Huge pallet fire seen from miles on Chicago's West Side

A massive fire broke out on Chicago's West Side Tuesday evening. The fire broke out in the 2000 block of West Hubbard Street in the West Town neighborhood. The Chicago Fire Department said pallets at a building supply warehouse were on fire.

I work right across the street. I saw it slowly get bigger and left when I heard small explosions coming from the flame. From the size and quality of the flame id hypothesize some pallets might’ve ignited due to the heat, and possibly caught the gas line on fire or knocked down a power transformer. Hope everyone is safe, especially the two German shepherds that are usually in that lot 😞

This fire is massive. I saw it all the way from my apartment and I live a 30 minute walk away. I can still smell all the smoke in the air.

@@guybeingaguy I did not, I mostly saw people stopping to stare and take pictures. In hindsight it was probably really stupid of me to see a fire that was obviously massive and walk closer to investigate.

My friends mom took me and my friend yo soccer practice and when we were driving we seen smoke and it was crazy and when we were at the soccer practice it was so big and I kinda felt hard to breath cuz I could smell the smoke

I was at Ashland and Division and the smoke was so huge it looked like it was only a block or two away. I went all the way to Damen and Chicago and I still wasn't at the source.

It's a 5-11. 4 months ago they had a huge fire at Hubbard and Oakley. This is at Hubbard and hoyne.

Someone smoking? Years ago I loaded at a refinery/ tank farm, gas, no smoking signs all over, someone put a 50s style ash tray on legs in middle of road, wasn't funny
