Hulk’s decision to turn heel and be the 3rd man for the nWo was absolutely the right course of action. He was once again one of the hottest stars in wrestling and it kicked off a boom period not just for WCW, but for professional wrestling in general because NOTHING gets Vince McMahon into high gear quite like beating him at his own game.

The only other decision that would have worked, is if HBK or Bret hart left wwf and joined the outsiders. The choice to fall back on Sting would have failed. He was too over as a wcw guy and a baby face.

@Nich Hodge Dennis Rodman alias Rod-zilla was an eccentric basketball star known for his almost Ru-Paul style garish outfits & outlandish antics. He rivaled Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Shaq & other faces of the half-court of his era, much like infamous late 80's boxing icon, walking Punch-Out! home console port endorsement, early 90's convicted rapist & questionable WWE Hall of Fame Celebrity inductee "Iron" Mike Tyson did by gnawing on fellow boxer Evander Hollyfield's ear.

That was fine....assuming the logical happend. Sting beats hogan CLEAN 1.2.3. or tap out at starcade 97. Either way its clean. Hogan goes away for awhile (at least 6 months) nWo is in disarray. The faction splinters and never recovers to full strength. The problem was Sting's 18 month journey that culminated in "victory" meant nothing as the nWo kept chugging along. @Biffo316 5 жыл бұрын
You really have to admire the sheer balls of hogan to ask for all those bonuses in his contracts. I just can't fathom the kind of money he made in the 4 or 5 years he was in wcw. The money wcw must have been making in order to pay him and everyone else massive money and still turn an enormous profit must have been out of this world. Then they go ahead and start throwing money at basketball players and nfl players. When you dig into it even a little it's on a whole other level than any of us realise.

one of the all time iconic great moments of Hollywood Hogan was NWO at its peak and Hogan at his slimiest but coolest. Hogan does the old classic Heel maneuver where he tries to get the ref to believe that the face was cheating by grabbing his hair and yanking him. Hogan goes to the audience for approval, and the crowd goes wild in agreeing with Heel Hogan. Never had that happened before.

Of course he did. He borrowed a lot from the formula Nitro was using to beat the WWF during that time period. He clung on to the comic style of the 80s and early 90s for a long time before he smartened up and realized that people wanted to watch a product geared towards a more "mature" audience. Bischoff was doing the heel authority figure long before McMahon decided to take that role for himself (and did it better, even though Bischoff was a great smarmy heel).

Every WWE mark will disagree but Hulk joining The Outsiders to form the NWO took wrestling to a whole new level. Before that if you were in your late teens early 20s and said you were a fan you would be laughed at. Then Hulk turns the NWO becomes huge WCW goes on a run that no other wrestling promotion has even come close to since the WWF expansion in 1984. Hulk ushered in 2 of the most profitable times in pro wrestling history. Then came back to WWE and had another classic WrestleMania match with The Rock

LOVED the intro! Crazy to think like you said that if Hogan no showed, Sting would have been the nWo front man. I never knew that about Hogan (although I shouldn't be surprised), that he worked all of his obligated matches first of the year. I always thought by him not wrestling on Nitro, Thunder, Etc. it was his way of building himself up, that he was the man in charge now and only he decided when he would defend the title. Seriously had no clue that wasn't the case at all. Another great video. Thank you.

Honestly thought that Bobby’s call actually hurt the heel turn. I’ve seen footage where Bobby’s call is actually muted out. But I have come to understand how a call like that at Bash at the Beach was so consistent with the disdain that The Brain had (in the commentary booth) for The Hulkster since the mid ‘80s.

@@richeandujar agree in a sense. He's hated Hogan since Andre at Wrestlemania. That said, he should left it open ended as opposed to giving the call of who's side is he on. He should've said the calvary is here or something like that

HereIsWisdom 1318 Sting being the third man would not of had the same impact. It would’ve been a shocker no doubt but it would not of made the same waves. It would’ve been a hell of a swerve though considering that he had just fought these guys for several minutes prior.

One thing that always bothered me about the backstage news of Bash at The Beach, that if Hogan didn't show he would send out Sting, Sting was already out there in the match against Hall and Nash, it would've been confusing as hell if Sting turned on Lex Luger and Macho Man in the last bit of the match

To this day I am glad that Hulk turned out to be the mystery partner. If it had been anybody else, the whole NWO would have been fed to the Hulkster and nothing good would have had happened. I am convinced, that it would have ended up like the Nexus. Also, watching the "reliving the war" on the BEST wrestling channel there is, judging by the reaction Hogan got, him joining the Outsiders was the right thing to do. So thank you for the awesome content and please, keep up the good work! That being said, Bret really should have taken the money. At least he would have spared himself of Montreal 😒

Can you do one about Roddy Piper's time in the NWO? That's would be a great story for the fans. Hogan was popular for many years but Piper was popular for being brash, honest and he loved his fans. Plus he did it to take care of his family. He was a champion without a title. RIP Roddy Piper. Love you always!

When discussing the ATG of wrestling (Hogan vs Austin), the haters always conveniently leave out the NWO/Hollywood Hogan era. Austin was a beast for about 5 or 6 years, but Hogan was the man for over 20 years. Even when he returned to wwe... fans cheered for Hogan over the Rock. That's why Austin never wanted to wrestle him
