I love watching these phone repair videos. I actually went and replaced the battery on my original Google Pixel not too long ago due in part to videos like this. For my first repair like that it could have gone worse, I burned the bottom of the screen with a heat gun but it's only noticeable when the screen is off so it doesn't bother me. Everything else works fine and the battery now properly holds a charge so I call it a win.

For sure. He stripped it down disconnected it/reconnected it and then fitted the screen. Surely a waste of time if there’s any charge left in the battery there still being the potential for shorting it? The way the phone is constructed would seem to indicate this is an unnecessary process because you can’t really fit the screen with the battery disconnected the back panel being screwed on from the front!

Having said that, I do have a Pixel 6 and absolutely love it. It takes the most beautiful photos. I managed to get an open box one in the US, saving me almost £250 from what it would cost in the UK. If I had a complaint, it is that you really need to have some kind of case on it because no matter what, you are going to drop that sucker and it is all glass. I have a cheap clear jelly. It does take away from the beauty of the design, but I do not feel like paying £600 to replace the phone.

Grabbed the same model this year on sale for around $400. A beautiful OLED screen, good battery life, headphone jack, very handy fingerprint scaner on the back, camera that takes awesome pictures at night and ability to even degoogle it makes this phone a strong value for that amount of money. Additional plus for easy future repairs like you mentioned in the video. The only downside I've noticed are mid quality speakers. Although, if anyone is looking for a good android smartphone it's definitely worth to buy it but is really hard to get hands-on on this device online.

I used this video as a guide to repair my own 4a 5G, and it was a total success! Two things not covered well in the video, though: one, how long to heat the screen (I preheated the hot plate to 80° for about 10 minutes, and then had the phone on it for about 5 minutes); and two, making sure to transfer and secure the tiny grille for the handset speaker.

Those Pixels seem so reliable. Fascinating alternative to the Galaxy range and iPhones. I'm amazed at how cheaply you can get these phones and parts. I've been searching for a replacement screen for my Xperia 5 ii, but they seem to be super expensive. Fortunately, the scratch is only over the "forehead" of the device, so I'm not too upset, and the phone is getting on a bit now, so it's had a good run. I hope there's an Xperia 1 iv this year. 6:45 a lot of customers don't want to wait for the adhesive to dry sadly. My solution is to use scotch tape around the edges of the display and pull it tight down around the bottom of the device. I then tell the customer to be easy on it for 24 hours and then they can remove the tape. Not everyone listens and occasionally I get phones back same day with a screen that fell off since they couldn't deal with the tape.
@acumenium8157
@acumenium8157 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of customers probably *can't*. It's not 2001 anymore, you kind of need your phone to do anything, and few people have two functioning phones.
@Saxophone_King
@Saxophone_King 2 жыл бұрын
@@acumenium8157 kinda leaves everyone in a bad situation. That's why I settled on the tape solution. So far the only time issues have come up is from people being impatient and pulling the tape too early. One of them literally said "it looked bad" so they peeled it and yanked the screen off in the process. Wound up breaking a part that had taken 2 months to arrive because they couldn't wait another 24 hours.

@@Saxophone_King Why are you as a repair shop not keeping the phone during the repair process (of which curing absolutely is), though? Or are you talking about people who apply it themselves and mess it up?
@Saxophone_King
@Saxophone_King 2 жыл бұрын
@@acumenium8157 as you said before, people can't leave their phones for the whole curing time of 24 hours. I always allow for at least an hour of curing time in the shop and add the tape so that customers can take it with them an not be cut off from the world. I also give them a verbal and written warning about adhesives and curing times. Most listen. Some don't. There's not much I can do and still get people their phones in a reasonable time frame in this modern world. The scotch tape method works surprisingly well when applied correctly and allowed to do it's job.

@@Saxophone_King I see. I have no idea how third-party repairs shops work. I know like official companies, you send something in, you are *not* getting that thing back so fast. Really unfortunate situation we're in regarding phone repairs. You can't give someone a burner or something for a day because that's a big cost to add up per customer, but people need their phones and generally only that one that just broke and needs repairs.

Rubber Bands --- I'd recommend using a padded weight (perhaps a brick, or a chunk of heavy metal). The padding might be an old sock. Place the phone on a padded surface, and the weight on top. It would apply pressure more evenly, more controlled (you choose the mass of the weight), no pressure points, and much easier to use. Less chance of disaster. If alignment is a concern, then use tape to hold the screen in position. All this is speculation, not based on experience. But the rubber bands make me wince. ;-) Edit to add: Choose the weight's mass so that it doesn't break the screen. Ensure it is appropriately padded. There's no reason why applying the necessary and appropriate pressure smoothly from a well designed weight wouldn't be LESS likely to break screen than the uneven and inconsistent force from rubber bands. One could even calculate the exact pressure being applied (e.g. in PSI) being the mass over the area. It doesn't require much effort to arrive at a better solution than the rubber bands

Hugh uses E8000 which is a liquid adhesive. If you're repairing devices that customers will end up actually using, it is unsuitable as it takes too long to reach max bond strength. TESA 61395 is a much better option (especially if you're replacing a screen that was previously held in place using tape, such as the Pixel 4a 5G). TESA 61395 is pressure activated and doesn't need cure time, plus it gives hard OLED screens "room to breathe" so it won't break as easily.

How do you know the screen is the only component to be replaced? Is that the most common issue for phones?

Didn’t you disassemble the phone to unplug the battery in order to attach the new display ? Because you just unplugged it plugged it back in and closed the phone and after this you attached the display with battery plugged in. Extra steps literally for nothing

I would put something between the rubber bands and the screen. Like half deck of cards, or wad of post-its

I wanted to like Google but as a owner of a Google pixel 4a non 5g I just can't. Bugs are a pain in the butt and the screen came with a weird line on screen. I was even told that I couldn't send it to the warranty bcs it was purchased through Amazon. And amazon would rather get the phone back and refund me than repair it... Plus, most Google products are hard to find in Europe and expensive. If you are not American stay clear.

Before i got my Pixel 6 i owned the 4a 5G - A great Phone! It slipped out of my hand and landed on the 0,5mm that where not covered by my screenprotector and the glass shattered. Compared to the price of the 4a 5G the repair was way to expensive so i used it with the shattered glass until i got my new phone.

I have a galaxy tab s4 that also has a busted display after I dropped it sadly lol. But other than that the rest of its fine, I have no idea what to do with it. It's been sitting for over a year or two now.

I tried to take my 4a to a repair shop for a new battery. They told me they couldn't replace the battery without breaking the screen, so the total cost of the repair would be $400 usd. Very upsetting

1:48 "Seriously it's less strong than the pixel 4 and other newer phones like the iphones" Isn't this obvious? The pixel 4a 5g is only rated ip57, while flagship phones like the iphones have ip67/68. Having higher rating means you need to seal your phone more properly and you need to use stronger adhesive

@@1236688645 yes, you might know it, some people might know it but it doesn't mean everyone knows it. And the fact that he mentioned the pixel was easier to open than the iphone without giving the info about the water rating may give people some false sense that the iphone is unreasonably sealed for nothing and the pixel is friendlier in terms of repairablilty
