Hugging My Husky Dog for Too Long

Do dogs like hugs? It's just like people. Some of my dogs like long hugs, some tolerate only a few seconds. But I am sure that my cute huskies understand that this is how I show my love for them. Although a delicious treat is certainly preferable for any dog.

Such cute reactions! Yuki complaining vocally when she thought Dad was hugging her too long, Olivia just drawing back when she felt Dad had hugged her long enough & Monty enjoying every moment & not minding how long the hugs were! And of course they all welcomed the treats at the end!

So wonderful to hug your dogs! 🥰 So wonderful when they hug you back by pressing their neck, head, body against the person they love. Our GSD, Tessie, didn't want a hug when I needed one. Her brother/litter mate died 849 days ago. Tessie shied away in her own personal grief when we saw Baron had died at home. Took about 2 months before she was OK with a hug and then gave hugs back. @@NorthYukiHusky Thank you for asking. We're battling a few health issues. Tessie has early doggy dementia but I started her on Anipryl and within 6 hrs it was like her brain switched on! She kept looking through the house and was amazed where she lives. 🥰 We thought she had the evil Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) as she had the early deterioration but ... that greatly improved once the Anipryl started. DM doesn't improve soooo, after talking this over with the good people doing research into DM at the University of Missouri, I sent in her cheek swab/drool for a DNA test. Tessie is a carrier of DM but her symptoms are not the evil disease. She has a different evil disease. The same that killed both her brothers. Baron died on a doggy bed. Tessie *NEEDS * that bed. It has his scent on it. He didn't pee or poop on it but, even after all this time, when I fluff it up, it smells like Baron boy. 🥲 Sorry. Probably more than you wanted to know. Tessie is the beautiful German Shepherd of my avatar. 🥰🥰🥰

Monte loves the special one on one time. Very sweet and patient. Yuki tolerated for a while but then the howls started. (Your dogs generally don 't howl much in videos. But I guess they are vocal like most Huskies.) Olive took young to sit still . Just wants to play. Good to see the cats Bat and Belka. 😻😻😻💖💖💖🐾🐾🐾🐾

Thanks! Our huskies arrange a howl from time to time. For example, if they hear other people's dogs outside the window. Or children run by loudly shouting and laughing. we have to calm down three screaming dogs😱

Well Eric, as soon as Yuki howled she wanted to go for a walk, both of my huskies started howling loudly. We are temp. living in an apt while our house is being rebuilt after the Marshall Fire in Dec 2021. So I had to hug both of my huskies to get them to stop backing. Based on past videos, I would hug all three huskies and I would have to stay away from your cats because of allergies. Cute video, loved it. I have to get some ear phones to listen to the complete video.

I love seeing people who properly raise Huskies. They are a handful, but you are doing it right. You are keeping them active and engaged. You can tell this by their reactions, and the fact that the furniture isn't torn to shreds lol. Thank you for being such a responsible Husky owner. I do have to say my favorite reaction was when you first started hugging Monty. He was just sitting there staring like "Really? Okay I'll endure it because I have to.", but boy oh boy does he love belly rubs.

We took Monty from the shelter, or rather he was on overexposure. the breeders could not sell it and gave it to a shelter. But he was immediately taken to the house for temporary maintenance.

Monty seems more receptive. I've found through the years that some like hugs and some do not. I think what always made me smile is when they either leaned into me or would lay down and put their heads in my lap. I then knew I was loved.

Exactly, my dog, female, doesn't like long hugs. She doesn't mind it, but doesn't seem to really like it. Others told me same, but some dogs ok with long hugs. I wonder why.

Yes, they do it in different ways. Yuki demands affection more often, but shows it less. Olive likes to be around us. and Monty is always ready for hugs.
