Absolutely agree Megan about snaffles and flash nosebands. Tying the horses mouth shut gives it no chance of relieving the pressure from bad hands.
@Squimbelina2 жыл бұрын
There's trend at the moment for frighteningly tight flashes too - actually visibly digging into the nose. Which according to studies is as painful as a tornequet - and it's not being stopped in tack checks in competitions. It's unacceptable.

Meg: Let me know if you find this content boring. Everyone: Watching tack cleaning is so fun & satisfying! Seriously, I love (like Looooove) watching tack cleaning, spring cleaning & organizing tack rooms, stables or anything horse related, it's great for getting ideas we can use ourselves, but mostly because we are not the person doing the cleaning, so thank you for this vlog! ;) Feel free to post spring pony makeovers, one can never see enough pony cleaning & trimming vlogs (esp when we aren't the ones doing them :p ) Also seeing what others use & the reasoning behind the use of their tack is really interesting- as an aside, I wholehearted agree with you about cavessons & bits. I wish there was more decent quality, affordable brands that offered a plain cavesson as an option- most are either hanoverian/flash noses or cranks (esp with dressage bridles), at least in my country anyway. I really like your shires comfort bridle, will have to see if we can get them here after lockdown ends, as I much prefer mono crown, comfort bridles too & would rather not invest the best part of $600 in a single, higher quality bridle for competition if I don't have to!

Loved my Black Country saddle which was exactly like yours. It was the 8th saddle I tried on my low withered, round new forest pony and I never needed to adjust it for the next four years. I found it super comfy but the lack of knee rolls was an issue when jumping, especially as I’m 5’10 with super long legs and my pony was 13.2hh 🤣

I always clean my tack by first using a sponge to put SOAPY water onto it, then letting it dry, this is because it gets the grease of using soap. After it’s dry I get the sponge, wet it a tiny bit wipe it in the saddle soap and I’m good to go! P.S I love your voice, and for that matter you and your horses!

I'm an avid snaffle user, I also more recently also use the Trust Flexi bit on the OTTBs as i find it helps them to accept the contact, i tend to use flash nosebands, but only once the horse is accepting the bit and not trying to open their mouths. Neither noseband ever tight. Always interesting to see someone elses tack
@letitia-jaynewilliams58274 жыл бұрын
I've used fairy liquid on bridles as it helps get grease off more efficiently, was also a tip from a hunt yard I worked at 😂 just have to make sure it's cleaned with clean water afterwards and soaped thoroughly so it doesn't dry out the leather. Also recommend using a leather feed and be generous with it 😁
