Logic has been getting free updates for more than 10 years. Studio One is not even close in value and this announcement is, in reality, a 2.5 price increase for the core DAW. We used to pay the same price every 2 and a half years, give or take, to have the latest version, all updates included. Now you'll have to pay yearly if you want to update. This is NOT an improvement. Plus, IMO PreSonus add-ons suck in comparison with Logic's, and I don't even use those - third party stuff is almost always better

Nooooo. Stay away from that Frankenstein. Believe me, I tried the switch to CuBase. I immediately needed help from tech and it went on for over a week. It couldn’t even open its own VST’s that were fully functioning in Studio One. If anything, go over to Logic.

as far as I understood them, with your perpetual licence you'll get new features only for one year. next year's updates you'll have to pay for ($150). that to me looks like a hybrid, kind of a subscription plan, and I'm not still sure I'm liking it

I don’t like it either. I’m used to paying $150 every two or three years for the perpetual license, which is a kind of subscription. But at least now, no matter what option you choose, you don’t lose access to the pro features if you stop paying.

Will wait until October 6th and decide then what to do. SO6 first release didn't inspire much as carried on broadening its scope rather than focusing really on any big MIDI enhancements. Upgraded when Dolby Atmos was added. What we need clarity on is bug fixes. If you buy a year then miss 6 months before buying a second 12 months will you still receive bug fixes during that 6 month window. Or do you have to subscribe continuously? It's not a brilliant proposition as I used to pick up the new version 6 months late when they dropped the price. So torn whether to start considering Cubase instead. Like you say unless SO guys release some really good features every few months people will start to drop off. So guess we wait and see.

For *149* I was able to upgrade to your latest version of Studio One (version 7) Producer edition. I've used Studio one once in a while as I have the lite version of your software. Your upgrade applies to even those who have the liter/free with hardware purchase version. I purchased your ATOM controller a few years back and it came with a free copy of your DAW I was shocked that a known DAW company would give upgrades from any version, much less at his price and even further less for their top of the line version. Ableton, which I was a confirmed user of, wants *369* for their Standard and *649* for their suite. Been using Studio one for the past couple days since upgrading.... I'm switching.

I suspect the thrice yearly New Features end up being "Optional for a price" and made by Presonus, much like the 40 Euro "Harmony Wizard by Lucas", and the yet to become into being yearly "Update Subscription", which is what it is, will only be dealing with basic bug fixes and very minor additions. I might end up doing what others have done who have seen this coming, and move to Cubase, these changes seem like a move by Fender to gradually emulate Adobe's business model, and we all know how much loved that is.

You will only get the full suite of plugins with S1 Pro. However, if you want the additional bonus loops and sound libraries then you will have to get S1 Pro + subscription.

Harmony Wizard is a paid third-party add-on, like a loop pack, or virtual instrument preset pack. Nobody expects those to be bundled with the main product. As I understand, Lukas Ruschitzka spent his own time creating this amazing tool and wasn’t paid by PreSonus. I don’t consider it to be a money grab for him to be paid for his excellent work.

Interesting... It's WAY too bad for prime... they should keep, maybe even strip down a little more. But providing the perpetual license users all of the things the subscribers were previously given is GREAT! Paying chunks up front and upgrading is like an more vested upgrade map, we SHOULD get more than the monthly subscribers. I LOVE this move. ***Edit*** I also do NOT want them to destroy the DAW merely to add more stuff.... An overly packed kitchen is an inefficient and often sloppy kitchen.

Here's what I think is pretty fair. Studio One Pro just makes it easier for PreSonus to just have 1 version as it will allow them to just move it without focusing on three. I won't be surprised if they will have Studio One 6 Artist offered indefinitely with the option to upgrade for a discount to Studio One 7 Professional. That said, Studio One Pro is still a really good deal, and Artist was at the time somewhat overpriced, while Prime was fantastic. Studio One Prime is what got me started. I other thing I can think of is that Studio Magic still offers Abelton Live Lite, so they might use that as a way to offer something as it's still a crazy good price. The other things I am thinking of is that they might have people go for Audacity which is barebones but supports VST's so unless you need what Arist needs, it can be done in Audacity.

After going back and forth with them, they said that when my current subscription expires, the Studio One+ that comes with the HD2 will kick in, which would cover me until 2026.
