Just so you guys know the ladder should be high enough at the crest of the roof so you can walk right onto the roof without having to crawl, ya want to be able to walk right up on the roof. And per osha guidelines ratchet strap the top of the ladder to the building if possible.
@Duckhook12 Жыл бұрын
Also a good way to determine how steep your ladder should be is the treads are angled to you if the ladder is straight up and down so pull the ladder out until the treads are as parallel to the ground as possible. This seems to give the best angle without it feeling like the ladder will kick out.

Put your Toes touching the 2 bottom legs, stand up straight, reach your hands out, the close rung should be at your palms. That's the correct angle for all ladders. Atleast that's how they train us as firefighters

Great job repairing the roof. fixing roofs and landing a airplane are a lot like any landing you can walk away from is good so any roof that keeps the rain out is good. it's good Brody stayed on the ground so when the wind blows the ladder down he can put it back. It's easier to get on and off a roof when you have more rungs above the roofline. Take it from me never climb on a roof alone I fell off a ladder while climbing and was laid up for 8 or 9 months I laid on the ground for about 10 minutes before anyone found me. You could have spelled your name with the roof panels. Good advertisement for those who fly. a little fear helps keep you safe. never a dull moment watching you three work.

Chet, having a history on ladders I can tell you that there is nothing to the being up high. It's that sudden stopping when you fall off. How do I know, yup, like I said, I have a history with ladders. Fortunately, it has always been like they say where car wrecks occur mostly closer to home. For me, it was when I was closer to the ground both times and thought I had already gotten to the last rung. I healed fine until I reached 70 and then the arthritis kicked in. Ah, the golden, er I mean Rust years 😂😅🤣. Be safe. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.

Feet on the legs of the ladder, extend your arms out in front of you and touch the ladder while standing straight up. That’s the “rule” I learned when roofing on how to tell if it’s placed properly. And I think we always went two steps above roof line so you have something solid to hold while getting on the roof and off. Aluminum ladders a sketch when it taller. Get a real big bow the higher you go but fiberglass ladders are just so much heavier lol

Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable. Working on that big water tank has to be hard. Sand blasting is hard work and expensive. So glad to see you power washing it. A fresh coat of paint will make it look better. Nice older four wheeler you have. I assume you use it for spraying weeds I guess. See the pump and tank mounted on it. Handy unit to have. That ladder and roof deal was not the best. Glad you both are on the ground safe. That was kind of scary if you ask me. Oh my. Glad you got the roof panel fixed and everything went ok. Thanks for everything Chet. Really like your drone. Works super for surveying your fields like you are. Neat drone. All for now. The Iowa Farm Boy. Steve.

Make the ladder taller or get a taller ladder. So you climb up the taller ladder and just step off the ladder onto the roof. You also wearing boots. You should be wearing basketball shoes. Have you ever noticed a difference if you ran across a basketball court wearing proper shoes compared to your slip-on work boots. I hate being on a roof also but I've been on enough of them with guys that know what they're talking about and the tricks they taught me really help.

We had a friend ready to retire in a few months. Her ladder slipped as she was cleaning the living room window. The ladder slid sideways and she fell off. Her head hit the concrete steps. She went to Heaven just like that. She loved gospel music. She had some CD's at her memorial service. It had to be one sad memorial service. We knew where she was. We were sad to lose her. Then within a few weeks, two of her nieces got sucked into a load of canola as it was being unloaded. Her father could not prevent them being suffocated. Imagine how he felt. The bottom line, farming has some safety concerns. You guys know the difference even though you have "fun" kidding around with each other. Take care.

That roof adventure was a bit dicey!! Sixty or so years ago I would have run up that ladder and worked with NO qualms. Today, you'd have to hoist me up with a helicopter and I'd probable slide off due to the poop in my pants!! LOL When you looked over the ladder for the down trip I nearly lost it!! My how things change. Healing takes too long to take those risks any more. Don't worry guys, you will see. Up keeps getting harder, and down keeps getting farther. And getting UP from DOWN keeps taking more effort!! (and healing) Something for you to look forward to!! Good video. I sure as heck would not have been able to go up there. Even in a cherry picker.. I have second thoughts about city curbs now. LOL Stay safe guys. I was sweating one of you sliding off while you were adjusting those panels there. I knew my pucker factor would keep me anchored. It'll be another half hour before I can get off this seat.

Tie the ladder off two ways with ratchet straps. Stops side to side motion and tightens ground contact. Been there done that. BTW run the ladder up 3-4 rungs past roofline so you have better handholds.

Use a vicegrip on each side of the ladder and clamp it to the roof. Then use a rachet strap to hold the ladder to the roof. Also put the ladder up a little higher and you can get off and on from the side.

I have a solution for your fuel tank issue. Treat the rust patches with SEM Rustmort. You can get it from Napa. Take that and hand apply it with a scotchbrite pad (3m p/n 07447 is my go to). Make sure to wear your spray mixing gloves and PPE because it is very strong. Once you have the rust treated prime/seal it with Martin Senour Finish 1 FP401 lacquer primer. Once it’s dry top coat it with Valspar Industrial Mix TB540 or TB550 for gloss or TB543 for Semi-Gloss. All of these are products that you can get from Napa…at least you can put here in Oregon.

Ladders: you want it at a 70 degree angle. If it is too steep, it could tip over backwards. If it is not steep enough, the base could slide out from under you. The recommendation is 3-5 rungs above the roof if possible.
