There's a difference between understanding and forgiving. We've come to understand what led to what happened with Chris Benoit, and yes, it is unfortunate. However, there is no forgiveness to what he did. The only conversation/debate I've heard that could even remotely seem like there has been forgiveness is the HOF stuff where people are arguing to separate the performer from the person. However, the likelihood it will ever happen is about as likely as Hogan ever telling a true story.

Benoit is in my top 5 wrestlers of all time and many of his matches rank among my favourites; Rumble 03 vs Angle, the Mania 20 triple threat, tag title match at No Mercy 02 among others. Some people are unable to but I do feel fortunate that I’m able to separate the art from the artist and enjoy those matches in a vacuum without thinking about what he ultimately ended up doing as they’re truly some of the greatest matches of all time. That being said, he’ll never be forgiven by 99% of the wrestling community (me included) nor will he ever end up in the HoF and rightfully so. Paul Heyman said it best in his Inside the Ropes interview…

I'm going to put it out there about this Chris Benoit thing. None of us fans knew Chris Benoit, Nancy or their son personality, it's not up to us fans to forgive or not forgive. For whatever the reasons that led to what happened happening, it's a tragedy. Yes, feel bad for what happened, it's incredibly sad. But no fan has any right to be in the power to forgive. If the local news reports a man or woman killing their kids, is it any right of yours to grant forgiveness? Absolutely not.

Look, Chris Benoit should be in the wrestling hall of fame! Yes Hogan, everyone, we all know what happened outside the ring was messed up. But that is what happens when you are on those roids! makes you do things you regret. But Benoit in the ring, the dude was one of the best! very underrated! so anyone say he does not belong in wrestling hall of fame, they never watched him wrestle when he was alive like I did and well loved in the locker room.

Didn't Heyman get some heat for saying something against Benoit when people said he had CTE?
@TheRealDustinNunn2 ай бұрын
I forgive and understand that Chris Benoit's brain was very badly messed up because of the CTE disease that Benoit had in his brain, but I will never forgive what Benoit did to his second wife, Nancy and their 7-year-old son, Daniel. What Benoit did to Nancy and Daniel was wrong and inexcusable. R.I.P. Nancy and Daniel.

I've been a wrestling fan for 50+ yrs. I have forgiven what Benoit did because it wasn't him. Now hear me out... I say it wasn't him because I believe the doctors and science. Suffering from as many concussions as Benoit did, it (in laymen terms) turned his his brain to mush. There is no way he is responsible for what happened. YES, it was a tragedy and YES, it could have been avoided (had someone, anyone noticed the cognitive decline sooner).
@chrisfrazier55062 ай бұрын
Yeah, I'm a massive fan of Benoit's in- ring work. His matches were nothing less than works of art to me. WrestleMania XX was my favorite for ages because Eddie and Chris got to share the ring as champions, specifically. For years, I thought there was tragedy that the concussions he got from doing this thing we loved caused that tragedy, until New evidence told me it wasn't just the brain degeneration. Even though I felt we shared some of the burden of responsibility for that, hell because of that, I have never forgiven Benoit. Anyone who has had their head way too far up their ass.
@devinsawyer982 ай бұрын
I could see where Hogan's comment comes from. For years, wrestling channels just about blacklisted Benoit from being mentioned. Now, channels don't dance around mentioning Benoit. Hogan could've mistaken this for forgiveness. Thus the comment.

I want Benoit in the HOF. I don’t forgive him for what he did but in this day in era they would call it he had a mental health problem and possibly CTE but that was something that wasn’t known at the time or even studied. I repeat I don’t condone what he did but as a wrestler and character he deserves to be recognized.

No one forgives Benoit, we just separate the character from the real person
@hectic1052 ай бұрын
Most people agree that he was an incredible worker (I was a big fan back then, before all that), but most also agree that he was an absolute monster and that that is more important than whatever work he did in the ring. There’s a section of fans that are too willing to allow CTE to free him from any responsibility at all and want him in the hall of fame, but that is by no stretch, a majority. That is definitely a minority. It’s important to acknowledge CTE and prevent it from happening, but it is not a get-out-of-jail-free card like what those particular fans really want it to be.
