That's how my catfishing season got started last April. Only five minutes in the water, and landed an 18 pound channel catfish. April is a great month for channel catfishing.

Those were some good size catfish! Catfish are my favorite fish species to target because of the fights they put up, especially when they pull my kayak around while I reel them in. Fun times!

@dustinpfarr16017 жыл бұрын
Thundermist Lures This is probably a dumb question, but does the color of your fishing line affect the way fish target your lures and baits?
@thundermistlures7 жыл бұрын
Hi Dustin...actually a very good question....color of the line can make a big difference - for example, that is why I always use a fluorocarbon leader when using braided line, as fish can see the braid. There are also some funky colored monofilament lines, and in those cases, clear is best, followed by a green, such as a moss green :)
@dustinpfarr16017 жыл бұрын
Thundermist Lures Thank you, sir! So, a neon green fishing line is probably not the best choice since it is brighter?
@thundermistlures7 жыл бұрын
....correct....I would stay away from neon green line :) Line color does make a difference

I saw that you were holding the catfish various ways in this video. I never thought to hold one in the corner of th mouth as you did. I think it would be awesome if in each of your videos you would show how to hold the various fish you catch. It would definitely help me make sure the fish that I catch don't get harmed, nor the fisherman! GREAT video!
@thundermistlures7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback Arthur, and just remember, the corner of the mouth is o.k., but otherwise, the catfish do have sandpaper-like teeth in the mid section :) Sometimes I get carried away and let my finger slip, then I get cut by their teeth :)

@thundermistlures7 жыл бұрын
The Catfish model, T-Turn bait rig, comes with an octopus hook (rig# 7B), or with a circle hook (rig# 8B) On that day, I was using the octopus hook, but will also have an episode coming up using the circle hook...the hook sizes on both rig# 7B and #8B, is 5/0 :)

@thundermistlures7 жыл бұрын
The Pre-Tied T-Turn Catfish rigs, come rigged with the large size T-Turn, and that's what I was suing.....for Channel catfish, we suggest using either the medium or large size t-turns :)

Evo, this year has been a struggle for us. We fish the Erie Canal and we haven't gotten more than 2 channel catfish all spring using our normal array of bait (cutbait, chicken liver) last year by this time we had landed over 30 . What is our problem can you help at all?
@epicjason97 жыл бұрын
I fish the grand river every year and have never caught any channel cats :(
@thundermistlures7 жыл бұрын
This year is a bit different than last year, as the winter was abnormally warm - however, try using fresh cut bait if you can (i.e not previously frozen) and same goes for the chicken liver. Good luck out there :)
@bradsfishingnhuntin71697 жыл бұрын
Thundermist Lures Thanks and hope we can get into some nice cat fishing like you had . We have good luck on cut-bait, will have to get some soon and try that.

Awesome video!!!! I can't wait to hook into some Catfish, I know of one place they go to spawn in the spring but it's far from me Do You think they go into all the Lake Ontario Tribs to spawn? I'm looking for another place closer to target them I don't have much luck with the big ones until August and I don't want to wait that long
@thundermistlures7 жыл бұрын
Not sure if they go into all the tribs, but good chance they are in most :) For example, hamilton harbour would also be a good spot

@thundermistlures7 жыл бұрын
...we would love to Robbie, but the issue is that the camera would have to run for long periods of time which consumes battery life and also makes editing that much longer - sometimes though, it does work out with the hooksets, like for example in this episode...you will see steady hooksets :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4iVoJaGgN98l9U

Rather than putting the catch into the bag, wouldn't it make sense to just weigh the net and fish together? Less handling which would be better for the fish, the angler and the boat.
@thundermistlures7 жыл бұрын
Hi Don and thanks for your feedback....the bag was just very convenient, but using the net is a great option - thanks for sharing your weighing tip with us :)
