We were so close, yet so far and it cost us in 2024. Had Oscar Bobb not broken his leg, the loss of Alvarez wouldn't have hurt as bad. Not having a backup plan for KDB and Rodri was criminal - it was a matter of time before KDB became a part time player and before Rodri suffered a major injury after playing all these minutes for club and country. How this season pans out will reste greatly on how McAtee does. He can persuade the club to move on from some of Pep's aging warriors (Bernardo, Gundo, KDB) and entrust the youth along with some signings. 2025 will be mad interesting - the club is at a crossroads after a historic run. Can it reinvent itself and expand its prime? We are about to find out. Need top 4, a deep CL run and an FA Cup. If we can manage to do this, I'm not worried we will reload and be back. If we fall short of top 4, exit the CL and the FA Cup early, I fear for the future of the club

I find it fascinating that LB & Nobbins have not breached the idea of playing a more conservative defensive setup compared to suicidal one we play now. Yes the MF leaving the defense exposed is a major issue, but if we know that’s the case, and we can’t press well as a team anyway, then it begs the question: why are we playing such a high backline while inverting 1? Would it not make more sense to drop the line 10-20 meters and play a flat back 4 so the defense won’t be on the back foot in every transition? Many of the bozo episodes have also been caused by forced defensive errors aka defense on the back foot under massive pressure. This seems to be the easiest and most obvious thing to address to at least stop or slow down the rate of conceding so many goals. Yet Pep does nothing and it seems few fans are discussing it. Why?
