Hi Maria, Looks like your Vanda is doing so well, And her flowers are gorgeous, You must be so pleased to finally have her flower again, She looks awesome, But I can see where your concerns about her weakness in the stem lie, I think your propagation for her would be a good idea, And the twins with the spilt personality are doing so well. I am amazed at their progress, :-)

Rosemary457 I am so happy to finally get blooms from her again...it had been so long I didn't even recognize the blossoms...and I am so glad she doesn't look like the rest the others...she adds a special touch to my garden...and yes the twins, Rose and Mary are doing quite well...I have noticed some new growths on them...nothing yet certain on any keikies though...I will have to be patient...which I am having quite a hard time doing with them...LOL! My big girl vandal will be propagated soon after she blooms...it took me 3 years to get them so I will appreciate every moment she is in bloom. Thank you for watching Rosemary and I am glad you were able to join me in this adventure. :) HAPPY GROWING!

You inspired me to start taking better care of my orchids! I thought I could just put them in the trees and they would thrive like they do in the rainforests. WRONG! They do so much better with care. Thanks for your inspiration.

I just looked up the vanda you bought. It's a beauty and it's a tall grower as well. Looking forward to the video on your new addition.
@PictureMaria19 жыл бұрын
+Richard Lewis Why thank you very much...and I did not know that they are tall vandas...they show pictures of it blooming while still very compact...so that is a good thing that it can bloom when they are fairly small...speaking of blooms I can't wait until he does...I don't have a one that is orange with spottings so it will be very exciting for me to see. :)

Super excited to see the new propagation method! And yes you are right it will help her start over with some new healthy roots! In the video the bottom half with the roots did appear to have the beginning stages of growth, if only they continued on a few more months in. Hope everything goes well :) sending positive energy for you and your orchids!
@PictureMaria19 жыл бұрын
Joshuas Aquariums I am excited super excited too...The bottom of the vanda shows a lot of little raised bumps...but I am assuming they are all going to be more roots...I am going to wait until she is done giving her flowers and then I am going to propagate her to encourage her to grow some keikies...and if all else fails I will threaten her again...LOL!!! ...indeed stay tuned for more and thank you for sharing in my adventures and for suggesting the other propagation method! :) ...and yes keep sending positivity vibes my way...we need all the help we can get! Hoping all is well dear friend...and as always HAPPY GROWING!

I think your climate is so perfect for orchids, that it gives you freedom to try extreme propagation methods, because it's the best possible environment for a fast recovery. These things unfortunately wouldn't work where I live. It must be so nice to live in your tropical paradise! :)
@PictureMaria19 жыл бұрын
Andrea Soilander indeed we have our advantages but as in anywhere you live there's also setbacks...and you have to make the most of what you have...understanding if there is a will there is a way...it just depends on how badly you want to make a way...but indeed I do appreciate the fact that I am capable of keeping my orchids outdoors for the most part. :)

annaiskicking ...awwwww thank you...and I think you should give it a try anyways...you never know until you try...and they just need a whole lot of sun...for the most part of the day that are in bright shade or dappled light...just in the morning time is where they will receive direct sunlight...and they seem to appreciate it. I hope you get one soon! :)

Richard Lewis YOU SHOULD GROW ONE!!! They are so much fun!!! ...but be very cautious...the rewards can be quite addictive as you can see...in less than a months time I went from about 4 to now 13!!! Hoping you find them soon...and if push comes to shove you should order online...if there is a will there is a way...it's up to you to make it a way...Let me know when you get one! I'm sure you won't regret it! :)

Very interesting! Loved the intro, beautifully shot! Will definitely stay tuned for the rest of the series. I would love to have orchids in my garden--is it even possible in the Vegas triple digit summer heat ? I have an emperor palm tree whose lower trunk is shade, and sm toying with the idea of attaching a phalaenopsis to it. I have many fairly new potted plants out there, and I have been very dedicated and industrious with keeping them well hydrated (daily waterings, frequent mistings up to several times daily). It's a grind, but I'm determined to see them through the summer. I'm imagining the phals on the tree trunk. Possible, or pipe dream?
@PictureMaria19 жыл бұрын
mjd Thank you for your kind comments...and IF THERE IS A WILL...THERE DEFINITELY IS A WAY!!! I believe it is all in the matter of making sure you have heat tolerant plants...I would say that your top heat loving, high light plants would be your Vandas and your Cattleyas...but make sure you do the research...because there are certain kinds that are also colder growing orchids. The most critical things to growing healthy blooming orchids would be of course proper temperature, lighting, watering and fertilizing. In places where heat is a major issue you definitely have to provide some form of protection from the scalding sun...because too much sun for any orchid would leave them in very bad shape. In your area I would recommend bright shade or dappled light...but not direct sunlight...also good job on the watering...because they are going to need it to keep hydrated...Phals may do well...but be careful on how much sun they get...I keep mine in more of a bright shade...their leaves are very sensitive to direct sunlight. Good luck...and keep me posted on your projects...again IF THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS A WAY...Stay committed to your goal and ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! :)

Maria, I received my plant today, and I'm not happy about the overall quality of health she's in. After I unpacked her from the shipping box. I gave it a good soaking to see what type of root system it has. Even though it has long, almost a foot of roots as is seems. I had the hardest time wrapping up the roots to get it into a terracotta pot. Now that it's potted with a little bit of rocks. I have to give her your deep hydration method. Her leafs are dehydrated and I had to remove the lower leaf. I'm disappointed at the moment with my baby. In time she'll bounce back. The blooms are pretty and it smells like plastic. UGH!
@PictureMaria19 жыл бұрын
+Richard Lewis Is this the one you posted on my Orchid Adventure page? ...because that vanda is BEEEAAAUUUUTIFUUUUL! ...but I am sure it probably did not look all that hot after being dry and without light for a bit...but indeed it will bounce back rather quickly!! Vandas have really amazed me in its bounce back power!!! As you have seen I have had vandas that were left with hardly any roots at all after trimming all of the dead ones off...and they came back with a vengeance...and also some with leaves so wilted that you wouldn't think that they would survive but they did...so I wouldn't fret so much...it'll be alright...Your vanda will be close to 100% in no time!!!

Andrea Soilander I live in Central Florida...we get great climate...but also endure harsh rainy season and hurricanes...but thank goodness our winters are short. Thank you so much for your kind compliments...and I have lizards everywhere...they're my friends...they help rid the garden of pesky critters that want to harm my orchids and plants! :)

...yes it is a pleasure...it really provides me a sanctuary of peace and tranquility...a place where I can escape the real world and go to become restored...refreshing to my soul...and the critters in my garden always amuses me...except for caterpillars and snakes...not so thrilled about them...but I love watching the squirrels, lizards, frogs, butterflies, and occasional rabbits and owls that visit from time to time. I was originally from the island of the Philippines...where orchids and nature was a prominent part of my life as a child.

Your absolutely rite. I'm ready to make a third purchase. After what I thought would be a great buy turned out to be a challenge. It's a mini vanda type. The second one is sturdier and I didn't know there stiff like trees. I never took a good look at her till yesterday's watering. She's a sturdy plant with potential. I just don't know what type I want next... I don't want the same old purple vanda that everyone else's has. Any ideas?

Ha ha ha!!!! Vanda addicted!!!! I would recommend getting into the ones that are fragrant and have different petal forms than your not common ones...such as the Carmela or the Cindy Banks...I have a Cindy Banks that I am so excited about with a purple and white with a very spotted leopard pattern...oh and there is one that is native to the Phillipines called the Waling Waling that I am trying to get my hands on. HAPPY VANDA HUNTING MY FRIEND! :)

I miss phrased the question. What I meant to say is it the same care level or harder. I'm trying to stick with the same level of care. I gather that if I can grow and bloom a Maxillaria then a vanda shouldn't be that hard. The only good thing is that I can't over water it and kill it. At least I hope not.

Aerides lawrenceae x Vanda Sasicha is this a good type of vanda to buy? I want to get something that it's going to be harder to maintain.
@PictureMaria19 жыл бұрын
+Richard Lewis I don't know much about this variety other than it is dainty, beautiful and fragrant! I've never had one myself so I have no personal experience with them. Out of curiosity is there a particular reason why you want to buy a vanda that is harder to maintain? The reason why I ask is because there are many people that are deterred by any vanda because of the upkeep of having one...they are in my opinion already one of the most tedious orchids to maintain... but I just love them so much that I am committed. Many people will get a vanda because of their beauty but after the excitement dies they realize that it's too much work. I myself would not have a specific eye for a vanda that is even harder to take care of...they are already hard to maintain...LOL! ...but to each his own...and If that is your fancy I wish you the best of luck in your orchid hunt! :)

@PictureMaria18 жыл бұрын
Yes you can send me a message on my Facebook page...but there is also certain online companies that can send you a virus test kit...or you can send a cutting of the plant and they can test it out for you...also Miss Orchid Girl has a lot of information on viruses and bacteria...you can also check with her as well. I am so hoping that it is not...I will keep my fingers crossed.
