One of my favorite songs. Hugh Masakela's gritty gospel sound voice and raw energy makes this song a treasure. The creative blending of western style music and the traditional song is amazing.It has an authentic traditional sound to his singing. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

My dad had the record "the Americanization of Ooga Booga" when l was a kid in the late 1960s and early '70s. I grew up hearing this music. Masekela always makes me think of Dad.

Masekela was one of the first true African jazz musicians to arrive in America during the 60's. I still have the original album where this song was recorded. It had a prelude that said /when I was a young boy working in the mines of South Africa... when we went to the mines...etc. A classic album with Big Black etc. Surely a collectors album without a doubt.
