This is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen! I can't stop watching it. It's so beautiful and mesmerizing; I could watch it all day! It's crazy how easy they make it look. Getting low to the ground and back up while still having their voices ring clear? They're so strong!

I’ve been watching these and think it’s absolutely WONDERFUL they have the late queens picture in frame. To have her there for the living and breathing practices of her people that she caught so hard not to lose to the white man. ❤️

Yes! I danced with Kumu Kunewa Mook and he was very strict with our hair. We had to let it grow out and not cut it ever. Then before competition, he would cut our hair all together so we had all the same exact length.

A beautiful example of ‘ili’ili hula. I like the slow tempo of the mele , accented by the clicking of the stones. The dancers are extraordinary.

It hurts my soul that the British saw Hawaiians and thought "let's colonize them and steal their land!" Instead of working in partnership with a Hufflepuff like Nation they ruined it. If I was sailing the "New To ME World" and met the Hawaiians, it'd be nice to chill and say "ok, seeya same time next year, bye." I wouldn't COLONIZER them. The audacity. Glad their traditions survived, as the UK did a number on them, their resources and their islands.

You would have to have very strong knees to do this I think. Just thinking about doing the move where they lay all the way back with their knees in kneeling position makes me hurt! Mad kudos to all these folks who dance so beautifully. I'm almost certain many of them are dancing with a bit of pain in their knees. But they sure don't let it stop them.
