Wagner didn’t even live to be 80! He died at 69. Rossini composed his Stabat Mater at 50, after his official retirement at 37, and the books of humorous piano pieces at various times during his later years. Downs doesn’t mention that Sibelius, who died in late 1957, did not do any composing after 1927.
