Hey Jermey! Always great work! I do have an idea for you consider and also some math. The 9000gph return on the 3000 is probably running closer to 1800-2400gph with the pvc it’s plumed with. 1” pvc has a max flow rate of 3600gph at about 100psi. With the elbows and head pressure you’re getting less. If you were running 1 1/2 or 2” up to the tees you could get way way more flow. Also if you ditched the lock line and just returned the water with 1” pvc again you will get a ton more flow on that tank. Big pump big pvc! I’d consider trying that. Better on the pump and you’ll actually get closer to 9000gph. You’re at a fraction of that now. Love the videos and determination!
@AquariumDomain.Күн бұрын
I was incorrect on saying the pump was 9k gph, it is 20k liters per hour which is more like 5.4k gph, I think I was adding both pumps together to the get the 9k. I need to check to see if my return line is 1" or 1.25", for some reason I am thinking it was 1.25" as I had to go out and buy fittings...I usually have 1" in stock...but I will have to check.

To set up the hygger light for simple on/off, hold the bulb + gear icon until you see off, press up arrow until you see on and press gear icon. You will see L1 and a % brightness number, set this to desired brightness, set the desired on and off time, then press gear icon. You will then see L2, set this brightness to 0 and press gear icon, repeat setting brightness to 0 for L3-L8. This will set your light to your L1 setting brightness and start and end time. Good luck!
@AquariumDomain.5 күн бұрын
I really appreciate your reply! I should probably have stated that I am really looking for an always on light, with my timer cutting power to turn it off. My issue with the Hygger is that now instead of 1 timer for all of the lights I will have 5 timers, which unfortunately is an issue as the power company seems to have a lot more short power outages than ever before. I think my best bet (until I replace the Hygger lights) is to take them off my timer and run them in their 24 hr mode on their own power cord. If you know of a way to have the Hygger lights be always on, so that I can run them on a timer I would love to know. Otherwise it just seems too problematic with them forgetting their settings every time the lose power...which unfortunately is way more often than it should be...considering what I pay for electricity. 😊

Biotamada cupido or wavrini are the perfect small-medium size peaceful cichlid for your discus tank. I almost went to the OCA to look for some. Other possible option is ivanacara adoketa or bimaculata. I just bought 4 adoketas from a guy 1.5 hours away for a very good price. I put them in my 75g with the discus and red head tapajos I’m growing out. Day 3 and their colors are amazing and I think I may even be seeing a little breeding activity. They hang out at the bottom or around decorations so they seem to get on fine with the discus although they’re not full grown yet. So far they seem like bigger apistogrammas and they’re f1s from the rio negro so they should be fine with discus temps.

You’re right when the fall and winter approach you’ve got so many projects going on. The energizer bunny has nothing on you. Lol. If budget wasn’t an option great pumps to go with on that predator bay 3000 are the Panta Rhei Hydro wizards or the abyzz pumps. They turn an insane amount of water over. I’m curious to see what your evaporation rate is going to be on the predator bay as well as the estuary. I know you’re getting excited to get this tank online.
@AquariumDomain.5 күн бұрын
It has been a while since I looked at them, but I remember the prize of Abyzz pumps being shocking lol 😊 so I don't see them in my future. As far as evaporation...the main tank, estuary and sump will all have covers on them...so it shouldn't be too significant.

This was a massive update. Great stuff! How about Keyhole cichlids for the discus tank? They are larger than rams but smaller than many cichlids, and very peaceful. They are my favorite cichlid that I have ever kept. Have you ever tried a central american tank? You have big tanks and could do them justice, and maybe some swordtails as dithers. Also, do you find adding rock on top of the sand safe for those fish? Will they knock the rocks down that way? I have no experience with saltwater fish. You have your hands full with all these projects. Keep up the good work :)
@AquariumDomain.7 күн бұрын
Hey Phil! Lot's of love for the Keyhole Cichlids in the comments 🙂. I have done central american tanks in the past, but never one in a really large tank...in my opinion balancing a central american tank with many species would be one of the toughest tanks to pull off...I don't really have the right tank to do it in though currently...one of the 1200 gallons would have been good, but they are both spoken for 🙂

In the mangrove estuary, do you think a baby shark is small enough to explore through the return or possibly even get sucked in? You might need some sort of filter over the returns unless the baby sharks are big enough not to swim through and possibly get sucked in. 🤔 just a thought, not sure if this has crossed your mind.

Baby sharks would absolutely go right down that big 2" drain, I have strainers for it, just haven't put it on yet. I like to use the multi-tool on the strainer and make it more high-flow before I install it 😊

I have a ton of hygger lights. For being "smart" lights they are really stupid. I love them because of the color etc etc but every time the wind blows or power goes out... they reset. Mine do not honor on/off either. I am like this close to rewiring my fish room to have a 12v input so I can run all of my lights on a jackery power station to at least maintain integrity of the darn things not resetting on me every time. I have to go to every light and set the time again for them to work even on the 24hr cycle because otherwise they open full throttle. Maybe that is the work around... disconnect them from power... so they reset and add them to a wall outlet timer for on/off so they basically reset daily and are forced to be on/off.
@wabalaka15659 күн бұрын
Yeah them resetting randomly is the only bad thing about their light too. I use external timmer but the light is just stupid it doesn't remember the color settings. It drives me craY that they made such a good light but fk up usability part of the deal

I say this with sarcasm and disgust, pertaining to your nitrate problem. Years ago, my neighbor got this idea he was going to put a pond in his backyard. He knows nothing about landscaping, and even less about fish care. He got his disaster / pond finished (he was so proud of it even though it had many major flaws). A couple of weeks later I saw him dumping into the pond a pitcher of some kind of liquid then about an hour later he asked me to come over to help him figure something out, so I did. He was trying to figure out how to read the results of a test kit namely the nitrate levels, I noticed he didnt have any fish in the pond so I told him he needed to cycle the pond and how to do it, he told me he saw a video online how to cycle a pond without fish in it------ by adding his own URINE. 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 He killed fish all summer long, I don't think it worked. 😅🤣😂😆😁 he ended up tearing the pond out in the fall.
@AquariumDomain.8 күн бұрын
