Given the crowed field back in 1965 with singers and bands in America it was just hard to get any kind of airplay. But there was an audience elsewhere.

@@MyEnzo1960 Yes, I was playing with a Merseyside band in Rome from 1967 and we used to see them at the Piper club where we also used to play and they were very friendly with us. Bei tempi!

So the guy who sang that awesome song Django was a Black guy huh? I loved the song the first time I heard it. That voice intrigued me.

Was that at The Paul Anka night show? I heard Rockie Roberts and the Airedales for the first time in 1998 on CKUT FM Montreal. I was just 30 then. This song had been recorded in a studio around 64-65. But i already feel old at 50 today Lol

-Didn't get famous in America, but it worked in Italy. Get it when & where you can. He wasn't bad, better than some others, & back then as now, people were trying for that shot to fame.

I feel rocky roberts didn't get the credit he obviously deserves in America! They made some form of movie about everyone else but this guy is pretty much a big deal first black man to introduce soul to Italy and other places in Europe. He deserves to be known.

If you look at it Rocky Roberts was more like Jackie Wilson than James Brown.

well, you are quite right, I didnt know Jakie, but I watched him now, and Rocky Roberts took some moves from him, like the one he falls with the open knees to the ground.
