The glass insulators used to be used on top of electrical poles back in the day. They are actually quite collectible. I have a bunch of the green and some of the white ones that I use as decor just because they are so pretty. I've turned them upside down, put wire around them and put a tealight inside and they are so cute.

I'm happy to have found your channel. I have been wondering what happened to all the chamberpots. I mean everyone had them. I used one at my grandparent's farm until 1961. We used the outhouse during the day but the chamberpot at night. I think mostly they were thrown away. I can imagine our ancestors laughing about us collecting them and placing in our hutches. Wonderful scores and your enthusiasm is infectious.

With IronStone, once you really get into it…you’ll know when you see it across the store. But more importantly, how it feels. Not light like plates now. It has some weight to it. Now, my personal preference is I want the STAMP. I do have a couple pieces that aren’t stamp but look exactly like pieces I have with stamp. Also, there is a pattern in Pfaltzgraff that looks like IronStone. Pfaltzgraff does have some Pieces that were made from IronStone. You really can’t go wrong with WHITE dishes. Timeless. No matter your “style” .Happy shopping or really happy hunting
@genevievelynn7372 жыл бұрын
Yes I am learning slowly but I totally agree with you. I want the stamp too!! When I’m out antiquing, I will pick up a lot of Pfaltzgraff thinking that it’s Ironstone.. some pieces look really similar! Love to hear from you Kathy 💛💛

Your squat one handled pots are chamber pots, they went under beds for middle of the night runs, so you didn't have to go to the outhouse. There are tons of platters out there, some have colored bands. With your insulator, you can do a million things with them, google it, lots of hanging lights out there. Great tip for dirty narrow necked bottles is denture tablets. Drop a couple in, fill with hot water and let sit, they get a lot of gunk out.

Genevieve! I love your antiques haul.. and you always make me laugh! Especially the 1617. And I'm like you if I don't pick something up I will think about it for years ...and I'm much older than you so I'm thinking about things from way back! The round Ironstone pots with the one handle are chamber pots and they were kept in bedrooms and sometimes you can find them with covers. I sent away for one once on eBay and it came broken and I loved it so much ...she reimbursed me ... and I lovingly took forever but put it together piece-by-piece like a puzzle! They're fun to have but please, never serve anything in it! LOL🤣. The first pitcher was very very pretty. I might start collecting Ironstone it's very pretty and I love it being simple and elegant. So sweet to see your little kitties sleeping so peacefully. You would be so much fun to go antiquing with! And of course I just want to say every time I see it I love your new Hutch it's gorgeous and well worth the wait. Thank you for including us on your treasure hunt. Sending love hugs and blessings. Oh and one last thing... I also love when I bring things home washing them with soap and water and getting them sparkly clean and ready to display I think they look so much prettier. 💗 .....Linda

Magic eraser works really well on old dishes too. If they are stained in places you can pour bleach onto the surface and let sit, it will work its way under the crazing and take away the stain. It may look wet for a few days but that will go away. Can you tell I have collected a few dishes in my time??

I am almost 62 years old and I remember learning how to sound out words by phonics syllables and we went to a neighboring towns festival and we had to park out of town in a field, but we went by an old roadside filling station and there was a very large sign that said ANTIQUES, I asked my mom what the sign said and she said "try tp sound it out" so after looking at it, I said "AN'-TI CUE ( as in pool cue) mom kind of chuckled and said it is the last 2 letters are silent, and the TI makes a long e sound, tray again" so I looked and said antique, I asked if we could go in and she said :yes" so she gave me a quarter and told me I could make a purchase, I looked and found a small basket with tiny broken or damaged things in it, I found a crystal individual salt cellar that was chipped and had a crack in it and paid for "my treasure". I stil have it floating around somewhere to this day. I was 5 yrs old when I made my FIRST antique purchase,,,,

Those one handled pots are early toilets that were kept in the bedroom to use at night to avoid trudging outdoors to the outhouse at night. I’m glad you realized that insulator wasn’t a flower frog, and that the galvanized watering can wasn’t from 1617 🤣 it is probably from the late 40’s or early 50’s. Plus that square spout isn’t original. That is a nozzle you would put on a garden hose. Someone probably put it in there because the nozzle for the watering can had either been damaged or lost. You made some amazing finds. 😊

I am obsessed with your haul. I am ironstone crazy and have a good collection myself. I found some very crazed and discolored plates today with scenes on them at a St. Vinnies thrift. My last Pfaltzgraff Hertiage find was a large soup tureen for $7 at GW. I almost died!! It was on the last shelf I checked before leaving. I also found the matching coffee pot at an antique mall for $24. So, I understand the difference in pricing issue. Lol And yes, I am a weirdo that loves to clean my items.
