I actually have just gotten into animating traditionally. I have digital art programs, but I feel like the confines of traditional paper and pencil will actually make me work faster. Digital art tends to encourage perfectionism with the ability to undo anything. I plan on doing most of the keyframe animation traditionally before scanning in and coloring digitally. My only question is this: Is it even possible to lip-sync when animating traditionally???
@CrownePrince6 жыл бұрын
It's possible. In the past animators used to make sound charts on a thing called an X-sheet to do it. Plus lots of pencil tests, of course.

Thanks for this video! Bought it and love it! I'm just starting to get into animation and I prefer the older traditional style of animation much more than CGI and super clean digital animation. The rough style used in the Jungle Book, Robin Hood, and Winnie the Pooh is my absolute favorite! I also like the look of cartoons in the '20s! So I appreciate this video! Also, don't get me wrong, I still love all types of animation CGI and computer-animated work still look lovely! Like in DuckTales 2017 and Tangled! Just wanted to clarify that. ;) I just want to experiment with traditional because while it's more time-consuming, the result is really pretty! Also, I need to learn how to scan photos in because there's no way I'm coloring each one by hand! XD

Being a traditional artist... makes me want to switch to digital XD Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy drawing no matter what I’m drawing on, paper, tablet, flesh, walls... maybe not the last two but whatever! It’s nice to know this exists, but I think I’ll end up getting a tablet. Thanks for making this though, maybe in the future there’ll be some crazy animator who wants to draw traditionally 🤣

Thanks for review. Just ordered for my daughter. Why do red and blue pencils help? Is there a certain kind to get for an aspiring animator?
@alexleg336 жыл бұрын
I think blue is for draft and red is for background (black is for final) At least it is how is it in the software I use.
@CrownePrince6 жыл бұрын
It can be cheap Crayola pencils: brand doesn't matter. Using different colors for each drawing helps because when you turn the light on, you can see the separate drawings based on color. If you use only black, it can be hard to tell what is part of which drawing since you see all of them at once.

I just wish it was more portable rather than having to connect it to a power outlet, in case you work station wasn't close to one, such as having some sort of battery pack attachment. I suppose you could just plug the device straight into a portable charger though, but it would be cool it was already custom and included with the device.
@RailRide6 жыл бұрын
That's what I do when I need to use mine (an Aiptek) at artist-alley events where wall outlets aren't available. I have a spare 7000MaH USB charger battery (demoted since I got a 20,000 MaH one) that I plug it into for power.

Oh my, I have been looking for a good light box to use. As I strongly prefer doing traditional sketching to digital. Not that I dislike it, I just feel more creative and comfortable with paper and pencil. I do have to ask though. Would that class package you offer work for someone like me who likes traditional sketching? I mean I am totally fine with learning how to sketch and animate in a digital setting. I am just curious if the skills taught in your class, can be applied to traditional sketching and animation. Anyways, keep up the awesome work. You're awesome, and have awesome artwork.
@CrownePrince6 жыл бұрын
No no, the class is purely technical for using Adobe Animate. It's not an animation technique class, so it wouldn't be useful for you.

I got hired for two really big projects so it got delayed yet again. I'm thinking August. I don't want to cut too many corners on #100 so I'd rather push the date back over and over if I have to. Even though a lot of the shots are done, the rather insane ending will take a while to put together because there are a lot of individual pieces of art involved.

@teavu60936 жыл бұрын
JemiLee DaBear Back in the 90's they used programs to combine traditional animation with digital effects. If you wanna go farther back (little mermaid in before) they hand animated all the cells before taking pictures of them using a special camera set up. If you get the chance, I recommend going to the Disney museum In San Francisco, where they highlight some of Walt Disney's early work along with the GIANT multi-plane cameras used to perceive depth. It's a fascinating walk

So, you made an interview on an animation called, “Double King” and the review was great, but you should also check out other content by Felix Colgrave because each one provides a different atmosphere; wether it be charming and ridiculous, to strange and disturbing, Felix has a lot of content on his channel. You should really check out some of his work, and maybe talk about how every animation uses a different tool in adobe flash?
