It's nice to still have the illuminations. What helps them now is the shows on the tower building & the instalations. I preferred them when I was younger. There seemed to be more of them 😊

Brilliant video Stephen! I agree that the illuminations look even better with all the reflections created by the rain.🌈

Thanks for this video Stephen. I am so glad my parents took me to see the illuminations back in the early 1970's when they were absolutely awesome. Nowadays... not so much. For me it looks like when you drive down a high street at Christmas except shorter

Really enjoyed the drive through the illuminations. The big wheel looks great with all its changing colours as does the tower. I loved the reflections that the lights were casting on the wet road. Always lots of memories come back to me of myself when I was young and of my folks when I see Blackpool.

Another great video, Steve. The illuminations are alright, but nothing like what they used to be in their heyday. I'm 70 so so I went through them as a kid/teenager in the 60s and they were fantastic.

Totally agree with you, the lights are very sparse and lacklustre. I remember them in the 70's and 80's and they were stunning.
@janobyrne24243 сағат бұрын
Thanks for the video Stephen, I remember in the old days the cars being bumper to bumper on the front we'd park up and walk. I loved the old bulbs but things change with time. The reflections of the lights do make them look better but they are sparce in some places. Big wheel and the Tower look magnificent and the lights there look better than elsewhere. 😊😊😊

I’ve been intending to drive through the illuminations for a while. So pleased I haven’t. They’re nothing like the ones I remember as a child. There’s nothing for children, nothing magical at all.

I remember when the cars and trams used to be in the same lane at the metropole and juggling the trams at Ash street in Fleetwood before they brought in traffic lights. Surprised there wasn’t more Alan Bradley incidents!
@brianrobinson79842 сағат бұрын
Ah, Blackpool lights. I loved them as a kid and when I was on my YTS I used to sell those luminous choker chains and light up yo yo's along with my mates on the promenade. I especially liked it when the coach drivers would let us board and we'd sell to the passengers. Happy times and I made a few extra (and much needed) quid. Until I got caught by plod and fined for having no hawkers license.. lol

Hi Stephen. thank you for your drive through the illumination . there were a lot more lights years ago. the reflections on the wet road look nice. the tower and big wheel look nice lite up. best part of the illuminations are the old trams. The pleasure beach should be free to walk around and open at night. it used to look nice when it was dark and all the coloured lights. take care and I,ll see you in the next one. xxx

@stevensmith74603 сағат бұрын
Evening Stephen, thanks for the drive through. Hate to say it but they're not as good as they used to be. A lot of areas are just strings of lights. Only gynn square up to bispham resembles years gone by. Great drive through mate, cheers.

Not as good as the old lights years ago but better than no lights at all, big wheel and the tower look good, thanks Stephen for the drive though of the lights

In the 60's the traffic was worse with air-cooled VW beetles conking out. I remember staying at the Imp' with a disco in the cellar called 'Trader Jacks' I think.
@shaunmoran65113 сағат бұрын
Just watched a KZbin vid from 1969 illuminations, the old incandescent bulb were so much better , far more lights and themes, like old Xmas lights , guess it’s all to do with cost , thanks for the vid Stephen.

Stephen i think were all fed up of the rain,however it does look fantastic with the reflections
@martinwebb16812 сағат бұрын
Thanks Stephen, sad to say I think the illuminations although still nice have lost there magic, they're nothing near as affective as they were years ago. They were just far more magical when they used bulbs. The board ones along the sea front are nice and probably the best ones now. Nice commentary and scenery along the way.
@imogenharrison34324 сағат бұрын
Stephen it is horrendously quiet. You'll know what it should and would have been like on a Sunday evening in years gone by. There is no way you should have been able to drive as far as Manchester Square without any traffic. Blackpool is dying, somebody give it the last rites.

Blackpool illuminations have really gone down! There was so much to see when I was a child! What an amazing night we used to have! The only part of the illuminations worth seeing is from Gynn Square to Bispham! They're rubbish now! Unfortunately a real anticlimax now!
@georgekalamarski52402 сағат бұрын
Nothing wrong with a naughty night. Been to lots of them. If I remember correctly, had Bernard Manning as the guest Comedian on one of them. Very good illustrations video. Only got to see half of them, the last time I came, with the horrendous traffic jam that night at the end of August.
@sambuka574 сағат бұрын
Always been a problem along the Prom around the Tower since they decided to do away with 4 lanes and implemented the idiotic shared space idea. Traffic jams, people parking all over the place, clueless pedestrians walking along the road stuffing their faces with £1.00 burgers, having no idea if they are on the pavement or road. Regarding the Illuminations they are not as popular as they used to be, I can remember when the queue trailed down Squires gate lane up St Annes road and down Marton Drive circa 1977.

hi 👋 Stephen ❤️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
@jimgemmell28314 сағат бұрын
They place too much emphasis on the central area for the illuminations. There's more lights around there, the Tower etc, needs more lights towards the South Pier. Other than that, illuminations are always nice to see.
@PhilBurns-oc2vg5 сағат бұрын
The reflections do look good but possibly a bit distracting when you're driving

Good video at the start the lights are very samey a d a bit boring until you get closer to the tower. I'm making some light trees and some stars if it's OK Stephen i will send video of them when it's nearer Christmas if you don't want me to I understand you possibly get loads of emails but I'm just a DIY hobby lighting guy and I think what I've done is pretty good

Good drive through Stephen but illuminations are poor compared to what they used to be but better than none I suppose
@davefreeman76294 сағат бұрын
50 pounds just to go in to a park the (plasure beach) that is a rip off iam sorry but that is a joke at the rate thay charge how can thay justiy that rate, and the opening times of the plasure beach closeing open at 10am or 11am and closeing at 4,5,or 6pm that is shocking, i can see sadly see it going in to adminstaion or going bust due to not makeing enough money thay need to rethink how thay open and work otherwise that park wont be there in 5 years or if it is it will be run down and not doing good. the lights are great and lovely to see as allways you do us proud with the lighting and the talks you do during your videos, makes for intresting viewing thanks for keeping us informed about what is going on in and around blackpool. many thanks for this as allways keep safe and look after your self, and try and take care.🙂

I was at Blackpool all last week and I don't think the lights are as good as what they used to be year's ago,also I noticed quite a few lights not working.
@timholmes58323 сағат бұрын
Attempting to compare the piers to the Pleasure Beach Resort is riddled with challenges I would have thought. True the piers are free but they don’t offer the range of attractions vis a vis the Pleasure Beach Resort. Furthermore the piers are relatively narrow which means fewer people will create pinch-points hence they look, feel busy thus will have a ‘buzzing’ atmosphere….. but when was this not the case? lol. Unfortunately I don’t have the means to regularly visit however the times I have the Pleasure Beach Resort atmosphere was good. As for the ‘on the day gate price’ …. It is what it is, if possible book online in advance as I did a few weeks prior…. £33. The Illuminations are brilliant and bring in a lot of tourists. In my opinion, having donation stations is good….. and it’s optional. One development would be to increase the number of Tableaux and have them not just at the Little Bispham area.

river bank collapsed and near a viewing point today. rain and wet soil and wind blowing trees. whole landscape is changing due to rain and winds. could not believe it when i pulled up on my bike and looked for snakes and could see river where trees once where and then saw landslip . i thought just a minute how come i can see river at this point? not going to go on viewing point anymore.
