Dude, SO worth it. This just became my SI, it's basically like... kabuki? Morality fables? It's like mythology kind of. I like how they explain the emotions/expressions of the wrestlers as the story goes on, and narrate all the plot elements; it's v accessible for me as an autistic person.

EXTREMELY minor nitpick: Anthony Bowens was not at all in the closet in 2023. The joke is that Harley Cameron had been delusionally pursuing him for a couple of weeks despite everyone telling her it was a waste of time and she was being ridiculous... because he's so obviously gay. That said, totally understandable use of the clip from an editing and narrative standpoint. It's very clear and concise for the point being made.

Lawyer here: I haven't looked into this case, but here's what I assume happened to get it back to Florida state court. In the US we have a federal system, meaning we have states and the Federal government. Each state has their own court system and there is also a Federal Court system. The Supreme Court is the top of the Federal system and can also, sometimes, review decisions from the highest court in a state. When you file a lawsuit, you have to file it in the correct court system. In other words, the court with jurisdiction over the matter. State courts generally have jurisdiction over events and disputes in their state. Also federal courts are courts of "limited jurisdiction" meaning they can only hear cases that meet their jurisdictional requirements, which are set by law. If you file a lawsuit on a federal court without meeting these requirements, the court has no choice but to either transfer the case to state court or dismiss it so you can refile in state court. However, there are a few ways to get into federal court. The main two, in my experience, are federal question jurisdiction and diversity jurisdiction. Federal question jurisdiction essentially means you are suing under a federal law. Diversity jurisdiction is a bit more complicated, but the following is a much simplified explamation. Diversity jurisdiction has two requirements. First, the dispute has to be worth at least $75,000. In today's society, that's pretty easy. The second requirement is that all parties must be residents of different states. The idea behind diversity jurisdiction is that if you live in State A and you sue someone who lives in State B in a State A state court, you have the advantage. So the person in State B can remove the case to federal court. (The federal court will then determine which states' laws apply.) For jurisdictional purposes, companies are generally considered residents of any state they do business in. So what I assume happened here is that Hogan, a Florida resident, sued someone from another state in federal court under diversity jurisdiction. But then wanted to proceed in Florida state court. To do so, he has to destroy diversity of citizenship. In other words, he had to add another Florida resident to the case. So he added Gawker who I assume the court considered a resident of Florida. At that point, the federal court would have no choice but to move the case to state court because the federal court no longer had jurisdiction. I hope that makes sense. As I said, this is just my assumption of what happened. And again, this is the simple explanation (I know it's still complicated, but they literally offer multiple law school classes just on jurisdiction) so theres more nuance to this as well.

1) I didn't get any notifications about the premeir last night! 2) Thank you for illuminating a childhood query. (Xennial here) In the 80's early 90's my dad hated wrestling. He would yell about it being fake. My brothers had to watch it in secret, so I did not get into until i met my husband in '98. I became hooked, but i always wondered why my dad was so annoyed it was fake. Now i think I know: In '98 wwe/f had embraced the camp and broke the 4th wall. But 10 years earlier it was keeping the fakeness a secret. That would have annoyed me too. 3) Who tf would think Stone Cold and Dave are our liberal wrestling allies?! Lol. The book of Austin said so! 4) Mick Foley lives near me! I saw him at Stony Brook Hospital while i was visiting my brother. He was in a visitors lounge on the same floor. Holy crap, that dude is freaking HUGE (spoken in 5'11" tall).

Oooh, I was waiting for this one! Most of my wrestling viewership was the late 90s & most of the 2000s, but it still holds a special place in my heart. Hearing you spin your favorite special interest w/ what's typical for the channel is such a juicy topic. We need the entertainment, bud.

I'm looking forward to this. (I wonder if King James caught the fact that Hulk Hogan's newest wife is a Scientologist? 🤔)

As another big wrestling nerd, I’m happy to see you tear into Hulk Hogan. Hope you get to do the same with Undertaker and Kane

I grew up in Portland, Oregon, and because Portland Wrestling was a big thing, I needed this episode. Many of the greats started out there. We went every Saturday night. I was very disappointed in Hulk Hogan. My favorite heel was Rowdy Roddy Piper. He was very nice in real life. Another really nice wrestler was Billy Jack Haynes. He was really funny too. He's in jail waiting for his trial to start for killing his wife last year, but I have fond memories of him from when I was a child.

Thank you for pouring so much of yourself into this episode! I was riveted. Idgaf about wrestling, but watching you passionately explain this and describe the highs and lows was a delight. And your conclusion speech! I cried. This video helped me stay brave.

I'm only about halfway through at the time of this comment but omg, that Right Guard ad lmaoooooo I'm absolutely deceased. And omg James I know nothing about wrestling but your excitement to talk about wrestling is so wholesome.

He never broke into mainstream pop culture? I feel like he definitely did in Australia in the 90s. Maybe because he was big around the same time as Paul Hogan and Crocodile Dundee so perhaps it was the name association kicking in 😅

i feel like this is a very specific niche of 90s/00s australian culture. like i personally do not watch or know much about wrestling but even when i was a kid i feel like i could name quite a few famous wrestlers despite never watching a single match.

Batista's video was so good. Just to the point: Donald only cares about himself and you want him running the country? Horrible idea. Not surprised that Hulk has aligned himself with Trump. They are so similar in that they will say whatever they need to grift others.
