I followed your link on your review on amazon for this product which made me want to get this in the first place as I use 2 varying types of paper, and I wasn't sure if it would be able to see through say of the ones I use. For two sheets of paper that thick, your light pad does a good job. I have a big, free-standing light table, and I doubt that would do a better job. _BTW: Your music is too loud._ ;)

My girlfriend loves to draw in photoshop and the likes, and the current drawing tablet she has isn't very good. Do you think this would make a good gift? I don't know too much about these sort of things.

Oh, this is a lightbox tablet, so technically it's not a pen/digital tablet. For that, I highly recommend the wacom intuos: www.wacom.com/en-us/products/pen-tablets/intuos-draw I have an older version of the wacom tablets and they last YEARS. I've had mine for 6 years now and it's still going fine :). The intuos draw is the cheapest one simply due to the fact that it doesn't come with all that fancy software (it still comes with software though, just not the fanciest). If your gf already has software, then she probably won't need all that extra junk they give you in the more expensive bundles.
