Dude, SO worth it. This just became my SI, it's basically like... kabuki? Morality fables? It's like mythology kind of. I like how they explain the emotions/expressions of the wrestlers as the story goes on, and narrate all the plot elements; it's v accessible for me as an autistic person.

Lawyer here: I haven't looked into this case, but here's what I assume happened to get it back to Florida state court. In the US we have a federal system, meaning we have states and the Federal government. Each state has their own court system and there is also a Federal Court system. The Supreme Court is the top of the Federal system and can also, sometimes, review decisions from the highest court in a state. When you file a lawsuit, you have to file it in the correct court system. In other words, the court with jurisdiction over the matter. State courts generally have jurisdiction over events and disputes in their state. Also federal courts are courts of "limited jurisdiction" meaning they can only hear cases that meet their jurisdictional requirements, which are set by law. If you file a lawsuit on a federal court without meeting these requirements, the court has no choice but to either transfer the case to state court or dismiss it so you can refile in state court. However, there are a few ways to get into federal court. The main two, in my experience, are federal question jurisdiction and diversity jurisdiction. Federal question jurisdiction essentially means you are suing under a federal law. Diversity jurisdiction is a bit more complicated, but the following is a much simplified explamation. Diversity jurisdiction has two requirements. First, the dispute has to be worth at least $75,000. In today's society, that's pretty easy. The second requirement is that all parties must be residents of different states. The idea behind diversity jurisdiction is that if you live in State A and you sue someone who lives in State B in a State A state court, you have the advantage. So the person in State B can remove the case to federal court. (The federal court will then determine which states' laws apply.) For jurisdictional purposes, companies are generally considered residents of any state they do business in. So what I assume happened here is that Hogan, a Florida resident, sued someone from another state in federal court under diversity jurisdiction. But then wanted to proceed in Florida state court. To do so, he has to destroy diversity of citizenship. In other words, he had to add another Florida resident to the case. So he added Gawker who I assume the court considered a resident of Florida. At that point, the federal court would have no choice but to move the case to state court because the federal court no longer had jurisdiction. I hope that makes sense. As I said, this is just my assumption of what happened. And again, this is the simple explanation (I know it's still complicated, but they literally offer multiple law school classes just on jurisdiction) so theres more nuance to this as well.

EXTREMELY minor nitpick: Anthony Bowens was not at all in the closet in 2023. The joke is that Harley Cameron had been delusionally pursuing him for a couple of weeks despite everyone telling her it was a waste of time and she was being ridiculous... because he's so obviously gay. That said, totally understandable use of the clip from an editing and narrative standpoint. It's very clear and concise for the point being made.
@averyeml

I guarantee there were some truly sheltered and/or clueless folks that either didn’t notice until he flat out said it, or assumed they were just making “gay jokes” at his expense until then. I haven’t seen it with him specifically but I did see it when my dad watched the entirety of the VERY queer show Our Flag Means Death with me and didn’t realize any of the gay stuff was actual gay stuff until the romantic drama of the last two episodes of the first season. He apparently thought all the queer stuff from across all the other episodes were “jokes” despite not being played for laughs in that way?

1) I didn't get any notifications about the premeir last night! 2) Thank you for illuminating a childhood query. (Xennial here) In the 80's early 90's my dad hated wrestling. He would yell about it being fake. My brothers had to watch it in secret, so I did not get into until i met my husband in '98. I became hooked, but i always wondered why my dad was so annoyed it was fake. Now i think I know: In '98 wwe/f had embraced the camp and broke the 4th wall. But 10 years earlier it was keeping the fakeness a secret. That would have annoyed me too. 3) Who tf would think Stone Cold and Dave are our liberal wrestling allies?! Lol. The book of Austin said so! 4) Mick Foley lives near me! I saw him at Stony Brook Hospital while i was visiting my brother. He was in a visitors lounge on the same floor. Holy crap, that dude is freaking HUGE (spoken in 5'11" tall).

Hey. Jenn @FundieFridays I started watching your KZbin content during lockdown in Ireland and (1) you kept me sane and entertained and also (2) you helped me realise I was in an abusive relationship and gave me the strength to leave. My current partner loves wrestling so it’s really cool to have this crossover episode! I’m not a fan of Cody Rhodes but his politics seem pretty progressive and also big shouts out to Iio Sky, Rhea Ripley, Bianca and Bailey who are all flippin’ class!

You should try to see when the Fundie Fridays domain was registered. It usually lapses after a set period, and the squatter may forget and let it go so you could grab it. Could be at the year mark, could be 2 or 3.

Rev. Jen’s acting in the Bellesa ad was so hilarious. She is on point with the wrestling interviewer facial expressions.

Not a wrestling fan in the slightest. Only know it vaguely through my brother, but I was deeply enthralled for 3.5 hours while at work. Thank you for this.

As someone who was the right age demographic for the WWF cartoon that was on back in the 80s, I can't overstate how big a deal pro wrestling was with kids then. I even watched some episodes and knew who the characters were and I was not into wrestling at all (though I was a casual Andre the Giant fan just because of The Princess Bride). There were action figures, lunchboxes, so much merch. Can confirm that all of it was definitely aimed at young school-aged kids, boys particularly.

James, this was an absolutely amazing video. I am also a long time fan of wrestling who also grew up watching the Stone Cold era. How you spoke about wrestling is how I feel and it was just great to see your passion. I would love more wrestling videos from you if you ever care to do more. 💖
