Hey Taylor, as others have mentioned bleeding the main cooling system on the F80 is handled by the electric water pump, but the water to air intercooler side of the system according to the service procedure recommends to be bled first using a vacuum bleeder then doing the main system via these instructions: (copied from service procedure) “Do not leave the coolant expansion tank sealing cap open during the bleeding procedure. Switch on the low-beam headlights to perform the bleeding procedure. If the low-beam headlights are not switched on, the ignition (Terminal 15) will switch off automatically after a certain period of time and interrupt the bleeding procedure. Connect battery charger. Switch the ignition on. Switch on low-beam headlight. Set heater to maximum temperature and turn blower down to lowest speed. FES (driving experience switch) must not be in ECO PRO! Press accelerator pedal for 10 seconds to floor. Engine must not be started. The bleeding procedure was started by pressing the accelerator pedal and takes approx. 11 mins. (the electric coolant pump was activated and switches off automatically after approx. 11 mins.). Then adjust fluid level in the coolant expansion tank to maximum. Check cooling system on watertightness. If venting has to be carried out again (e.g. if cooling system is leaking), allow DME to fall completely (leave ignition key removed for approx. 3 mins.), then repeat from Point 2.” Hope this helps! Of course it also has a mechanical pump in addition to the auxiliary electric pump, but figured the knowledge of what bmw does could be helpful and worth a shot. Don’t forget to double check the main reservoir (may have done it off camera but trying to be thorough haha), best of luck! Loving the BMW content!!

Hi Taylor, I believe the coolant system still uses the n54 style water pump, on those cars turn key on depress gas pedal for 12 seconds and the water pump flush cycle should start, if they the start up is different. Keep cap off as it cycles so don't over fill

Hey Taylor love the channel. The reason you’re finding it hard to bleed cooling system is because they are supposed to be vacccum bled..so much easier.. but up to you it’s your car, just a handy tip for next time

U should look into buying an airlift vacuum tool for getting air out of cooling system. We use one in our shop and it’s nice to be able to pull a vacuum and fill without having to bleed it later

If the speed sensor issue continues, it's possible the front wires might need replacing. I noticed you hang the hubs and that in turn stretches the cable. I had similar issues on my car after I did suspension upgrades but it was intermittent.

Thanks again for taking us along. Great fun and the "flash back" too!!! Roof-Rack @ 38:10 - Depends!!! The short - Once it's up - it's up... once it's down, it's down - make sense?! The long comment - I have commented before during your drift week that is was fun watching you drift with the box and everything else on. I suppose if you travel to, for example, your Tail of the Dragon, or drift week - cool and practical!!! But otherwise, no. . . but I suppose that's why you have the "other" BMW!!! :) Ultimately, though, your toy, your show, and either way it's fun and wonderful.

Taylor i read through alot of the comments and didn't see it mentioned but the axle nuts are usually pinched out of round so they bite harder into the axle and are less likely to come off. its just slightly but that is usually why they are so hard to go on.

Its a lock nut on that axle. Those are very common for axle nuts
@Joebobinator
@Joebobinator Жыл бұрын
Yep. And they are supposed to be single use but realistically you can usually reuse them, unfortunately they are pretty good at tearing up the threads of both the nut and axle when you remove them. Also when the axle is stuck in the hub I usually thread the nut off just enough for it to cover the end of the axle threads then air hammer the end of the axle, most of the time it breaks loose then you can pull the nut the rest of the way off and take the suspension apart. Also anti seize the crap out of the new splines for easy removal in the future, or at least wd-40/another rust inhibitor

@@Joebobinator I use a little grease on the splines. For my Miata that rarely sees street use it works just fine. Daily drivers get anti sieze

Thank you for recording and narrating what, how and why you do things, it takes away alot of the mental blocks alot of us often feel towards starting a larger scale project. For your Euro parts you should check out FCP Euro, alot of their parts are a one time buy deal including oil changes.

Decompress the calipers with the bleeder cracked open with a rubber tube leading to a catch pan. Prevents you from pushing brake fluid back up to a full reservoir, the tube on the bleeder prevents air ingress, and draining out some of the old fluid gets rid of any compromised fluid that may have absorbed moisture, been heat cycled beyond efficiency, or just cooked. It is a simple solution with a ton of benefits.

On newer bmws you always want to vacuum fill both the high and low temp cooling systems. These cars are not designed to bleed themselves very easily without it. Also, there is a self bleed procedure on this car, for both the high and low temp systems at once. Connect battery charger Ignition on engine off Turn on low beam headlights Cabin heating to max temperature Hold accellerator to the floor for 10 seconds Bleed procedure takes 12 minutes Adjust level to max Check for leaks If rebleed is needed, let the car go to sleep and repeat process from step 3

Why not youst put a secondary manual switch(circuit breaker) in for the difflock. That makes the Motor lock the diff when activated? If it youst gets a 12v signal for lock maybe you could even use the rear fog light power (or similar) to activate it. Fog light on= diff locked. Fog lights off= normal operating diff and systems.
