One day the realization happens. It’s a realization that should have happened before one even got into the car and started driving down the hi-fi highway. It’s the realization that you must have a room that will allow you to hear what your system is capable of producing. By building your own listening room, you have realized that you no longer need to spend money chasing a small increase in resolution or dynamics with new speakers and amplifiers and placing that gear in a room that may or may not let you hear that extra 10 K you just spent for a new amplifier or speaker. You have realized that spending more money on gear without a proper listening room is not the way to go. It never has been. It never will be.

No artificial room correction here. No DIRAC or any of that bullshit. Thats what really annoys me. Speaker designers go to great lengths to get flat frequency response and dickheads want to immediately correct them to compensate for the their room. Really nice work guys showing how it should be done. No bullshittery here. LOVE IT HUGH.

Great room!!!!!!!!!! Glad to see more people doing this and paying attention to the most important component - the ROOM (other than the recording - recording engineer is king). However I must take issue with Mr. Foley's assessment "close your eyes and the speakers disappear". IMHO the speakers should disappear WITH your eyes OPEN (too). And it should capable of "take you there" more so than "in the room".

Learned a lot from this video. I'm sure it sounds amazing! I have one question. Why did you choose a rectangular room (with golden proportions) when you could have built any shape you wanted? The reason I'm asking is that most software calculates rectangular rooms more easily, yet several of the best sounding acoustical halls in the world are in fact not that shape. Ceiling not parallel to the floor, side walls tapered (slightly wider room in front - narrower in rear), slight tilt on front wall etc. I get that you don't want to miniaturise a large hall due to the shorter distances and quicker response of a smaller space, I don't understand why we start with rectangular rooms. Why not the Epidaurus as the starting point?
@AcousticFields
@AcousticFields 2 жыл бұрын
Acoustic halls and critical listening rooms are two completely different animals. In a critical listening room, we focus all the energy on one seat. In halls, the focus is on a much larger audience with a larger sound field. Rectangular rooms are predictable and consistent in their room modal issues allowing for treatment types to be placed more effectively.
