(I shot this video a couple of months ago but haven't had much time for editing due to pressures of work - apologies if I don't get to answer comments on my videos now as my work load is crazy.) A quick video of the monstrous pump I have running the pond filter (next video will be on the air pumps I have installed) The pumps seem to be currently out of stock everywhere? That's a bit of a bummer as I recently lost the mesh part of the pump when I threw it back in. I didn't realize it had come off and the pump drew stones into the impeller destroying it and the internal body of the pump. I am now running the filter on an Aquamax 16000 which I had as a back-up pump. Damn....just as well I got the big pump at a good price or I would have wasted a fortune through that accident, lol Video with Evolve shower filter and Blagdon Amphibious IQ 12000 Pump (which feeds water to shower filters) : bit.ly/2t3N8OH Global Koi shower filter video: bit.ly/2UYv4AX Looking INSIDE filter media video: bit.ly/2KbOAGk All types of Biohome media and links to other distributors: www.filterpro.co.uk Blagdon Amphibious IQ 12000 pump: geni.us/9ByCf5F Hel-x 17 moving media: ebay.to/2UZk5aM Alfagrog (Amazon): geni.us/Il899 Alfagrog (Ebay): ebay.to/2zWrajj Hel-X 13 25 litres (Amazon): geni.us/3UBTi Hel-X 13 25 litres (ebay): ebay.to/2QPKiq6 Hel-X 17 (more suited to very large moving bed filters): bit.ly/2PBAOyn K1 standard size (Amazon): geni.us/zNFFaJ K1 micro 25 litres (Amazon): geni.us/byDQ K1 micro 50 litres (Amazon): geni.us/M7T2AH K1 micro 25 litres (ebay): ebay.to/2P5Flfv K1 micro 50 litres (ebay): ebay.to/2NFJ3YB Moving bed media (FilterPro): bit.ly/2NN1gU6 Vortex filters: bit.ly/2Mj7gYa 4" fittings: geni.us/nTQc9bw 2" taps: geni.us/OBXBGSI 8" diameter brushes: ebay.to/2OvMOkc Filter grids: geni.us/oqDBzT If you've enjoyed this video please check out the playlists on my channel for hundreds more - on a variety of subjects. Hi Pond Guru! Binge watching from Vancouver Island BC Canada🇨🇦❤ I came across your videos about 8yrs ago when I was planning my baby 1800gal pond🤪I fell in love with your pond tunnels!!! Made my version of it and basically built a 1ft raised pond with straight sides so no racoons or heron can bother, but a pesky otter has cleaned me out 2x b4 I figured out how to keep my fancy goldfish safe.(going on 3yrs with no otter attack). I sure wish I had gone the extra mile and did a bottom drain...grr. I finally bit the bullet and bought an oase filtoclear 4000! I remember being told that I should build the pond bigger than I want...oh how I wish I had listened!!!🤪🤣😂🤦♀️🤔🤯😁👍😍😘(ps: I have the room to triple it!!!🤪🤣😂)but will stick with enjoying my small pond...thank you for all your videos!!!

Question or maybe a suggestion about your pump location. do you plan to just leave it at the bottom? with such a nice big pond.. and what we we did in the past on a vacation lake house was set vertically a large round galvanized pipe. large enough to fit the pump down inside of it. but cut rectangle openings around it and weld metal mesh or expanded mesh. set it the deep end. have it extrude up past the water level about 10in. then have a mesh opening on the top that can be removable. build a small floating duck shack that slips around the pipe and floats over the pipe concealing it as the water level may adjust through the seasons. then get a dinging. which you probably already have. and just use it to check on the pump or maintenance. you could brush down the outside of the pipe every 6 months or so. you could set a shelf on the inside of this vertical pipe to set the pump on so it stay a few inches of the actual mushy bottom. this will prolong the pump life and maintenance. just a thought. awesome job on the mega filter.. you keeping the plastic tote idea? or converting them to a concrete bay system?
@BooBooBear4U25 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, glad to see you back! I have been watching your 'Mega Filtering System for your Fish Pond' video series. Have you considered shrouding your AUGA VARIO FLOW 30000 with an perforated cover to prevent silt, mud, muck and debris blocking the flow of your pump. It's an addition precaution and further help the pump to reach maximum efficiency. I know it had an mesh cover on it. But replacing the Mesh Cover and having a perforated plastic or stainless steal shroud cover over the entire pump would make it last longer and work a lot easier. Or at least I would think so. Just a suggestion. Good luck in your endeavors. 🐟

Nice video thanks for the time making it one thing don't pull it around and out by the wire its to bigger thing to do that it made me cringe please put a length of paracord on to it so you can pull it out anytime or you will have that wire snapped in no time. keep the videos coming hope you find the strainer basket
@petemcdonald88944 жыл бұрын
paracord on a pulley setup (one continuous loop on a pulley across the lake, then another attached to the pump passing loosely via a runner on the pulley)? Then the pump could be pulled and lowered into the centre. .... ok, toss it in :)

@markmmm17375 жыл бұрын
That pump definitely needs modifying. The filter mesh although quite large isnt really big enough (in my eyes any way). You also say it's a massive pump. My pond is 28,000 litres and it has an 18,000 litre pump on it. Youre pond/lake is making that pump rather tiny. Lol

The water in that damn pond STILL isn't clear? lol. Maybe it's time to use chemicals..pour an algaecide, or maybe Hydrogen Peroxide. Probiotics?. Did you ever try the bales of barley trick? People swear it clear up a green farm pond. I don't know if water is expensive in the rainy UK,but I would be tempted to drain that thing,and scrape out 2' of muck as last resort and fill with clear water....then go to barley.

Hooray!! More Mega Filter build! Even though I'll never be in a situation to need anything this big (or even 1/20th the size) I've really enjoyed seeing the methods used to separate the mock. You just don't see this sort of thing and ideas in an aquarium tank filter... or could you....? Vortex in a sump anyone? No, I didn't think so either :P

Don't forget to tell us what you are gonna do with the aquarium you wanted to incorporate into the filter system 😬

With the way you placed the pump in the water, what is stopping it sucking mud up. Surely it’s kind of just digging itself into a shallow/hole. Maybe placing it above the bottom, on plastic crates would help. Unless the lake has a solid base of course.

Its a very big filtrr for a big pond Pondguru! My valid concern is why would you put this big filtration into a mud pond? The fine mud particles will clog your pond up. Unless your future plan is to turn your mud pond into a concrete or Liner pond otherwise I believe its not a very good exercise in money management. Thumbs up if anyone agrees?

I can quite remember your sweater being white a few videos ago ;) good vids though, btw i see you are hunting low wattage components (pumps). (Like all of us). Have u ever checked "airlift" filtration? I think it would be an issue for u with your filters standing above water level, but low wattage for sure.
@Snoekvisser19725 жыл бұрын
Richard I have a question. With the pump off the bottom wouldn't it be more efficient? Suspending the pump on half water would reduce the amount of muck and sorts clogging up the filter. Looks like the pump is digging itself into the mud. Hope that makes sense. Love the pond series, thanks for sharing. Cheers!
@Sahadi4205 жыл бұрын
But I think you want the pump to agitate that stuff.......
@Snoekvisser19725 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. In a normal (koi) pond yes, but this is a natural body of water. Not sure about the soil, sand, clay or soft mud. I'm guessing the latter so keeping it off the bottom would reduce stirring up the mud and making the water cloudier. Just speculating here, hopefully Richard will chime in at some point.

For the pump it looks like they renamed their product - it may now be Auga Variflow 5 - this appears to have same stats as you mention i.e 30,000 lpm, 6m head, 5 - 440w @ approx £549. Maybe they come under Aqua Source product line now? Googled it image wise, I have a link for a supplier but haven't put it here).

Pondguro, from my experience, do not pull the pump by the cord. Tie a rope and then use that. I found out the expensive way that the cord could break. No one or fish was hurt in my case.

Hi, I was impressed by the specs of the Auga pump but I can not find the 30,000L/h VarioFlow E-30version anywhere in the UK. Did you get yours direct from Auga to review for "free"? Any help would be appreciated.
@pondguru3 жыл бұрын
Nope it wasn't free and the front fell off a few months after filming this video - the pump then drew stones in and destroyed itself so I have a new one now which is larger and from a different manufacturer. Apart from the weak attachment of the face of the cage surrounding the pump it worked very well (until it didn't)
@simonshaw51195 жыл бұрын
So it’s basically a DC pump then? I only ask as it’s very similar, just on a bigger scale. Adding that info would have helped I think. Thanks Richard. Always appreciated!

thats what I call a pond :) love your channel so much good advise , I've just got a oase BioPress 10000 and my only concern with the filter is the amount of bio media they give you 10 plastic coils? don't think this is nowhere near enough what would you recormend bio media for ponds ? my pond is 1100ltrs at the moment and lighty stocked .

Hi Richard.. I've missed you. It's wonderful to see you. That is one massive pump!! I do have a question... lots of farms around here have ponds like yours.. size wise. Pump sizes are a pain but at 400wats for full power on your pond may be by head and flow two pumps might be cost effective, I got similar pump and at about 50‰ flow it runs at about 90 watts . Never checked temp of inverter at low power as that kills them . I only offer unresearched idea as 400 watts eats power and might gain with 2 running at much less power
