I got the R5 C at launch, coming from a 5D Mk3, but I've stuck with EF lenses. That allows me to use the filter adapter instead of screw on filters. One of the best cameras Canon has launched recently.

@Hugh, I gave myself almost all the same reasons as yourself with R5 and R5C! I suggest adding the Core SWX Powerbase Edge Link (don’t mix it up with the Lite or the older version). It is 70Wh version with the USBC and USBA. You can just connect the USBC port with the USBC cable to the R5C and shoot for awhile without worry about battery life. And if you buy two, it is hot swappable but one has been good enough for me. If you want to use dummy battery then you need to buy their proprietary dummy battery as the barrel port is not standard. Only bummer as I had a bunch around and couldn’t reuse them. I also have dummy d/p-taps but you need to be careful and have ones that down convert to 7.4V regulated. Otherwise you will fry your internals. Best is just use the USBC port. The PB Edge has a new wide QR (quick release) plate and I add a Neweer QR plate on top of it with a Smallrig wooden handle and I can take out of the tripod rig fast and go hand held immediately. Enjoy your R5C!

Brilliant video, Hugh. I've been looking for a real world review. I'm currently on the fence between the R5C and the C70.

Thanks man. Tough choice. The C70 is a much better production camera for bigger video jobs but if you're a pixel peeper like me and love photography then the R5C all day long.

Very nice! I've been really tempted to pick one up recently. I'm really tired of my R5 and R6 always overheating out here in New Mexico, lol. Plus I'm definitely down for those extra codecs and no record limits.

Hey Brent, great to hear from you. Yeah, I think you'd love the R5C. I think it's practically the best wildlife video camera available. You can shoot in RAW crop in 60fps which will be pretty epic.

I have The same camera. Im overwhelmed by the performance. Also use the anglebird 512gb cf express card. They are amazing. Super performance for 1 sixth of the price of other brands. Also feel a small irritation by canons desition to block third party lenses for rf mount, but at the same time if you use canons ef to rf adapter it’s perfect. I’m super impressed by the use of ef lenses on the r5c. I shoot with the old 24-105 l series f4 ef, the 17-40 f4. Ef And 70-200 rf 2.8.

Currently about to pull the trigger as well, trying to decide between a Z9 and an R5C. I use a Z6II and a Pocket 4K for my personal stuff, and a Canon 5D4 + Raven/C200 cinema combo for work, so I'm used to both systems, which makes it even trickier to decide 😅 one thing I really like is the cinema EOS menu on the R5C, and it also costs and weighs less than the Z9, which helps when travelling. And speaking of wildlife, having the pre-recording option is a godsend! I hope you enjoy this little beast and look forward to seeing more of your videos with it 👌
@HuFilms2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot Adrian. Wow, you've accumulated a lot of gear! The z9 with the new 800 lens would be great for wildlife. Otherwise, I can't compare as I've never shot Nikon. I'd love to though. Best of luck on your decision, just don't let the batterylife on the R5C destroy your soul!
@adrianvalentin2 жыл бұрын
@@HuFilms the Canon and RED gear isn't mine, but I'm fortunate to be able to use it every day :) as for the battery life on the R5C, I'm used to the Pocket 4k haha, it shouldn't be an issue. The Z9 seems like a solid camera and the lenses are just beautiful, that's why it's so damn hard to decide... All the best!

Is a great camera I bought th R5C and have been shooting a lot of Music videos with it, I am going to shoot documentary stuff with it too, when I was looking at cameras to what buy, the RF lenses system watched my eye, I thing is the best camera system to skip assistants, for documentary shots is probably the best camera for me.

I own the Sony A7iv and have tested the Canon R5c the last month or so. The R5c is an amazing camera for professionals who are mostly behind the camera. But for a person like me, who mostly films himself, the A7iv is much better. I have to main issues with the R5c: 1) suboptimal autofocus and 2) lack of wifi control in video mode. In the sony, both of these issues har outstanding, making self filming a much easier experience.
@HuFilms2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this camera is way to complex to just use for that type of work. Unless you want the RAW 8k and hybrid aspect, with it being an awesome photography camera on top of a cinema camera, then it's pointless getting it.
@caseybachmeyer2 жыл бұрын
cool video! But wouldnt be the c70 better for making films? 16 stops plus is the most important i guess when it comes to "cinematic" footage
@HuFilms2 жыл бұрын
Shooting RAW in the R5C will give you the same or close. The c70 is a crop sensor camera and I already have RF full frame glass so it'd be cropping in a lot. It would be a great camera for me but right now the R5C makes more sense for the type of stuff I'm doing.

@HuFilms2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about that. I would avoid dust if possible and maybe look into some sort of cover. That said, I used my R5 in dusty places a lot. But the r5c's fan could cause problems with dust.

Suppose the lack of built-in ND filters is a bit of a pain but you can’t have it all when it’s based on a hybrid. Nice bit of kit

If it wasn't also a photography camera, that's be a bigger deal. I don't mind having ND's as I like to protect the glass anyway.
