A little explanation and some background info about Danse Macabre: The name of the attraction is the name of the song that's being played. It used to be the song that got played in the predecessor of Danse Macabre, Spookslot (Ghost castle). The cat is known as "The unnameable (evil)", which is basically a demon that doomed Joseph Charlatan and his orchestra into haunting the abbey the attraction is located in (which is also why the ride vehicle seats are pews). This cat appears throughout the themed area "Huyverwoud"(Shyverwoods). His "innocent form" is that of a little black cat with one yellow and one blue eye. He roams around the area trying to lure people into his demonic clutches basically. Fun little tidbit: in the missing person cabinet there's a poster with an opera singer called "Cathérine Arbuste", who actually uses sign language in her moving poster. Also as you correctly mentioned, this is a reference to Kate Bush, who once recorded a video for "Wuthering Heights" inside Spookslot and actually had her own "dancing gravestone" inside that attraction.

I was coming here to say that the composition was Danse Macabre, Op. 40 by Leopold Stokowski, I love this ride, the cat's eerie meowing at the beginning sets the mood perfectly
@Wrecker3D
@Wrecker3D Ай бұрын
The cat transforms into his evil form as the lighting strikes the heap of instruments (you also hear one strike in the cemetery part of the queue during the storytelling, as that happens a strobe light on the outside of the building simulates the strike -best seen after dark of course) When this happens kitty also lets you hear it's unhappy with the moan-like meow then you hear the doors slam shut as it darks out and the benches get turned to face the organ as the ghost of Joseph Charlatan appears, from there on the musical piece takes over. At the end, before you drop down and the ride calms down to it's zero point you hear 'Vade Retro' been spoken, this phrase was/is used for exorcism, at which point the cat is it friendly (but deceivingly) self again, and you exit through the souvenirshop Backstory: The whole themed area is run by family of Joseph Charlatan, they followed his trail to find out what happened and ended up at the abbey after a journey all over Europe (with the 'help' of their enchanted/cursed street organ _'Esmeralda'_ ) The main characters Otto & Virginie Charlatan (who look like they're from the 1800's) walk around (and have small shows with the organ during the day) to 'warn' you for the abbey and the evil within as they experienced the curse and survived (only just). They settled in the area, set up a grocery in the former tavern, 'In den Swarte Kat' (In the Blacke Cat¹), a 'fast food'/snack stall in 'Het Koetshuys' (The Carriage Stalle¹) which sells spooky cotton candy/candy floss and popcorn, and 'Dr. Chartlatans Kwalycke Zaken' (Doctor Charlatans Quackery Busineses¹) which is the souvenirshop in the abbey itself ¹= Names are misspelled on purpose, as if they were setup in the 1800's when language was still old fashioned, but not too different of modern spelling -hope you catch my drift BTW: you can film on-ride but only with the cam securely fastened, this is mainly because they don't want to shutdown the ride because your cam/phone ended up under the ride in 'the catacombs'. Best to prevent those things... Fun Fact: The Pianist in the 'Cabinet der Vermisten' (Case of the Missing) poster, down to the right, is the designer of the ride: Jeroen Verheij

As a Dutch person it makes me so happy to see you give the Sprookjesbos the time it deserves! :):) I also appreciate that you approach the fairytales with an open mind. That you can acknowledge that the fairytales are a bit darker and different from the American versions you know from back home, but that you're open to it nonetheless. I always appreciate such openness in people! I have such fond memories of Sprookjesbos, from being there as a child. I think from the whole of the Efteling, Sprookjesbos (and Droomvlucht!) speaks to a childs heart the most. It illicits a sense of being in a different world. Which, for a child, is so deeply captivating. Even as an adult, it captivates me. Maybe because I am still a child at heart :) Best wishes from NL! :)

The cat is the reason the orchestra died. It is actually a shapeshifting monster that killed them on friday the 13th. The ''alien encounter'' part of the ride is the demon form of the cat walking around the room. You still missed a lot of the fairytale forest. There are so many side paths to distract from the main route, but if you follow the signs, you can find everything. The Little Match Girl takes place on new years, not christmas. Fun thing about the Little Match Girl at Efteling is that is was designed by the same designer that designed Frozen Ever After in Epcot and Hong Kong. The 11% rule is something the Efteling gave themselves. Its not the local authoroties that made this rule and they could technically just ignore it, but they gave themselves that rule to keep the heart of the park intact; nature.

@22:50 The cat is 'het Onnoembare' in disguise, which would translate to something like 'the Unspeakable'. The Unspeakable is a demon (or maybe even the Devil?) that keeps the conductor and his orchestra (their souls actually to be more precise) captured in the chapel to play for all of eternity. So what you see/feel at the start of the ride is the cat transforming back to it's original form.

It looks like your musical journey through the castle ended on a positive note.. a snack bar🎶 The Danse Macabre seemed spooktacular: the famous de-composer Joseph Charlatan, the ride vehicle looking like classic theater seats and the haunted objects.. I want to go on it! 👻 Chris, the reason your carousel animal was smaller is because it was a quarter horse.. you should have grabbed a dollar horse. Oh, I wonder when this was recorded? We were at the Efteling for a couple of days this week, would have loved to have said hi! Looks like you guys had an amazing time, again. So did we. Isn't Dance Macabre just something incredibly special?? That ride has me in absolute awe in every possible way.

Very nice video! Small extra addition to the info about the carrousel. It is not steam powered anymore. It looks like that, but all is electric these days. The steam part you see is just esthetic. It was originally steam powered though...

About all the trees and parks in the Efteling. Regulations, set up by the park itself, is that only 11% of the total space can be build. Therefore to build more attractions the park has to grow in size. Or it can only replace attractions.

Hi Chris! My wife and I have so enjoyed your videos! We followed many of your tips when we recently went to Disney Paris! They were so helpful! And we agree, it’s the prettiest Disney park. Next month we are going to Amsterdam and have a free day. We saw your videos on The Efteling park and thought we should go. Can you recommend/suggest what would be the easiest and quickest way to get out there? Thanks for all your fun tips and videos! We are big fans and hope to meet you guys someday!

Take the train to "'S hertogenbosch" (aka 'Den Bosch'), then take the Eftelingbus right in front of the station. It will drop you of at the entrance of Efteling.

Disney visited the Efteling at the end of the eighties, trying to find some inspiration for disneyland paris. The story goes they really didn't like the "Carnaval Festival" but they were fond of the idea of taking a picture during the ride. And selling it. This is where Disney's photopass idea comes from. Just saw a in ride video of DANSE MACABRE. I was totally thinking Alien Encounter at the start but WOW. The music "Danse Macabre" was written in 1874 by French Composer Camille Saint-Saëns. What is cool about this ride is they can if they wanted to, choreograph the ride to other music. Immagine a Flight of the Bumblebee or Ride of the Valkyrie version.

The butter tastes different and better because in the Netherlands we don't throw in a lot of preservatives and other chemical stuff to keep the butter good for 23785756983 days, like in America :p and that also counts for all the food here :p
