Only just seen your video so don't know how you got on with breeding whiptails but the male normally stays over the eggs about 2 weeks fanning oxygen on them. Once they hatch the fry just lie about not eating and die after about 3-5 days. The only ones I found (out of about 240 a fortnight), that survived would be attracted to a couple of cherry tomatoes cut in half placed at the bottom of the tank. Cucumber slices were also popular but made the water cloudy. I used to get about 12-15 fry to survive over two weeks using the tomato technique then drop catfish flakes in as they got bigger, they grow very slowly and will take upto 18 months to be strong enough to sell after that. Hope this helps

I breed hillstream loaches they spawn for me about almost every evening the biggest advice I can give is have a gravel substrate I use to keep them one sand as well but as soon as I made that change I triggered them to spawn occasionally I like to add spurlina in the water as well that can trigger them to

What kind of gravel did you use?

When I catch bristlenose fry, I lay the net down with pleco wafers in it. Walk away for 30 minutes. They find their way into the net.

I enjoy seeing your progress. It’s encouraging to see an intelligent young man step off and be self employed! Congratulations May I suggest that you invest in a black curtain to hang behind your self when videoing a tank? This will lill distracting reflections and showcase your beautiful fish better!

Things don’t always go as planned but you’ve learned so much through trial and error and some things just happen out of nowhere (like a dear pleco hurling itself out of the tank). I’ve bred mollies and guppies and other fish and I made a huge mistake when I forgot to put the foam filter on the end of the intake so that fry wouldn’t be suctioned up into the filter. Lesson learnt for sure.

That should have been a given!!! That’s a mistake that shouldn’t have happened!! We humans are smart enough to know that a filter will suck up fry!!! You are forever known as the “fry slaughterer”!!!😆😆 A mistake keyed down to laziness!!!🤣 But seriously, if you forgot about using a pre filter on your intake line, then I don’t think your cut out for breeding fish!! Because, not putting a prefilter sponge on the intake of a filter that’s in a tank with fry is not very bright!!! And should have immediately been dealt with. Sry, I just had to lay into with this!!! You killed innocent lives due to lack of thinking!!! 😆😆😆🤣 Take care Fry Slaughterer!!!!😳🤔

Damn! At least it wasn’t your fault about the royal whiptails. Glad to hear your success with the peppermints and cpd’s. I’m sure Next batch of whiptails will be a success, and keep up the amazing work Nick! Good luck with the Hillstream Loaches too! Have a great day! 👍

Yeah those blue valves are hard to dial in. Even fully closed they still let air out. Keep at it bro! 😁👍

Male hillstream loaches are much flatter and have little fences on the front, whereas females can be very plump vertically. Also, the male's bristles are called odontodes as far as I know.

I have a fish room similar to yours, I don't have 1 plastic air control valve, they are all unreliable... I have all stainless steel valves ,had them for years, never once had a issue with one yet... I got them from OZAQUA..Tasmania.... they are expensive if you're only buying a couple, but if you are buying hundreds like I did, they work out to be just over a $1.00 each...

I have the same problem with those cheap Chinese valves. #crapmadeinchina Maybe try a 10% bleach solution on the spawning mops to kill the Planaria then wash them well afterwards to remove any bleach residue. Always great stuff, Nick. ~Ron

The Ziss air valves are awesome! I gave up on the cheap Chinese ones like that years ago as I kept having exactly the same problem. With the Rainbow fish have you tried feeding heavily with live brine shrimp every day?

If everything is just so annoying, why are you doing it? Sorry, but not much of an inspiration for new fish breeders if it told to us that is so annoying and super frustrating
