Love Love Love, thank you so much for putting this side by side with AE. I've been struggling with other tutorials on Nuke and end up being so confused, this was perfect. Don't apologize for the length, anyone who really appreciates the knowledge will watch no matter how long. Please keep this series coming, I feel that I am out growing AE because of the 32 float and having to use noise effect to remove banding etc. Project files to follow along would be cool! Thank you so much again.

Helped alot, to conclude: when you render in after effects you feel done and you don't get the feeling that you have total control over your vid. but for nuke, you feel like there is infinity options and that your ready to still make changes and that everything is now setup for you to do so. I am currently using after effects and have a few more things to learn in 3D compositing before I jump over to nuke as a main editing software, overall thnx for this vid, it was exactly the type of vid I was looking for. Have a great day

I normally watch vfx tutorials at 1.5 speed or 2x speed because the artist speaks way too slowly, repeats information too much, or generally just doesn't cut to the chase. None of these were the case with your video. Straight to the point, well-paced, and packed with a ton of useful information. Truly setting a new standard for tutorials on the internet. Happily subscribed.

Hi Hugo! First of all a big big thanks for your Videos, always very helpfull and inspirational. I'm also Portuguese and very very happy to see another Mate being sucessful. I'm a long time AE user and at about 6 months making the transition to Nuke. No doubt AT ALL about Nuke being much much better at compositing but still stuck with some projects with Element 3D Plugin for AE. Can you please advise if Nuke is also a good solution about importing Geometry, as well as with all the process of texturing, etc? Very sorry for the big text. Keep up the excelent work. Big Thanks in advance. bye
@HugosDesk7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your kind works. Obrigado. Nuke can import and run any geometry from OBJ to FBX to Alembic Caches so it is a great link with Maya or any 3D application. I would not advice rendering 3D in Nuke since there are much better 3D apps out there. But so you know you do have VRay and RenderMan for Nuke. Cheers and thanks for the support.

+Aron Durkin I did started but I have been so busy with payed work that I had to put it on hold. You know, as much as I love to make videos for you guys the problem is that You Tube pays so so little that when I have Director or VFX work I have to prioritise. I usually get about 2 or 3 dollars per video and that is if the video gets 5K views. So very difficult to make time for free content when I have work. Sorry about that. But it will come, don't worry. Thanks for the support anyway.

Great vid Hugo. I am wondering if you have any good tips on handling footage in AE in the way Nuke does? I am still using both for different shots and finding AE is not great at colour management for Alexa footage, and I'm don't seem to have a bulletproof solution for adding elements (sRGB or otherwise) and outputting a LogC file for the grade. Nuke handles this well and had no complaints from those shots. Slightly off topic question I know...maybe I just have to be better!
@mastaojo6 жыл бұрын
This may be a stupid question and i know the answer for movies and live action compositing, but why did you do the this project in Nuke or AE? Why not just render the final version with all the effects in 3D? And the longer your videos the better, i love to learn!
@HugosDesk6 жыл бұрын
Well you should never render directly from 3D because it’s very un-flexible in Post. Having a compositing stage means you can do minor tweak, colour corrections and add live action plates to the CG. It is a very common practice to have a CG and A Comp stage.

Really nice tutorial. I would like to know more about 3d passes in Nuke, how you connect all the render passes - AO, reflection, SSS etc. Also, I am wondering, because I think in perspective, to learn a software that later I can afford... is it hard to buy Nuke, do the VFX work can get me all the licenses I need because for example Fusion 9 is much cheaper...

+WildChickenTV really depends of what you are after. VFx companies have artists specialised in specific softwares. So a FX artist does not do Comp. a modeller does not do rendering, a matte painter does not do animation etc etc. If you work in a smaller company and you want to be a generalist then you will probably know a bit of everything. You know what I mean? Either a master of 1 task or master of none.
@MonsterZzzGamer7 жыл бұрын
i wanna be a generalist and make short stuff till i get a job in the vfx industry...
