i also saw in the behind the scenes stuff that sometimes the boat developed a mind of its own during the west end previews. The boat would enter one side and leave the other without coming downstage. Once it went too far and was hovering over the pit and Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman had to keep their weight in the back of the boat to keep it from tipping. With the crazy technical stuff in the show i feel like stuff is bound to go wrong lol

It was Michael Crawford who this happened to. The chair didn't turn and he had to whisper to Meg that he was still there. There have been a few mishaps, Dave Willets fell and broke his leg in the graveyard scene during Wandering Child. They had to postpone the rest of the show. In another performance, the chandelier wouldn't raise after the crash at the end of Act 1.

I've seen the show twice. The first time Christine tripped when she came on to sing Point of No Return. The second time the Phantom repeated 'hear it, feel it, secretly caress you" in Music of the Night.

Oh, Hugh can definitely be a bit of a loveable dork at times. One of the best words I've heard to describe him is "adorkable."

LOL! I'm so glad I found this. I love hearing about stage bloopers! But can you imagine how scary that would be if you were the Phantom and the chair didn't work? :D Wow that would freak me out!

I might as well contribute...the first time I saw it was in Vegas with Kristi Holden as Christine and her robe got caught on a fake mannequin in her dressing room just before The Mirror. My mom started laughing.

Rofl! I laughed uncontrollably at that, and I suddenly wish I had a clip of that, where the guy is whispering and handing the mask up..

Yes, he was the Phantom for six months in 1999, left to do "Martin Guerre," then came back to play the Phantom from 2003 until 2005.

I met Jeff just a few moments ago and he told me a few stories about his time on the stage (as you know he's played various roles) but he left out this story!! He works a few blocks from my school...I may have to go up there next week and question him about this ^_^ at least it would give me a chance to talk to him again /_^
