Not sure what he was getting at with those comparisons. The iPhone screen is twice as bright, 120hz, has much better brightness distribution and the more efficient cpu will more than compensate for the lower battery size. Back in the day I owned a Samsung J700i, which I found the most beautiful slider phone ever. I can't believe we were only capable storing like 5-6 MP3 files on it, and whenever we felt like we needed a new song on it, I had to delete it first and check up with my friends if they had cool songs on their phones, then transfer the song via Bluetooth which took ages. 😂 Couldn't store more then like 35 contacts on the simcard as well so you were always limited with who you had contact with. And oh my god, the times you had to pay 15 cents per text message, and waste your whole 20 euros on prepaid in one night when you had a bit of a lover. Those times though, much simpler times. Love it.

I've always had Blackberry phones, and I've been using one of these since they came out, and I gotta say, I've loved owning it, but it's not without its issues. The power and volume up and down buttons are prone to failure, it overheats constantly, it reboots itself without warning occasionally, the battery is horrendous, the overall build quality isn't quite on par with earlier Blackberry's (I had the Blackberry Classic prior to this which just feels way more premium), the screen is also apparently prone to failure too (but I can't say I've experienced this until VERY recently). If it wasn't for the build quality issues, this would by far be the best Blackberry phone ever made IMO. Really cool video btw!

The two-color temperature LED was so underrated. Basically this meant that it didn't matter how warm or cold your light was in the sign. It allowed you to adapt the flash to the envoirement resulting in more natural looking light. A much missed feature.
@Knaeckebrotsaege2 жыл бұрын
My Moto Z Play has that as well. It still shoots better photos than the phone I replaced it with with it's idiotic 4 camera array and single color LED. Not to mention for the flashlight/torch function the Motorola enables both LEDs at the same time so it's ridiculously bright. Guess dual tone LEDs are going the way of the dodo, just like IR blasters, replaceable storage in the form of microSD cards and dual-SIM functionality that isn't intentionally crippled...

I need to figure out how to flash a faster OS onto it. I don't understand why the stock OS is so slow
@Cheesemonk3h4 жыл бұрын
@@HughJeffreys you can't flash an OS on it, i've tried figuring out how to root it and its potentially hackable but the the bootloader is locked and does a hash check so you can't even root it without it trying to un-root itself and even if you could install a custom OS the hardware drivers for the synaptic trackpad wouldn't be ported over and the biggest feature of the phone wouldn't work. it feels slower than a nexus 5x, which uses the same chipset, but its performance is exactly the same in benchmarks. its not slow in the sense that its not capable of doing a job you throw at it but its slow in the sense that it takes a long time for the cpu to realize it needs to kick into higher gear. i am positive the cpu governor they use sacrifices performance to improve battery life which makes an old chipset feel even older. the battery life IS exceptional for a 5 year old phone though but i don't use mine with the stock launcher or snapchat or any apps that are remotely high-cpu usage like facebook or games. i even have most google services disabled on mobile data. i just use it to browse the internet, text message people, browse 4chan, and remote desktop into my computer and for those things this phone is perfectly powerful enough and the button shortcuts make up for any lack of speed in the OS
@Cheesemonk3h4 жыл бұрын

I still have mine, it's a little neat phone. It's been retired for a while now and I am using an Fxtec Pro1 instead. Even when I am not using the PRIV as a daily driver anymore it doubles as a great video recording device. (it does great 1080p 60 fps and even can do 4k at 30fps) Honestly for its time it was very well equipped apart from that Snap 808.

Literally because of this particular video, I want this phone really bad. Such a fun form factor.

The carbon fibre is the BB10 era "Glass Weave". I guess it's a fibreglass. It's very transparent to RF waves and feels so good. (I loved the way it felt on my Q10)

I used Priv for few years. It was really wonderful device. If BB releases Priv 2 i'll preorder without doubt. I am now using newer Samsung Note 9 and i still missing my BB. BTW media consumption on that phone was really nice, front-facing speaker is good for 2015 phone, camera is not amazing, but with if you have good lightning conditions it can take nice picture. Only real issue that i had was phone overheating in summer, when it was hanging on my car windshield in holder when navigating using Google Maps.

Hiya Hugh, I did this very job 3 or 4 years ago. Yes they are a great phone, the screen is just amazing however the one thing that put me off is the weight. It really is a big old hefty phone and you definitely know it's in your pocket. I'm looking forward to your Key One video, I tried a number of times to buy one on eBay but Blackberry prices are strong in the UK and I just couldn't land one at my price. I also did a screen replacement on a Blackberry Classic, another good phone but pre Android.

Heavy? I think its a really good weight but thats me
@fredscratchet13554 жыл бұрын
Yes weird isn't it what suits one doesn't suit another. I use a OnePlus 5t right now (another rebuild) and that is nice and the weight is just about right for me.
@Zerbey3 жыл бұрын
Really? I didn't think it was all that heavy, the newer iPhones are much heavier. When I owned the phone it spent its days in my pocket with a OnePlus 3T and the latter was far bulkier. I'd rather have a bit of extra weight personally.

the reason the battery came out so easily is because the Priv gets so hot the glue is probably loose, it's good to know how easy it is to replace the battery, my Priv is damaged, it reboots whenever it wants, it started in february so i bought the KeyOne for my birthday, i would love to get the priv working again because despite it's flaws it's back camera is really good
@tonicipriani3 жыл бұрын
The random rebooting is likely caused by a stuck Google app update. Disable the auto-update and it shouldn't random reboot.
@ColinsCity3 жыл бұрын
@@tonicipriani you are completely correct, I only discovered this when I wiped the device to sell it

That wasn't plastic- it's an EMI shield and also incidentally helps provide thermal relief. If you reassembled the phone without it, it will run much hotter than it should.

It should be noted that you're not supposed to add too much thermal paste which seems counter-intuitive, but thermal paste isn't as conductive as bare metal and serves to fill in any microscopic gaps/unevenness between the surfaces rather than as a perfect thermal joint. This is assuming thermal pads are not being used, which would mean there's a large gap anyway.
