I have a 40 gallon tank and I can't go to the pet store any more because every time I walk by the comets I feel like I need to save them. They all come up to the top of the tank all covered in disease. I now have 20 of them and I have to do 3 water changes a week to keep them happy. I know I will have to get them a huge tank eventually. I have one comet that I call Mr. Disease Fish, he was sucked onto the filter at Wal-Mart pretty much dead I asked if I could just take him and they let me. After 2 weeks of salt dips and medication he is as healthy as ever! I know my tank is crowded but the way I look at it they would be dead if I didn't buy them so crowded is better than dead.

Just showed this to my parents when they said the little feeder goldfish my sister brought home from the carnival (despite me always telling her not to bring home goldfish) didn’t need “anything bigger than a 5 gallon.” Our new house won’t have room for a tank of that size, but I hope to get the little guy at least a 55 gallon.

It is it really hits you when you have to bury your fish and you realize how long they survive and how big they can get im not going to say i was the best fish keeper and thats the reason it stayed alive i was lucky when i got it i was a kid i didnt know anything about keeping fish i even neglected common aquarist practices which i heavily regret not knowing how to maintain because of impulse buying and my parents were the same they didnt know enough about how to keep fish its not like keeping cats or dogs it requires real close observation i was really young and until i got older and realized that there was something wrong i decided to take action im ngl i was under prepared for how big my feeders got. I even had plecos the common ones they also got big and theyre still living now in a bigger tank 150 gal by themselves i had them in a small tank wit the goldies and it hurt me knowing they survived like that i believe it was love that kept them alive despite the neglect of not knowing i cared alot and i made a change and a oath to myself that never again will i be the uneducated half of the hobby fish deserve the same equal amount of care as you would any other animal you love

You should see my girl SaraH ! My sarassa! And my blackmoor ChubChub ! Beautiful fish !
I'm not sure if your fish is 16 inches. Are you counting the tail? Fish are measured by there body. As for your nitrate problem try adding pond plants like hornwort or brazilian penny wort. And she looks a little bloated try feeding her some greens like peas , asparagus tips , or spinach. You have to boil them all really well , oh and peel the peas they can't eat the skins.
