What I really want to know is where to find a lightbox with perfectly even lighting across the surface. You can get an app for your phone that measures in lux and as you move it over the surface, the lux rating changes all over the place. Not a big deal if just tracing, but if you are scanning film negatives with a camera, that doesn't work. I haven't found info on evenness online, but the 2 different brands I tried both had a lot of variation. One $22, the other $100.
@SteveAtkinsonFineArt2 жыл бұрын
to scan my 120 and 35mm B&W film negatives I use the Essential Film Holder on a copy stand to get that extremely accurate focus on my Canon M50 mirrorless crop sensor camera. The light I use is the Viltrox L116T LED video light panel. It has a CRI of 95, which is what you want when you're using a camera set up to scan your negatives. Here is a link to what I use: amzn.to/3umpDjC

Love your KZbins. Back when I was airbrushing, before going digital, I built a 30 x30 light box in my adjustable drawing table. Taped Strathmore over my pencil and cut friskets on it without transferring a pencil. It saved a little time. Also built a cabinet at the back of the table with 2 360 cfm exhaust fans to pull the overspray outside. I was reped by Marietta Mason in the twin cities, I wonder if we ever bid against each other. Just retired last year from com art.

I have looked at these and would like to have the larger one. Here is my question, being a lefty too, why cant you use it upside down and then the switch would be away from you?? As a lefty we all have to make do and m a y b e that would help. I have a smaller light box that is a little thicker and has a wonderful case it slips into when not in use. I use it all the time and I dont think there is a problem using it. There was a time a drew an old model Chevy truck for a gift. No matter how hard I worked on it, it wasn’t right. I finally put it on the light box and with a piece of paper redrew over it and made the corrections. Next question, I need to do a little research on it, they used to make tape that had the measurements on it in inches. If we find a narrow one it could be added to the light box and removed if needed. Maybe Huion could include a roll in inches with the light box at very little cost to them and the consumer. Just a thought. Look forward to the second part..thanks for your time and the video.
@SteveAtkinsonFineArt5 жыл бұрын
Hi Essie! I can turn it upside down, but the button then is on the lower right side, just as in the way as in the upper left, maybe more so. Having it tucked into the upper right gets it out of the way. If it's on the lower right, you'll find that your right arm/hand brushes it easily! Great question though!!

I love my A4 Huion light pad & now want to buy an A3 size, for larger drawings. I live in Australia and we converted to the Decimal System way back in 1966, so everything is in 'centimetres'. Even though I was a 10 yr old kid then, I still think in inches/feet & how much I weigh in stone. Also, I'm right-handed. However, I hope Huion have addressed the issues you mention Steve, for you folks' sake.

Hi Steve.... I've seen these pads before on KZbin, they seem like the way of the future. In my traditional days I used an Artograph projector on a stand as most of my work was 24x36. My wall that I projected it on got pretty dirty over time as pencil and charcoal smudged around. But it worked for me. And yes, I built my own "Big Betty", but used incandescent bulbs with a sheet of white paper over clear glass, that got warm over time. As far as the lefty thing, how about just turning the tablet upside down, that will put the button on the lower right and since you don't use the scale, it won't be an issue. Your video has me thinking about asking Santa for one of these!
@SteveAtkinsonFineArt5 жыл бұрын
Hi John, it's always great to hear from you, being illustration bros.! I just recently let my Artograph go since I hadn't used it in probably 25 years???? Yikes, does that make me old or what! They were always such a pain since the image I could use had to be relatively small, so I avoided when I could and used copier machines to get to the size I needed. As far as rotating the pad, I tried it and, I don't know about you, but I use both arms when drawing and since the on/off button is then in the lower right, my forearm was constantly turning it off. Sigh... no biggie, but hopefully Huion will hear from more lefties than just me and come up with a solution, but if not, it's a small irritation to have such an awesome light pad. Thanks for watching buddy!

I've answered this about a dozen times. It's my fault for not mentioning this in the video. Can you not , as a left handed’ turn the pad upside down ?
@SteveAtkinsonFineArt2 жыл бұрын
Yes, of course I've done this... I thought, easy peasy, just turn it upside down and problem solved. Not so fast! This actually puts the button on the lower right, so that when I use my right hand to hold down the paper or move it around, my hand always brushes the button, and off it goes. This button only takes a light touch to operate. If it were a click type button it'd be a different story. Thanks for watching Elisabeth!
@Whiterabbitdigital3 жыл бұрын
Why not just turn the tablet around entirely so the button is on the bottom right and your left hand doesn't accidentally switch it off? 🤔
@SteveAtkinsonFineArt3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kenneth, I've gotten this question quite a few times now, lol. Unfortunately, that's an even worse position as my other arm brushes it since I move the tablet around as I'm drawing, or holding down the paper, or lightly wiping the excess graphite/charcoal dust off the surface. So there is no good place to have the button on the surface of the pad ( unless it were on the upper right top, but that'd make a whole lotta righties unhappy). 😡

In fact, after the next video where I finish the drawing I started in this video, I'm going to put a video up on my channel explaining that I'm going to be mostly absent for the next 6 months. Right now I'm working on the 3rd western book cover painting in a series of 5 I've contracted to do. I'm doing the Prescott Frontier Days Rodeo poster this year. I have a one-person show at my gallery in Jackson Hole the second week of June, and my other gallery in Utah has sold almost everything they have of mine and are pressuring me for new large paintings. That's in addition to the commissions and other shows I'm contracted to do.... so, yep, I'm busier than a mosquito at a nudist colony! I ain't complaining, but jeesh ;0)
