Absolutely loved this video. Despite being born & bred in Peterborough I used to be a regular visitor to Blackpool. This brought back some great memories. So much has changed since my last visit about 12 years ago. That big black building next to Coral Island definitely wasn't there nor was the mirror ball. Brings back memories of some really fun times in Gaietys ( probably spelt that wrong ) & the Flagship or the Palace night clubs.

Worked as a taxi driver in Fleetwood for 10 yrs. Remember the pier and the Jolly Roger Bar before it burnt down. We used to pick up a guy from there who was a manager. His name was Harry Allen who happend to be the last Hangman in the UK. He lived on the Rossall estate. Also the Steamer Pub on Dock St opposite the old Roll on Roll off and Ferry Dock was run by Syd Little of Little and Large fame. Don't know if he still does. Very busy for taxis especially when the fishing boats were still operating from there.

Hi Stephen, Such a superb video. Thanks so much. It evoced lovely memories for me of when I was a young boy, back in the Seventies, and mum and dad would say 'let's drive up the M6 to St Annes, and then drive along the Prom to Blackpool to see the illuminations.' We did this pretty much every half-term school holiday in October. I loved the big, open sand dunes at St Anne's to romp in and make my sandcastles ☺️ The Prom along that stretch of the Flyde coast is so long, and seeing it again today in your video has been so uplifting. I hope your back has improved by now - LOL! You probably need some physio or massage therapy! I must get around to another little holiday in Blackpool, perhaps this coming summer or Autumn. I really fancy trying the brand new hotel, Boulevard, as a couple of people I know have stayed there and said it was SO superb and clean with every possible amenity. Keep up the great work 😎👍

Thanks for showing the beauty of my little hometown. Fleetwood can get a bit of a bad rep, but I'm sure most places have a bad element. True codheads, as we are known, are the salt of the earth. The reason the hotel was built was that whilst LNER had a dirct route to Scotland on the east coast, the west coast had Shap to climb which was too high for the loco's to manage. Passengers stayed at the North Euston and then caught the ferry to Ardrossen to connect with the train to Glasgow and beyond. When the tracks over Shap were built it still needed a banker engine to help the climb, but at least it gave a direct west coast route from London.

just a point on the solar activity mentioned in the last blog our star has been experiencing heightened activity since spring 2022, having fired off its most powerful solar flare for five years back in April. It appears to be moving into a particularly active period of its 11-year cycle of activity, which began in 2019 and is expected to peak in 2025. so the cold weather is unlikely to be down to lessened activity? like your show alot have a great christmas.
