I took note of your alpine lake video and tried it out at a beauty up in Washington near Rainier. Caught several very small cutthroats, but I had issues with the highly sloped banks. I lost several flies on the back casts catching grass/thistles (was using 5x and 6x tippet) and was forced to only cast shallowly down the shore line. Do you have any suggestions? I'm tempted to invest in a packable spinning rod, but there are few pleasures in life better than seeing a strike on a dry fly...

Just curious why do you cast right handed but you reel is right hand retrieve? Guessing its just the Huge thing to do.
@mattdoesflyfishing4 жыл бұрын
There is a huge misconception around which way is the correct way to rig a reel. The answer is that the reel needs to be spooled for the hand that is best at implementing vigorous up and down or circular motion for short periods of time. There wont be any debate in your mind about which is the correct hand.

^^^ This is the best explanation I’ve ever heard. Spot on.

@TimothyAdkinsJ4 жыл бұрын
Which hand would you bet on to draw 200+ perfect circles against variable amounts of resistance? Most fly fishers have only voluntarily put a fish on the reel, but any fish that can pull line out against drag will also create resistance against your reel hand, too. When you graduate from sunfish and spring creek troots, you find this out. Some people resist, some people learn the lesson and adapt
